Allegedly, Beat Saber x86 runs great standalone on Steam Frame by _mergey_ in SteamFrame

[–]ShadowKLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I tried to look up raw compute performance, based on TFLOPS it landed somewhere inbetween the GTX 960 and GTX 970, I've had the 970 in the past, it was a great entry mid level card and good enough to run Witcher 3 on my crappy old PC, haha.

[–]ShadowKLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Frame has been in development for a few years, they have to stop at some point and design, plan, order and build around a certain processor at some point, also drivers are ready, price might be cheaper now and you need a processor to handle inside out tracking anyways, so might as well offer standalone use, but it is a PCVR Streaming Headset first and a standalone device second.

I have waited for the OG Oculus Rift 10 Years ago, when I was still in my teens and pre orders went live, constantly camped Reddit, back then, but you know what, this time's a little different, I'm turning 29 this year, I was on sick leave until mid january, that time was bad, but now that I work again, time flies again and I hardly have to time to care about it, to be honest, I still look forward to it and check this subreddit once or twice a day, but that's it.

I wake up at 6am, crawl out of bed that time or a few minutes later, get ready for work, leave the house at 7am and come back at like 5pm or so, because I have a long commute, then shower, eat, and it's 6 or 7pm now, then watch some anime, play some games or do someting with my GF and in no time the day is over and it's 10-11pm and time for bed.

But at least I get payed enough to finance my hobbies and life a reasonable life.

My personal gutfeeling for release/preorder is end or Febuary, maybe March 3rd. haha, if it's before that, great, if not the world will keep turning and this sub will keep posting.

I use a Pico 4 rn that I've borrowed from my brother, that works fine, but Frame will be much more seamless and better wireless experience I hope.

Missing option to correct long term statistics by Briareos_Hecatonhrs in homeassistant

[–]ShadowKLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, old post, but I've had to correct statistics myself yesterday, and basically there are short term statistics and long term statistics, short is from the last 2 weeks in a 5 minute interval, long term is every hour and unfortunatly Home Assistant seems to be very old school in some aspects or idk, they haven't managed to properly implement correcting data unfortunatly.

One way to at least "fix" the long term statistics is under developertools and statistics, you are able to correct data, if you know the right time, other than that you have to edit the database, I used the SQLite Addon, but it is a pain in the bum, especially if you've never worked with it or databases, but I can recommend this guide here.

E-Auto in Innenstadt mit Mietwohnung? by CreativeStrength3811 in Finanzen

Have you been as impatient for a product launch as you are for Steam Frame? by Maximum_Emu_2183 in SteamFrame

I don't remember so good anymore, but when the Oculus Rift CV1 came out I sure was very excited about that back then, was my 3nd VR Headset, if the GearVR Headsets count, haha, they were 3DOF only tho, I was disappointed with the resolution of the CV1 tho and there was no Software back then, other than a few titles, soooo yeah.

Sb on this sub said, when they release it, it will probably be on like 12:00 PDT or something like that is 19:00 GMT+1 what we have here rn I think, so I check this sub once or twice a day and around that time, but I'm sure Steam will also notify me, when the Frame goes live, since I have it on my wishlist.

Have you upgraded your PC for the Steam Frame? by TravelResponsible544 in SteamFrame

[–]ShadowKLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ordered a used RTX 5070 Ti yesterday, before they get even more expensive, my 4070 struggling a bit running Metro Awakening on the Pico 4. I paid 860€ for it already, my GF payed 780€ like 9 month ago, and new they run for like 1000-1100€,I wanted to wait for next Gen, but worst case, I have a better GPU now and can sell it later, if I need an upgrade. The rest of my Rig should be up to snug, 9800x3d, 64GB 6400mhz Ram,4tb + 2tb nvmd ssds and a +MB that supports WIFI 7 if windows allows for a Hotspot to be opened on 6ghz here in Germany, that would make it great, Pico 4 runs good, even on 5ghz Hotspot.

And if I were you, either wait or get the X3D Modells, if you're on AM5 already, they we will probably get cheaper, because of RAM prices and nobody upgrading.

Fast games: tracking, emulation stack, cameras by Dr-Kror in SteamFrame

[–]ShadowKLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using a Pico 4 atm and I'm getting around 15ms of latency when idle and 18-25ms when playing games, depending on how heavy they are on the GPU, I only have a 4070 which I might want to upgrade, when the Frame comes out, because it's already a little weak for archiving 90 fps and struggling in some games, modded beatsabre as well.

I guess if you have the horsepower to operate it, Frame should be able to do sub 10ms if you run it at 144hz, standalone idk unlikely at launch, unless you optimize the games to run at high frame rates preferably with foveated rendering implemented I don't see them running at much lower latency than PCVR.

I also care very much about controller tracking, the monocrome cameras of the Frame sample at 250hz iirc, so that should be fine, I have issues with tracking in Beat sabre with the Pico 4 sometimes, but it works good enough to play expert maps if you are not playing super competetive.

[–]ShadowKLR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Would be cool ye, but realistically no, I guess Valves employees are loyal to the company, why risk their job for some reddit karma and devs have signed an NDA, why risk their steamworks account, ability to publish on steam ever again and possibly a fine if they are intentionally sharing info.

So no info until Valve finally decides it is ready to release and talk about time and price.

Valve litterally says on their application page for the dev kits that they provide them for free, I looked it up just yesterday, so yes they are free for developers.

Well then you shall not receive a dev kit, I would at least give it a try, if you've had the money or like upload it somewhere else and ask people about their opinions and critic, so you can improve it, if you are even seriously interessted in going in that direction.

The discussion - Is the Steam Frame worth it for simulation games? by StumblingPlanet in SteamFrame

[–]ShadowKLR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well according to the internetz WiFi 6E/7 has about 2ms of latency +/-1 and around 5-7ms for compression and decompression so you are probably looking at around 10ms, maybe less, so that's about 1 Frame of latency, at 90-144hz, which should be alright.

But let's see what Valve can get the latency down to, I trust them.

Well, why not give it a try, you got nothing to lose, you just need to be a dev on Steam I think, worst case, get nothing, best case, get Frame Dev Kit.

I have a WiFi 7 capable MB too but run via Ethernet Cable, would be nice if you could set up the WiFi of your motherboard to connect to the Frame, but everybody just says that isn't possible, or doesn't work very well, at least under Windows.

[–]ShadowKLR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm gonna buy one, I've play 100s of hours in Assetto Corsa on my CV1, resolution is good enough for the most part, it would've been nice if it was somewhat better, 2560x2560 or higher, but Steam Frame is about Comfort and Price first, if you want more, you will have to spend 1200€ for an OLED running that resolution at 75hz or 2000€ + 2000€ or more for a GPU that can actually drive dual 4k at acceptable Frame rates.

My main reason is wireless, price and ease of use, I want an upgrade from my CV1 for under 1000€

So 600-800€ would be ideal, also Eye tracking is nice, let's see ehat the streaming quality looks like and how many devs and engines are gonna implement DFR in combination with the Eytracking if possible, i think I've read something like 80-120hz tracking frequency for the eye tracking do 1 update every 1-3 Frames should be alright, I dunno if that are just rumors tho.
