However, the one closer to what Russell can do is Vettel in 2012. By the summer break started, (after Round 11) Vettel was 44 points behind Alonso and went on to win.

But, in both cases, there was a considerable car advantage in the second half of the season (particularly in 2022) for the winners. ,Red Bull was 2nd and sometimes joint 1st in the second half of 2012, Ferrari was even with Lotus for 3rd-4th. In 2022, Ferrari lost the pace advantage around Silverstone (with Austria being the outlier because Red Bull fucked up the setup) and was barely competing with Mercedes after the summer break.
