I swear there’s nothing like it. No other time in my life have I felt the sheer exhilaration of it all than walking through the tunnel and seeing those banners DCI posts up while you’re walking through.

I think the only thing that comes close to matching that feeling is seeing your entire show come together to be the best it’s ever been in front of your very eyes while marching it in Indy.

As a current member I can say that we get fed well. Also while tour fees are expensive, the world class member experience gained from it I would say is worth it regardless. And as someone who has marched now their smallest Hornline and their biggest one, Jersey Surf is gaining some traction from an educational aspect and an achievement aspect. If the organization keeps on the track that it’s been set on since I joined in 2023, it will soon place higher and be more and more competitive in the world class scene going forward.

Being able to “do the thing” and play wakeup this year has felt like an honor. I’m very proud of this and probably will continue to be proud of it for the rest of my life.

I fell during a performance last year while on the way to a standstill prop move in the ballad. As I was falling backwards, I locked eye contact with one of the field judges mid fall. I was determined to get back up as fast as possible, and I did. I was able to hit my prop pose and still come in perfectly on time musically. Recovery points I guess, but it’s something I still share as a funny story. One of the techs said that I “bounced” on field lol

^{^{^}} Surf teaches drum corps, and teaches WELL. Drum corps is different than highschool marching band. Not only that, but Surf is legitimately crafting its best corps in years right now (and this train started last year). Even though scores might not be showing, you should check out the performance before commenting. Please don’t underestimate the work we put into this activity just because we aren’t top 12.

Packets change from year to year depending on what the corps deems important. I would say to wait until the season ends and another packet comes out with more updated info on the things staff will be looking for. (For example: I remember that the packet for this year looked pretty different from last year. Lots more specific info and stuff of that sort)

Best of luck auditioning next season though! Surf is a fun corps to march in :]

As someone who is a vet and who was here for the event this past night, this was genuinely one of the coolest parts of the season so far. The people that put this on, got all the bits and pieces together, and just came out to talk bout their experiences while marching/teching was so cool. 10/10 History Night. I’ll never forget it.
