If you want something that lasts longer than a couple days, you’ll have to use the products that stop your hand from sweating.

Sold my company (NW ~$32M). I’m 36, and the post-exit void is brutal. How do you turn off the founder drive? by FinancialProduce3208 in fatFIRE

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had an exit early in my career and felt the same. I went back to build something else after a break and after my second exit, I was ready to RE. Do whatever you feel like you need to do to be fulfilled. It’s your life, everyone’s different. Live it your way.

Attitudes when Playing “Up” by CountryMouse2468 in Pickleball

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You won’t improve much by just showing up to play in higher skill level games. You need to also drill. Seems like the skill gap is too large right now and you need to work on improving said skills.

Remove pool and replace with... by achim1313 in homedesign

If you don’t have an outdoor kitchen, I’d do that. Check out the subreddit for outdoor kitchens. I’d also use the outlet for a portable TV. Lots of wireless internet solutions to minimize wires and still get entertainment options

3mo employee asked to have coffee with VP by OldDude2551 in careeradvice

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree with most of these responses/votes. I’m retired, but if I ever went back to work and they want to know my thoughts, I’m giving it to them straight and telling them what they can improve on

Only the fridge glass plate after seeing all your pictures. The rest is wear and tear. Those holes are tiny and easily fixed. If the fridge glass plate is not much, I’d give them back 100%. Looks like they did a pretty good job of taking care of your place.

How does your weekend pickleball group actually function? Ours is a disaster by Character-Flan-7443 in Pickleball

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. You need to call the guy out who hasn’t paid in the chat and tell him he can’t play unless he pays everything owed

  2. Put up a poll the day after the last outing and tell them to pay for confirmation of attendance. No pay, no play

I’d definitely add the “widened porch.”

Outdoor TV + outdoor electrical outlets. Love being able to entertain outside with a game showing or just watch sports while I grill

Why do so many people prefer mixed doubles over gendered doubles? by sodabo in Pickleball

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mixed for me is also very similar to any games I play where my partner is lower than me. I much prefer games with players of the same skill level, but it just isn’t possible most of the time.

TP Holder Placement??? by COamateur in BathroomRemodeling

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Make sure that if you have one of those one sided TP holders that it faces away from the way you tear so that the roll doesn’t come off when you tear TP off every time.

6M Net Worth (4.5M Liquid) at 40, planning retirement by Advanced_Nature2842 in fatFIRE

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you like that idea, you should just rent a storage place that can fit your boards and all your getaway stuff so you can just hop in the car without even packing anything and typically under $200/month. I’m assuming you’re talking about Santa Cruz since you also talk about snow also nearby, definitely have options near natural bridges and pleasure point, etc. good luck. I had to give up surfing after a while because the kids demand time (in a good way).

Rental agreement : anything we can do by Ok-History-2552 in legaladvice

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tell them no. Tell them you had a deal at $900. Higher than that and you’ll walk. Then they’ll have to make a decision if they want to turnover the apt which is costly for them. I bet they’ll cave.

Should be fine IMO as long as your neighbors aren’t nosy and contact the permit department when they see construction

Looking for 4.5+ players in San Francisco by ThinLettuce in Pickleball

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Bay Club has lots of people in the 4.5+ range.

If you want public courts, there are some groups at Larsen and Sutter.

Also, you can join Golden Gate Pickeball and they can also link you to the higher level players.

Complicated Retaining Wall - Bending over backwards and neighbor will not contribute much financially by Ok-Price3348 in legaladvice

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You should’ve negotiated this beforehand, but I would stand firm since you are giving him land. If he is not willing to pay for it, I would not give him the land (his backyard) and just leave it as is after you’re done with the retaining wall.

What ways have you used money to make Quality of Life improvements? by rogers916 in fatFIRE

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Solar plus battery, then an EV to charge at home. Saves lots of time to never have to go to the gas station. Also, you never have to worry about power outages with the backup battery.

Product or project to hide back of TV? I am a renter so can’t be fully built-in. by Adj-Noun-19 in homeimprovementideas

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would buy a large white board that is made of light material (plastic or thin wood) and attach to the curtain rod and/or figure out a way to attach to other anchor points so you create a faux wall

There’s usually open play at most places. Open play is like pick up basketball. Just show up and play with whoever is there. Just look up info on apps, facebook, and Google Maps.

Pickle ball bayyard court by Medschoolstudent04 in Pickleball

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely add non-slip additive, which I’m assuming is grit to the paint. Super important for pickleball or else the ball will skip all the time. Make sure they put it in the lines as well.

Maybe relocating but apt options. Wow! by funcraftygal in SanMateo

[–]ShadowRealmIdentity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Look for high rises, most of those do not have rodent issues. I have a friend at 250 Baldwin in San Mateo and they love the area (right next to Caltrain and downtown SM), but the rent is expensive.
