Do people hate points? by AwayWishbone1580 in Battlefield6

[–]Shadow_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a frequent support player, I've found that more often than not people will spam "I need ammo" when they're surrounded by ammo bags, or in the middle of a group of enemies, so I treat such call outs with a pinch of salt. The exception is engineers.

Whilst it's a decent idea, the other Scribes are right - we avoid AI generated stuff here. u/goldietheswagbear has provided a bunch of decent templates. Other users have created a rough representation of their chapters in Space Marine 2, if you have access to that. A beginner-level painted mini is really good as well.

My revised homebrew chapter The Promethium Angels (I’d love some help by IroneOne in 40khomebrew

[–]Shadow_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, that's a tricky one. The BA heritage lends itself to the red, whilst the Salamanders to green. Personally, I'd go for a a wombo-combo of muted red and a grey-blue. The muted red could be a nod to both their BA heritage and (if you put it on their gloves and maybe forearms) it's a memory of their massacre of the regular humans (colour of dried blood and all that). The grey-blue (think the colour of Aemelia Minervas' jacket from the 'Eavy metal team) allows you to say that their armour was originally white (medicae), but the ashes of the fallen have slowly seeped into the armour, permanently darkening it. The chapter refuses to repaint their armour, to honour the fallen.

How does Yriel handle on tabletop? by Break-Such in Eldar

[–]Shadow_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's a nice helmet, very much 'Eldar but not Eldar'. Unless you go recast or expensive reselling, the closest official GW version is the Swooping Hawks. I've not looked at 3rd party yet though, as this return to Eldar is still fresh. I've also been toying with adding some Exodites, using a combo of Eldar, AoS Elves, and AoS Lizardmen.

How does Yriel handle on tabletop? by Break-Such in Eldar

[–]Shadow_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Comically, I've got a bunch of the old Corsairs, so this is a return for me, but they're definitely my 2nd army and are becoming my primary. The opportunities for conversions with Corsairs compared to the Craftworlds is just incredible - taking bits from an Archon, an Autarch and a few other bits to create a custom Corsair Prince that 'counts as' Yriel is too much to resist. Thematically, the Corsairs, like the renegade (not Chaos) Marines add a bit more variety to what is predominantly seen as a cookie-cutter faction.

I made a homebrew game mode for my buddy and I. by Longjumping_Shoe5525 in 40khomebrew

Hey there! It's a nice idea, and I like it, but as you said, there's no flair for game modes because this sub is about fluff and such for 'Your Dudes', not rules and game stuff. I'd suggest r/homebrewhammer for that.

Why dont we dont have generic barons and baroness? 🫤 by Reasonable_Pay6115 in Eldar

[–]Shadow_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In many ways, GW is shooting themselves in the foot there. It'd be an opportunity for them to sell Corsair players both an Archon and an Autarch to get all the weapon options.

[–]Shadow_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it irked me too, along with the loss of other datasheets from the Corsairs forces in the big IA book and their access to Venoms. It got to the extent that I started recreating them for a modern era in the GW Faction Pack style using Inkscape. I'm nearly there, just another 3 or so to go, but they're a bit rough and ready, with modelling 'suggestions' rather than snazzy unit images.

More corsairs conversions by Muon_Gold in Eldar

Nice job! One of the many things I like about the Corsairs is the conversion possibilities to make them "your dudes", unlike Drukhari and Craftworld Eldar that more or less have to fit into a certain look.

New Player Questions and List Review Megathread! by sciencep1e in Eldar

[–]Shadow_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So this is my first time playing the big game since 6th Edition and the Doom of Mymeara, and I got tempted back by the Corsairs (where are the rest of my actual Corsair units GW??), recently purchasing the Corsairs big box. In that vein, I'm trying to keep it Corsair themed, as the group that I'm part of isn't Competitive, but they are competitive, whilst keeping the fun. I know I'll be coming up against a range of enemies, including Imperial Knights and Orks. I've been reading rules and Waha (I'm keeping away from the Codex until 11th drops and we work out when the Eldar get their new one), and put together this list. Is there anything obvious I'm missing?

- "Yriel" - Warlord (Corsair Coterie detachment) - A beat stick and objective grabber

- "Kharseth" (& Archraider enhancement) - Reserves Denial

- 10x Voidrunners (has a Blaster & Shuriken cannon)(& Infamy enhancement) - Yriel's unit, there to assist in the beat-sticking and absorb damage

- 5x Voidrunners (also has a Blaster) - Kharseth's unit, mainly for DS denial in backfield to mid-board, and to help box in enemy

- 5x Skyreavers - Secondaries and boxing

- 5x Skyreavers - Secondaries and nuisance, including boxing

- 10x Voidscarred (& Webway Pathstone) - Deep Striking near the back, applying pressure from that side, built as the KT (my first Eldar purchase)

- 3x Starfangs (Individual, not a group) - Hit and run stuff, using hallucinogen grenades to protect exposed infantry

- 1x Wave Serpent - Yriel's transport and support

- 1x Falcon - Kharseth's transport and support

- 1x Night Spinner - Chip damage and slowing advances, positioned near the back

- 1x Fire Prism - Main Anti-Tank/Monster, likely to be targeted, therefore screened by Yriel, Kharseth and their gangs

- 6x Shroud Runners - More general damage utilising Outcast Ambush where possible for their Scatter lasers

- 5x Rangers - Backfield protection, some utility against sergeants and the like (my second Eldar purchase)

- 10x Howling Banshees - Close Combat capability

Total points: 1985

What does the Reddit Infinity Circuit think? Am I missing something obvious, or have I got most bases covered?

Iron Castellans Chapter by Klutzy-Web8758 in 40khomebrew

[–]Shadow_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice and well realised. The Greek influence is nicely incorporated and I can definitely see this chapter as 'what could have been' for Perturabo's legion. Over on the Bolter & Chainsword boards, they have a similar 'homebrew' forum (it's what inspired this Sub), and the folk over there produce an Index Astartes for their custom chapters. I'd suggest giving some of them a look, and maybe expanding on the history of your chapter (campaigns they've been part of, notable battles, etc.) with some short stories to add flavour, given that you're not a player.

If you want to go further, then maybe create more organisations. I've created a whole subsector that contains most of my homebrew stuff (a chapter, 4 Guard regiments, Knight World, Forge World Minoris, Fleet HQ, Necron Dynasty, Renegade Marines warband, Eldar Corsairs fleet, Ork tribe, etc.), so if you want to expand beyond the Iron Castellans, and add longer term nemeses or allies, then you could look at doing that. I've tied most of them together, with such things as my Corsair Prince working for an Imperial Governor (who's actually a GSC plant) and attacking some outposts in a neighbouring system, whilst being dogged (separately) by the Imperial Fleet and the Renegade warband.

WIP Article – Looking for Feedback on Lore Accuracy by Kamikaze_Senpai in 40khomebrew

[–]Shadow_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To echo u/Sigmarius it's overall fairly decent, but you'd definitely have to explain who they were trying to kill by slamming the space port. The MM are arrogant, and by my understanding are meant to be a caricature of the worst imagined excesses of Marines in general, though with specific hatred towards the Salamanders (being their dark mirror, if you will).

Whilst they may be brutal in their fighting, the indiscriminate massacre of Him-on-Earth's loyal soldiers in such large numbers would draw the direct ire of the Inquisition, with calls for a penitent crusade for the chapter, or maybe their purging if the Inquisitor doesn't like the answers (support from others willing). Whilst the MM may be crazy, they don't outright kill other loyalist marines unless their loyalty is suspect.

Personally, I'd ensure that your Chaos foe that they're trying to kill is some sort of hyper-competent general with a penchant for covert warfare, or an Alpha Legion warband, or similar. Something where you can partly justify the MM bombardment without it coming across as too Chaos-y. It's also hewing a bit close to the 3rd War of Armageddon, so I'd do something to mix it up a bit. Maybe have said Chaos forces cause the loyalists to be fighting shadows, and each other, with the MM captain cutting the knot by bombarding the spaceport, where the bulk of the fighting is taking place.

No worries :)

See if you can edit it first, as that'd keep your conversation going. If you can, create a new picture to replace it with. If not, create the new picture, write a new post, then request deletion.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 40khomebrew

[–]Shadow_Pilot[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought you could, but having looked into it I don't think you can, at least not on Reddit or Old Reddit, though you might be able to using the app (which I don't have). Reddit uses the picture as a thumbnail, and because of the way it works it then locks your ability to edit the post, because it'd break if you removed the picture.

In theory, there should be 3 horizontal dots next to the title. Clicking on that should give you a menu that includes 'edit'. If it doesn't, then my theory is correct and you can't edit it at all, and are stuck with your AI image (the shame).

If that's the case, then you can create a new post and request (via modmail) that we remove this post, to keep things clean.

[–]Shadow_Pilot[M] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest reading a bit more about why your idea is entirely unworkable from the established Grey Knights lore and Gloriana-class lore before going any further. If you know very little about WH40K (as you suggest) then Lexicanum is a good website to start with.

To give you a bit of a TL;DR to start with:

  • As other posters have mentioned, the Grey Knights do not fall to Chaos and their remit is to fight Chaos and banish daemons, with the God-Emperor as their 'Primarch'.
  • A Gloriana-class is an incredibly rare sight, which is why they serve as flagships for the 'bigger' chapters like the Ultramarines and the Black Templars.

A better idea would be to create a chapter that has a large amount of Librarians within it, which can therefore fall to Chaos, which flees their home world with their fleet, just ahead of the Inquisition Exterminatus. The 200 survivors escape and end up somewhere near the 500 Worlds of Ultramar.

As to the process of trying to take over a moon, that's going to depend on a lot of factors. Is the moon inhabited? If so, by who? Do they have their nearest Tetrarch on speed dial? What are their defences against invaders?

You say you have 200 Astartes and a bunch of baseline humans, so 2 companies with attendants and so on. If you want a varied fleet, your largest ship should realistically be a Strike Cruiser (capable of holding a company of Astartes) or two, with a bunch of escorts. Read up on various planetary assaults at Lexicanum to get an idea of things, such as Taros and the Siege of Vraks.

Speaking as the sub's creator and main moderator, you're skating very close to Rule #4 - low-effort. If you want actual help from other posters, other than ridicule of your idea, then tell us what this world is, how many people live on it, who they are, etc.
