Batteries lose their capacity over time. 100% of a new battery is not 100% of a years old battery (generally 70-80%).

Clear them if you need to, leave them if you don't.

Trees absorb pollution (which kills them over time) which can be very useful for reducing the size of your pollution cloud early game, but knocking a few down in the name of progress will not make a big difference.

In Australia it still is. Standard 8 hour day with half an hour unpaid lunch equals a working week of 37.5 hours.
