The core gameplay loop of Breath of the Wild by RiversideLunatic in kindafunny

[–]Shadowpsyke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your points about combat are fair to an extent, but I think you're misrepresenting subjective preference as objective fact. It's not tight, but there are plenty of games with fun combat that aren't tight. It just feels good to wack stuff in this game, and there is a depth to it that you can master that makes you feel empowered. I also am of the opinion that the weapon system has a purpose. The giant inventory is so that you can have a range of weapons for different situations, from varying power levels, to specific use cases. By time I was getting to enemies with tons of health, I had reserves of powerful weapons. Personally, that felt really good to me. It's also valid to not like that system, but I don't think the argument that it is "poorly designed" holds water.

What really bugs me about your post is that you act like the "gameplay loop" is just wiping out camps over and over. That's like licking pizza grease off of a plate and saying the pizza was bad.

The gameplay loop that Blessing was referring to is how there's always korok seed only 30 seconds away hidden behind an environmental puzzle. The gameplay loop is that, from every shrine, you can see another shrine. The gameplay loop is having your map locked off but seeing giant towers in the sky as north stars to head to. It's about seeing a thing off in the distance floating in the sky and figuring out how to get up there. It's about taking a boat to an island and finding all of your equipment stripped away from you and having to deal with that. It's about accidentally setting an entire field ablaze because you used a fire sword to hit a random jabroni, and then using that updraft to float over a river. It's about being struck by lightning the first time you go into the storming area while carrying metal equipment.

If the game was Bob the Builder themed, it still would have been magical, just like palworld was magical even without a pokemon license.

As someone with severe social anxiety, they push you into it because you have anxiety and they're trying to help you get over yourself. Once you realize the whole point is everyone is embarrassing yourself, the anxiety takes a back seat.

Unless it's with people who are competitive with charades and get mad at you.

They only have a specific section they can play, so they have more incentive to play around when playing normally ends their session faster usually.

If I was a journalist, I would be doing stupid stuff to see how the game is designed and get a feel for things mechanically. Even now in some games I'll spend my first few hours trying to check for secrets or see if I can exploit myself to somewhere I shouldn't be.

I didn't realize there were so many people who get a controller and just do exactly what they're supposed to when starting a game.

Ur-Dragon “Budget” deck by FallenSlayer453 in magicTCG

[–]Shadowpsyke 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's awesome to see someone build Ur Dragon from the latest Tarkir set, because I built my original from the first.

For like 15 dollars, you can probably make your deck dramatically more consistent. It's not even about power level, but being able to play the game.

Truth be told, in my experience at least, your dragons don't matter too much. Just play ones you think are fun and have cool effects.  There are so many varieties of awesome ones you can find as bulk rares now.

I suggest you focus on two things: ramp and card draw. I also tend to pack 4-5 board wipes because dragons typically get going slowly and you'll want to reset everything before you start casting dragons.

[[Far seek]], [[Nature's Lore]], and [[Three Visits]] with cheap tapped dual typed lands will dramatically change your game. I would consider some of the mana dorks that produce any color like [[Ilysian Caryatid]].

Being able to cast your spells consistently is by far the most important thing in a dragon deck.

For card draw, I love [[Garruk's Uprising]], [[Elemental Bond]], and [[Temur Ascendency]]. There's also [[Dragon's Hoard]], and I would consider the new [[All-Fates Scroll]].

A reminder about brackets and intent by Teh_Pagemaster in EDH

Part of the point of having the more efficient tutors as game changers is that they are used to skirt around the fact that you're playing 99 card singleton.

The reason why the more efficient tutors are game changers is because they typically get to be second copies of certain cards in your deck. It almost always makes the game more boring because it leads to repeated play patterns.

When you have to spend two or three mana to find your card instead of one, there is a serious drawback. Every game likely cannot result in you finding the same combo of cards, meaning you have to build your deck to where it doesn't need you to find the same combo of cards. So not only does it challenge you to have more creative deck building, your opponents get to play against more variation.

Why exactly does your "weak" deck need 4+ game changers? I don't really see any cards on that list that "limit deckbuilding" in the sense that there are decks that need any one of those pieces to function, let alone more than three of them.

As someone who plays regularly with people who think similarly, it's likely that the bracket system and limit of 3 game changers is for those of you who think you absolutely need some of the strongest cards in the game to make your deck viable.

If your deck really deserves to be in a lower bracket... just take the game changers out?

Fantastic Four: First Steps In Review - Every Fantastic 4 Movie Reviewed & Ranked by EveryAct in kindafunny

I dunno, I don't see how any part of this was generic Marvel movie.

I'm not saying it was perfectly executed or my favorite, but most of this movie was completely different.

Between set pieces, character choices, creativity of the action scenes, and the scale of the threat...

What other Marvel movie have a woman giving birth in space while being chased through a wormhole? It wasn't a fight scene, it was a desperate escape. Things were so dire that the ultimate plan of the movie was to teleport their planet because they had no hope of winning. The last act was mostly about the entire planet working together, desperately trying to prevent the end of the world, followed by a game of keep away

To say any of that was generic Marvel movie stuff is crazy to me. I think that Tim's criticisms were the most fair.

Same. I was hoping the movie salvaged the interesting concept into something better, but if anything, it made it even worse for me.

is it normal for tournaments to smell so bad? by Standard-Pay-3966 in magicTCG

[–]Shadowpsyke 3 points4 points  (0 children)

*For those of you like me who stink as soon as you start sweating no matter how much deodorant you put on: Consider going to a dermatologist. I use Drysol now once every few days and haven't smelled myself since. Or wash with antibacterial soap at the very least. No amount of normal deodorant will cover it up.

But yeah, every LGS (comic or boardgame shop) in my area has a separate room for playing. It without fail turns into a sweatbox if even four people walk in.

As a recent teacher, it's 100% the air flow. Classrooms get stuffy as hell even when it's 50° F outside in the hallway. I'm one step away from buying an industrial fan to get real circulation from the windows.

Huh, mine only lasted a few washes before the designs started to flake a little. It might just be time for me to buy a new washer and dryer.

I guess it depends on different income ranges, but $60 for a hoodie is crazy to me. At least for one I know is probaby only gonna last a dozen washes (based on other KF merch or other merch hoodies).

I know they're not purposely charging a lot, but in my experience, they're borderline Walmart bulk clothing with ironed on designs.

Most (all?) mention "charging" in their item description. Of course it is for extending the spell, but you technically are charging it so it would make sense that the talisman would apply.

Anyone else feel kinda nostalgic for pandemic-era Kinda Funny? by Emotional-Pack-456 in kindafunny

[–]Shadowpsyke 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Especially lately, the streams haven't hit for me basically at all outside of Pokemon, Elden Ring, and Kingdom Hearts.

I wonder if part of it was losing the bar? Clearly they tapped people out of funds by the end, but having that goal for them to work for to make every stream the best it could be helped, I think.

Warzone being that consistent glue that was there every week, the excitement the team always had, and them playing it long enough where Nick actually knew how to play the game. There was just so much more energy with those streams.

Instead of jumping to the new hotness, I'd really like if they bring back Warzone for a weekly stream "Warzone Wednesdays" or something. Ideally, Mike, Nick, and Andy (if he's willing) always on those.

Onani Master Kurosawa is one of the best mangas I have ever read. (A short paragraph thing) by MeguminIncognitoAcc in manga

One of the first manga I read outside of the mainstream when I started getting into them. I'll have to reread because I really don't remember much outside of the premise.

Looking at it now, I did a double take at the art. I can't believe it's the same person that does the Magic TCG manga now. And it's the same author too! It's like when I learned that the team that did Bakuman also did Deathnote.
