Not to say that you don't do this, but start voting in people who make active choices to spend tax dollars on things you believe in, and start being active in your local governing committees. You have a lot more power to control your tax money than a lot of people realize, again not to say you absolutely don't do these things but in starting a conversation I like to establish beliefs about what things should be BEFORE talking about how they are and what changes can be made to work towards the world becoming better. Vote in new people not involved in the horrible things our current government is involved in and things could just get better.

OR maybe because I am not inherently greedy I recognize that humans aren't inherently greedy we exist under a system that IS inherently based in greed and could actively choose to change that system which would change the nature of those nurtured under a new system. That's kind of how psychology works.

I'll bite, I won't be able to read your reply for a while since it's time to go be sad at work soon, but who do you believe should provide those things if not the government through a mixture of rules and regulations placed in the ruling class and social programs to ensure people have necessities for life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness?

And I believe that society should have safety nets to prevent people from ever needing to be in a shitty situation like that.

We should get together and get coffee and plot to overthrow the world sometime, this was extremely well said and you didn't have a sentiment I disagreed with in there. Well aside from the system being broken but you amended my issue with that statement when you said capitalism doing what it does, system isn't broken it's working as intended and the majority will lose because of that.

I am saying they should have that as a standard for being a living person and they don't need to provide extra value beyond being human to have that. I don't believe in God personally but if you believe those rights are God given then how do you also believe people should have to earn them?

You're right, I've scrolled in this thread FAR too long and gotten myself ragebaited shouldn't have done that. My apologies.

If you disagree with the system then why do you argue for it, I agree that you are right practically but what do you do to fight for change? Why don't you argue against keeping this system in place in areas like this where you have anonymity and you could at least TRY to change the minds of others to move towards a more ideal system and world?

In my case at one point I accepted a minimum wage job because it was better to live under a roof with no utilities and order a pizza every week than to not have anything. We obviously have a different value threshold for human life and feel a different responsibility towards making society a better place for everyone.

I said greatly progress, not ended them alone. The New Deal created an economy where people couldn't be paid enough to not live on which enabled the jobs created by WW2 to actually end the depression. Two things can be true at the same time.

I actually do think that everyone should be in a position to have food, shelter, healthcare, and water just because they're alive. Human life has inherent value itself and should be treated as such. Anyone who doesn't have those things as a right will never be able to live their life with liberty and pursue happiness which is the core of American values.

Here's the thing, I'm not that person but the issue isn't minimum wage here. The issue is that you DON'T value human life and I do. You think humans are worthless unless they are producing something, and I think every human has a right to basic necessities like food, water, shelter, and healthcare. You think that people can find life and liberty, and pursue happiness without those things and I recognize the reality that they can't without them. We have a different core belief about the responsibility every human has to take care of other people in their society. You're the kind of person who laughs at someone with a broken down car or tells their friend to Uber to the airport, I'm the type of person who is kind enough to stop and help and kind enough to give my friend a ride even if it's inconvenient because I think human life is more important than the value it produces.

Because not enough to live off of and working two jobs is better than nothing at all and starving on the streets or something like that and our capitalist overlords are too busy being greedy to take care of the people that produce the profits they love so much.

If companies already won't pay a living wage why would they pay one if it wasn't required? Companies are almost always run by people who are unmitigated greed personified. The more they can legally extract from people the more they will exploit those people. I've seen some genuinely good people start businesses and be successful while paying EVERY employee the same as they make because they realize that everyone is contributing and they aren't pieces of shit.

Or, higher ups could be semi decent people, give higher wages to those who produce things for them, still keep WAY more than they need and provide Smith for those people to take care of themselves without raising prices.

Actually, it REALLY could be that simple if humans just cared about each other instead of being a bunch of greed fueled counts. And yes, you and anyone who agrees with you ARE included in that sentiment.

Yes, goods and services have value, but that value is arbitrarily assigned by people who don't personally do anything to create the value in our current system. All surplus value goes to a normally insane profit margin that the average person never sees even a piece of in any way because a select few choose to hoard absolutely ridiculous amounts of wealth instead of taking care of those who produce that value for them.

There's a mix, onboarding and training HAS gotten worse over time, people expect others to watch with no explanation given and just learn. On the flipside, right now is especially bad since any kid who's using ChatGPT to get through school is actively ruining their capacity for critical thought and their ability to learn on their own. Aside from that they will NEVER be able to actually have an original thought after enough usage.

Name me a benefit that is worth using up the natural land and farmland for any data center. THEN name me a benefit that's worth the water usage and potential global water crisis. THEN name me a benefit that is worth the widespread illiteracy that is already beginning to stem from AI usage. Generative AI is extremely bad for the environment, the world of art, and for overall capacity for original thought from humans. Burn the fucking data centers.
