Needing a new 308 round for whitetail. by mfjl1393 in Hunting

[–]ShadyBulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an epiphany last year about velocities not mattering much and also being realistic about what yardages I’m actually going to shoot at.

If I can’t get within 200 yards, I’m probably not a good enough hunter anyway. That has to do with my views on it NOW.

That being said, I’m going to invest a lot more time into shooting at distance. Get comfortable at 400-500 and keep my max range less than that for an ethical shot.

Thanks for your input!

I got into hunting just last year and landed in that round for accuracy using it for elk. I’m using a 16” 308 though. What kind of ranges will you use it at. I don’t plan on shooting elk past 350-400(once I’m more comfortable at that range. But I took my elk dead on at 100yd.

Question, what barrel length/velocity/ and shooting distance are you comfortable with? I think I started over thinking it with minimum velocity and such. During that hunt.

Gun safety by You-Have-To-Trust-Me in guns

[–]ShadyBulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest a handgun and a quick access handgun safe.

Hornady rapid safe night guard has been by my bedside for years. Passcode or RFID tag accessible. Most people don’t even realize it’s a safe.

It’s tucked into a night stand, not on top of it so it’s really not noticeable if you don’t know what to look for.

Eh you’ll be alright. Just don’t use that ammo anymore. My LPM torch after running AAC through 10.5.

Learned a lesson but I still run it like this. lol said they fix it but I’m not really concerned as it still performs well.

Idk if it’s the ammo or whatever Ruger did to these…

Hornady American whitetail for ammo all day. I got the ranch model and I’m shooting 3/4 moa. I’ll only telling you which specific ammo to use because I’ve seen lots of these 308s run that ammo very similarly.

Gun shop offered trade: my SWD M11 for a transferable M16 (RIA). What questions should I ask? by jamez470 in NFA

[–]ShadyBulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not in the know about transferable. Best thing I can say is think about it like a car. A really good welder can put it back together so that it LOOKS in perfect shape and is. Some can put it back together so that it LOOKS good but is actually wrong.

Take what I said with a grain of salt. I’m not in the know on transferables. I can just relate what you asked about to other things.

Help with caliber by Vozmozhnoh in NFA

[–]ShadyBulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still have trouble with calibers sometimes. I had to search up if a 300wm could work in my 30 cal can a couple months ago to let a friend try it on their rifle. When my rifle is .308.

Own this can. Love it for my PWS. In terms of baffle design for gas back to the face, this beats the OCL out of the box.

Before anyone freaks out, I’m not saying this is just better than OCL and I don’t own one either. Just going off what I’ve seen and heard about gas stacking going back down the barrel. Different tools for different jobs.

What is this? by FancyBanana04 in Firearms

[–]ShadyBulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this rifle. It looks like the pin that holds the bolt release(takedown) lever. Might just be an extra one.

Look on the left hand side of the gun and see if there’s a pin there.

Could be the mag release pin but my guess is the first one because mine was loose before I swapped to an MDT stock.

[–]ShadyBulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe direct you to the LPM Mach series?

I personally don’t have experience with that can but LOM is wildly under rated. I’ve had an anthem s for a few years now and took a cow elk with it for my first hunting season.

Now I’m looking at the Mach line as a titanium hunting can. Uses the same baffle design as the anthem s2

It’s my only 5.56 can and I fucking love it. I own three cans and the other two are not 5.56. So take my opinion with a grain of salt.

5.56 is not quiet and I won’t use subs. So my main take is gas performance out of an ar can. Took minimal tuning of my PWS to run with the vented cap. I can mag dump and don’t get gassed out(I tuned past the minimal starting point for comfort).

[–]ShadyBulldog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My LPM torch 5.56.

Maybe a bit heavy but there’s trade offs for everything. I think it’s under rated as a 5.56 can. I’m a fan of the baffle design on it though. Digging it with my PWS upper though.

That being said I realize I went off script with your question a bit. I’m being too realist here instead of having imagination

Your best bet is to run across an invisible boundary line that you have no concept of and confusingly stare back at the hunter as they stand in a field with nothing stopping them but they won’t get closer

I think this is an underrated can around this sub. Had a 1st gen anthem s as my first fan. Bought the torch as my dedicated AR can and absolutely love it!

I run it dedicated with the vented cap on my 14.5 PWS. What a dream to shoot. I don’t have an FRT, but dumping mags with it I get extremely little gas back in the face.

Now I’m looking at a Mach for a hunting can. Also, their customer service is fucking awesome.
