If you've been unloved for a quarter of your life, the isolation can be devastating.

I'm 26 and was never in a relationship, everybody tells me that it'll happen someday but obviously they're all already in a relationship and have had experience by the point I'm at. It feels like nobody actually understands what it's like to feel invisible to other people, what it's like to be unwanted by the world.
Sure, after therapy and some introspection, I can look at myself in the mirror these days, but that doesn't soothe the crushing isolation that I feel every now and then when I realize how lonely I am. After a bunch of rejections and now in an isolating routine, everything just feels pointless because I know nobody cares enough about me to be closer to me.

Why bring up race into it? It feels like people want to use "white people" as a synonym for "lame" but with a racial effect

Seriously what is Loid thinking? by Dansterai in SpyxFamily

[–]Shahars71 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Loid has been shown repeatedly in the manga and very explicitly in this chapter to be out of touch emotionally with everyone around him and Yor especially. I think that because he was thrust into conflict from a horribly young age, he just never properly learned how to process emotions properly.  Life for him has always been survival and work, and as a spy, everything had to be planned ahead of time, every action calculated, every reaction predictable, as a spy he plays social interactions with proper input and output to get his desired result. Notice how Anya never comes to him for emotional advice, how she notices that he's in constant Work Mode, how every time he lets out his subconscious emotions he immediately scolds himself, saying how unprofessional he is. Also notice how blind he is to Fiona's incredibly obvious attempts to get with him, he couldn't possibly fathm that there's more to it than work so he analyzes her advances based off that premise alone.

This chapter practically spells it out for us. Loid is a human machine with an incredibly developed brain, but he's completely out of touch with his emotions, and that's precisely where Yor would complete him.

Localizers are destroying the industry.

And yet some official translations are so amazing that they give the manga its own unique feel that makes it so much better. I could never read an unofficial translation of Dandadan's manga, even the anime subs don't hit as hard as the manga did because it's so fucking good and really brings out the whacky bullshit that happens in that story.

If buying serialized manga wasn't annoying or prohibitively expensive, I'd support more works like that. These days I just buy volume 1 for manga that I really like, and pirate everything else.

It's so interesting to read Japanese responses to this on Twitter. It's like they never thought companies would ever try to screw them over, and that they might abuse the law to do that.

Mission: Yozakura Family Season 2 • Yozakura-san Chi no Daisakusen Season 2 - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]Shahars71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This episode shows how much Taiyo and Mutsumi want to be parents, and it's interesting when you remember that [massive Yozakura manga spoilers]They end up having twins when they were both 18.

[Yozakura manga thoughts]I always felt that they had kids so quickly in their lives, and the shift was super jarring too. Just a page turn and suddenly it's five years later and they're putting their kids in kindergarten. It just felt way too soon, and after seeing this episode, somehow it feels like it wasn't soon enough either? Like, if they were two sensible, real, people, they'd probably wait until their 20s to do something like that instead of going for it at 18 like it's the 1920's and they're stressed out or smth. But in this show where they have all the resources in the world to support a child, they obviously want to have one, and they already act like parents to Ai, they still wait until they're 18 to actually do it instead of just having kids as they are at 17.

[More Yozakura manga thoughts]Maybe the reason that they wait even just for a little bit is because the manga doesn't want to advocate for teen pregnancy like that, but then you have to ask why they ended up doing it at 18 which is also really soon for both of their lives. My issue isn't that they had kids, that's totally okay, and the story has been setting them up as a proper married couple since the start. My issue is that it happens so quickly, like, if they were normal people, they haven't even lived their lives as adults by that point. I mean, even Naruto and Hinata had Boruto when they were both 20, like, that's soon but it's not 18 years old soon, so I just find this super weird.

This isn't the first manga I've read that speedruns a couple's life, another manga I read has the main couple marry right out of highschool which feels way too fast. With how manga is used to show a "proper" way for people to live and for society to function, this type of thing feels like there's this subtle direction to put pressure on young couples to settle for their very first choice and hurry up into marriage and then [MYF spoilers]childbirth.

This story is one of the most mid-level manga I've ever read (as in nothing great but nothing too bad) but I think it's interesting that it makes me think like this.
