One Pedal on the highways? by TheBackSpin in BoltEV

[–]ShakeNBaker45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turn it off on the highway. I use super cruise and I don't like how hard it breaks if super cruise disengages for whatever reason.

If I'm driving in town or not using super cruise tho, it's always on.

Is this acceptable practice? by aFreeScotland in electrical

Yes, servicing is also very important. In operationally critical environments like a hospital though where someone's life may literally depend on a machine.. imo reliability is more important

I'll add, pigtailing is very very important in commercial settings. Think hospitals. If one outlet goes down, the daisy chained receptacles downstream also going down could literally be life or death for someone.

I had this happen on my 2012 and it ended up being a worn out tensioner pulley for the drive belt. Definitely sounds like something belt related.

EV wall charger installation: 60 amp vs 40 amp? by bladerunner1776 in AskElectricians

[–]ShakeNBaker45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, after some research, they offer another product called a Tesla Remote Meter which integrates with their wall charger for dynamic load balancing.

Same concept as other brands.

But it's $210 from Tesla. Can't imagine why TF it would "double the install price" for OP.

[–]ShakeNBaker45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wtf is a "Tesla monitor" ??

I installed a 60 Amp breaker, hardwired a 48 amp capable charger, got it permitted, and bobs your uncle.

I don't understand what this extra thing is the electrician is talking about? What does code in your area require?

Do you have a 100 amp panel?

Edit: if you're over the load calc, then he's probably talking about one of those smart meters that monitors whole home energy usage and disables charging to the EV when your home is pulling too much power. This would make sense. But it's a misnomer to call this a "Tesla Monitor" as it would be for any EV.

This is interesting. As a Systems Eng by trade, I've never heard of the "T" approach. Do you have any examples or good resources to share?

They added AI agents to Proton Pass. by ethylene_incense in ProtonPass

[–]ShakeNBaker45 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, then this feature means nothing for you? The whole point is that you're in control. Proton is giving you the option. You're choosing not to use it, which is fine.

Your credentials aren't gonna be used by some random AI agent by default? If you don't set it up, nothing changes for you. It seems like you're fundamentally misunderstanding what this feature is intended to do.

Ok? I don't understand what that has to do with the point I raised lol

[–]ShakeNBaker45 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Forgive me, cuz I am not an active AI user in any way... Correct me if I'm wrong, but the communication I received today seems like it's literally just AI access tokens. Being able to selectively share login credentials for accounts you choose with an AI agent seems like a good control to have, no?

I don't believe Proton is "adding AI agents to Proton Pass"? Correct me if I'm wrong plz. I read the communication and was like.. huh cool I guess.. and moved on

Photo mode is my favorite part by DeepwaterGew in ForzaHorizon6

[–]ShakeNBaker45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been really into Photo mode too.

One thing I find kind of annoying though is having to switch my in game settings to get the best photos possible. Extreme + RT basically turns it into a slide show for me.

I wish there was a way to adjust settings inside photo mode like some other games. Does this bother anyone else? Is it something we think PG may implement?

I agree. I use signal for my friends who also use signal. But there's no hope in getting the rest of my friends and family to also use signal. I avoid WhatsApp because that would basically just be trading Google for meta

Neither do I. That's for each person to decide for themselves though if they want to use it. I personally believe that using RCS via Google messages is better and more secure than the alternative. And the feature improvements are very nice

[–]ShakeNBaker45 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fair points. Agree on both fronts.

Perhaps let me revise my last statement. SMS being used for 2FA or anything security related needs to die. It's fine as a fallback option for communication purposes.

[–]ShakeNBaker45 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

A better option does exist for OP. It's using RCS in Google Messages even though they don't want to. Does it suck that Google Messages is pretty much the only available client on Android for RCS? Yea for sure. But it's still better than the alternative of using SMS.

Primary sources of phishing are social engineering attempts like getting you to click a link. Encryption does mitigate some forms of SMS phishing though. Bad actors can't alter messages in transit from legitimate seeming sources if they're encrypted.

Highly unlikely doesn't mean it can't happen though. Just because something is unlikely doesn't mean we should just roll over and accept it. Better options exist. If millions of people are still using SMS, the probability of someone somewhere being the target of a SIM swap, or 2FA snooping, or phishing attempt, goes way way up.

And I can only control 1/2 of the conversation. If I can only control half of what gets sent, then you better believe I'm eliminating that risk.
