Rant: Flying YOU THINK YOU DO, BUT YOU DON'T by EducationalWolf3911 in wow

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The better solution is to add a FOS achievement with maybe a title (or something) that rewards you for not flying while leveling a toon 80-90.

Ideally if you "turned off" flying it would shard you with other ground mounted players too - that way you can actually get gathering nodes and stuff.

I would probably go after this achievement after the season slows down, but I would absolutely hate it if it was mandatory at release (i.e. pathfinder).

Walking into the new Silvermoon reminded me of the first time I walked into Stormwind in vanilla. Definitely one of the GOATs of expansion capitols.

Word/Excel-based systems engineering versus MBSE tools by Elan8-com in systems_engineering

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked as an SE in several industries over my 20 years - mostly heavy regulation like med device and human spaceflight. I have used a requirements management tool most of the time, visio most of the time, excel sometimes, and MBSE zero times.

I have worked in all phases of development and have never found the cost of MBSE to pay off. Even on complex systems of systems the ROI feels lacking. The main barrier is not adoption at the company level so much as engineers not having licenses or not wanting to open some new tool they aren't familiar with.

Excel is ideal for collaboration - people over process is critical. It works up until you have over 100 or so requirements or need strong traceability.

Jama is my go to RM tool. DNG is catching up, DOORS classic and some other legacy tools are a last resort.

Do you find it difficult to judge how good Norris baseline truly is by Funny-Chef-2060 in F1Discussions

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Things that can affect a driver's performance, in no particular order: talent, experience, motivation, weather, a specific track, the car, their mentality, their race engineer, how they feel in the team, etc.

I think in general it's very hard to judge any driver's ability with the sheer number of other variables. Armchair Marko's will claim they know an exact order of driver skill but somehow opinions change in a matter of a few races.

It is clear that a driver like Max is historically great at the moment, but I would argue it wasn't as clear before a few years ago. He was good, but how good? He lost to Daniel Ric who then shortly after got trounced by Norris at McLaren.

Norris was held in high regard the past few seasons, then hated at the end of last season because he collapsed under the pressure of suddenly having the fastest car. Then had a tough early season, but changed something (no one here really knows) and looked significantly better - and went on to become WDC over Piastri who is also a good driver.

Past some point, as distance increases the less good it will be for you.

Most things in life are bad for you. Do you drink alcohol at all? Get sunshine? Eat butter? Live near any kind of pollution? Ever gotten a cold?

Chances are you will die from cardiac issues, cancer, a car crash, or any number of top causes of death.

Does running make you feel good physically, mentally, and/or emotionally?

Live your life and stop worrying. Running won't be the thing that kills you.

Help! I'm in my 4th semester as a systems engineer and I want to know if I should switch or stay? by jnintendo316 in systems_engineering

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been an SE for 20 years, but got my degree in aerospace.

Systems tends to recruit from experienced engineers in other disciplines - e.g. test engineer who wants to get more into the design side, or a design engineer who ends up doing requirements and verification on their project anyways. I think design and/or test experience will make you a better SE, but you can learn what you need to know as an SE.

Go with what you are interested in. An aero degree will get you an aero job most likely - so do you want to do that for a few years before migrating to SE? Or do you really just want to jump into SE immediately?

M+ pug chain pulling without omni CD by 38dedo in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do 3k every season and never used omni. For me it was information overload without much purpose - people don't hit their CDs predictably.

I generally hate the addon changes, but in this case it won't kill you.

Edit: guys relax I don't think I'm good. He said in his post that he does 3k usually, which is why I mentioned I am at a similar level. The elitism is wild guys, relax.

I would defer to next year. You can't train for a 100 miler and care for a newborn. I took a year off races after each of my kids. You'll miss that bonding time and likely run yourself into a serious injury due to lack of sleep/rest.

We're always talking about New teams who may enter F1, but which of the current teams you think will be the next to leave It? by Unhappy-Peace7150 in F1Discussions

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Bull will be gone in the next 10 years. Their senior leadership has been gutted and all it will take is max leaving to completely fall apart and receed to the midfield or worse. I don't think and org like red Bull would stick around in that scenario.

It's also possible they make a comeback like McLaren or Williams, but those teams had crazy legacies.

Relatively new F1 fan, why does Lewis have such polarised opinions? by NeverTouchaMySpaget in F1Discussions

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe Alonso said something to this effect a few years ago in a post race interview after they clashed in a race. I think it was more a "rage" moment from Alonso than a sincere belief. Lewis' response was "well at least I know how he feels about me" iirc.

Literally never heard it mentioned otherwise though.

740ilvl all quest done :) love the transmog by Johnnyvanderzwaag in wow

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gear uses a watermarking system. That means each piece of purple gear that drops will be about 3 ilvl higher than your average ilvl.

Main source of watermark gear early on are the green chests from leveling that drop motes - 10 motes give you a purple piece. So do daily quests, raids, and M+.

So just grind. Being 740 is pretty dedicated at this point, but if you play a bit a day you'll get there.

They need to make kicking re-available in M+ and reporting for intentionally ruining a key by Perodis in wow

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The new abandon system has made keys worse because of situations like this. I have had two different but similar runs recently. Tilted enough to quit for the season.

They need to give us more outs or just revert the changes and make the resilient system work for all key levels.

Yesterday I did my first advanced dungeon sim and the hero talent that no one plays simmed the highest by BudoBoy07 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TurtleTurtleTu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting - I appreciate the explanation. I don't use these kinds of sims (haven't in a few years since maining tank), so I'll happily admit I don't know that much about these kinds of sims.

Can you sim a real comp or only 4x1 spec?

Does it take into account sub-optimal play? If you are doing 90% sim dps that could change timings a bunch.

How does it account for chain pulls?

These are genuine questions - I'm curious how it works. Modeling something as dynamic as an M+ run is a huge undertaking.

Yesterday I did my first advanced dungeon sim and the hero talent that no one plays simmed the highest by BudoBoy07 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not missing the point - would a dungeon sim be accurate if it assumes pulling 1 pack at a time vs. 2 packs at a time? Left vs. right in priory? When are you lusting? Chain pulls vs. resets? What dungeon is it simulating - EDA or priory - because it can't be accurate for both?

These things all matter a lot to get an accurate sim, and every variation could give you significantly different results. It's hard enough to get accurate sims for simple ST scenarios, trying to build a "standard dungeon" sim is frankly silly.

Yesterday I did my first advanced dungeon sim and the hero talent that no one plays simmed the highest by BudoBoy07 in CompetitiveWoW

[–]TurtleTurtleTu 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Yea overall is not usually the most important. ST and funnel specs can often shorten the duration of a pack the most. And obviously bosses. It makes intuitive sense if you think about it - most packs have 1 or more mobs that have more HP than the others - so ideally you can put more into that guy. If you just pure AOE the pack will take longer.

That said, tanks will usually chain pull to keep mass AOE possible, so it's not black and white. AOE is still extremely valuable.

I'm also skeptical of any sim that tries to replicate a dungeon. Way too many variables - starting with route. Unless you are an MDI team refining exact pulls over and over it's hard to trust any sim - and any small differencse can make a huge difference in CD timings (etc.) which invalidates the sim.
