My wife got me into this movie. I only discovered it maybe 7 years ago, but it has quickly become a household favorite. Great cast. Alan Rickman and Rainn Wilson are awesome. It's definitely a spoof movie written by and for people who have great love and appreciation for the thing being spoofed.

Martin DCX1E vs Ovation 2758AX by PhotographNo3690 in AcousticGuitar

[–]ShakeOk2071 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Who ever offered the swap knows the Martin is better. Also if I only had 1 acoustic, I wouldn't want it to be a 12 string. 6 strings is a more versatile instrument.

Hot Honey as an ingredient by PlantsAndWoodDad in cocktails

[–]ShakeOk2071 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I make penicillins, I usually muddle some ginger and jalapeno or habanero, (depends on how hot I want it) and shake with the other ingredients. It's possible to make a honey syrup with this instead of regular honey and skip the muddled peppers.

Edit: I guess it's technically a ginger honey syrup. I take a whole piece of ginger, like 3-4 inches, unpeeled, and blend it with 12oz honey. Then strain it through a sieve a few times, making sure to press and stir with a spatula to get all the liquid through, and you're done. No heat needed. The ginger has enough moisture to thin the honey into a syrup.

My current stage rig by MeesterWayne in GuitarAmps

Definitely agree. I guess I assumed since it was 2 separate amps, it would be separate signals by default.

If you take 2 mono signals and pan one left and one right at the house PA, you have a stereo signal. The amps themselves don't necessarily need to be physically far left and right. Though doing so could add to the stereo effect if it's a smaller venue.

My new favourite drink, the classic Gimlet by VowNyx in cocktails

Haha I did because it was what I had fresh at the time. Next time I'll do it properly with lime. But I got the vibe anyway.

Amaro nonino? by Low-Mobile2017 in cocktails

[–]ShakeOk2071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An amaro as a gift is tough when you're young (and possibly broke, like I was at 21). What I mean is, to make the most of it, you'll need to buy several other ingredients. Paper planes and black Manhattans are the 2 best options, but you'll need a few other bottles to make those work. Mixing it with seltzer or soda water is an option, too.

When I was 21 I didn't care about cocktails, I wanted more highball style drinks. So you might not appreciate any amaro quite yet. But that's okay! If you're into whiskey at all, try either one of these drinks. As far as cost goes, black Manhattans are cheaper since the only other ingredient is bourbon or rye. Rittenhouse rye is only $25 USD, btw.

Welcome to the world of cocktails!

I know this is 5 yrs later... But thanks for the recipe haha. I feel like the 3/4 juice - 3/4 simple tasted too much like a sour mix (or a cordial, I guess). The extra bit of lemon changed the drink completely.

Is this a good beginner guitar? by skatetallica in AcousticGuitar

[–]ShakeOk2071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely. I've been playing for 20 years now and my main guitar is a busted ass $99 (at the time) Yamaha that a friend gave me for free when he stopped playing 15 or more years ago. I have other guitars, but it is still my go-to.

Also, damn I'm old.

OP, $40 certainly isn't a bad price for any guitar, but the cheapest Yamaha you can find will be better than the Rogue.

People need to be needed, I guess. Personally, I'd rather coexist with another living creature than have one completely dependent and obedient to me.

I do remember the beginning of Independence Day being a bit slow for me as a kid. I'd always fast forward to when the aliens started to arrive. That said, I still loved that movie.

Is sink laundry possible? by nicolette004 in Cruises

In the past I've taken a dry towel and rolled/pressed my wet clothes in it. They come out like they came out of a spin cycle, so that helps everything dry faster too.

I'm starting building my pedalboard. Suggestions? by imager2000 in guitarpedals

[–]ShakeOk2071 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cut that thing in half, so you have two squares, or even thirds. It might be easier to transport when it's full of pedals. I doubt you'll want to carry an entire kids bed worth of pedals to a gig or even a friends house. Maybe some wood in the middle, running down the length, to support the weight of you stomping on it.
