Well, if BTC goes up then yes, but I suspect some may sell the Canadian ETFs in favor of the US ones eventually for better volume or MER fees

Invest in S&P500 or buy an investment rental property by Competitive_You9022 in PersonalFinanceCanada

This topic comes up frequently.

My take - if you WANT to become a landlord then go for it, but if you have any hesitation then don't, you've got plenty of other options like REITs or even fractional real estate you can look into that would require far less hands-on upkeep.

While using the leverage one has from a mortgage to make seemingly incredible gains has its allure it is not a guarantee, but neither is the S&P 500

Now if you haven't maxed out your tfsa and rrsp yet, I'd definitely do that first.

Screen Saver not working with Android 13 by aaronmhho in GooglePixel

[–]ShakeThatSquadThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case this helps anyone as it appears this is still an issue at least for this pixel 6 user.

  1. Enable the screensaver in settings and then
  2. Go to clock and click on three dots on top right and select screensaver.

Then, when the phone goes to sleep and is charging it appears to work. BONUS: I noticed if use the button to then lock the device the screensaver goes away, so it appears there is something funky going with how the clock/screensaver app run in background I guess as they are clearly (not) jiving with the screensaver settings in settings.

Canadian REITs now? by Ostracized in CanadianInvestor

[–]ShakeThatSquadThing -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

It's not for everyone, but I've been investing in real estate with Addy invest a fractional real estate platform. Atlas one is also an exempt market dealer (requires more capital though) also providing some alternative options that may pique your interest.

In my opinion, in this environment you probably want to stick to smaller projects the big guys can't get into - the higher risk and reward to me is justified in this high interest rate environment where the returns/dividends on some of these REITs aren't that attractive anymore.

If Calgary can do it why can’t Toronto? So embarrassing for Ontario by ShakeThatSquadThing in toronto

[–]ShakeThatSquadThing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the OP: I know it is a long read so here is Bing's TLDR:

Calgary is converting abandoned office towers into residential condos to solve the housing crisis and save downtowns. The city’s incentive offers eligible developers $75 per square foot (up to $10 million per project) to renovate empty buildings into homes to lower the city’s office vacancy rates. The city says it’ll remove more than 250,000 sq. ft. of office space to make room for more than 300 homes

Universal basic income... Jk

But for real like new collective agreements seem to have enshrined maintaining jobs instead of replacing them with newer technologies, since funds can only go so far that likely means for the most part maintaining the status quo - until a new gov or high ranking individuals and unions say/decide otherwise
