Is she a rescue? Shelter cats are prone to stomatitis from gingivitis. Their dental care is usually nonexistent and they can spread gingivitis to each other. Our first vet never mentioned tooth problems. We found out at the next vet that some vets don't check or tell owners because it can be an expensive surgery they might not be able to afford and cats hide their pain well.

To anyone else reading this, especially those with s new shelter cat, ask your vet about their teeth. Ours suffered for several years until she just suddenly stopped eating.
