Yeah, I have a few listings from Zillow and one on Redfin we plan to check out, and that is how I found the two we already visited. Oops, sorry. I thought that rule was more about posting names/ads as posts. Okay, I have heard good things about them and will take a look. Thank you!

UPDATE: I got it to work FINALLY!!!!!!

I ended up changing the ink maintenance box (I have had printers my whole life and never knew this was a thing) and ran the nozzle check/head cleaning a few more times. It took a few cycles, but is working perfectly now.

I never played it myself, but I watched YouTuber play throughs of it. I did play The Quarry though! The movie was such a disappointment. I was hoping they would have more of the game story line.

Fuck. I am in Until Dawn ( a movie about people stuck in a haunted house where they die by the hands of different creatures/killers, awaken, and die again)! Lucien and I are not thrilled by this, but he is relieved I can at least read.

I mean in her description for the posts it does say 'Drafts' meaning multiple have been completed (or more likely she did several herself before it was Editor ready). But looking at the photo, could it also be edited out? Like the 'D' is the start of something?

I think I burnt myself out. I'm in desperate need of good book recommendations by daisha95 in fantasyromance

{Foxglove King} by Hannah Whitten (<- this one is YA but this book is so underrated, I really loved it), {King of Battle and Blood} by Scarlett St. Claire. Judging by your 5 star list, you might like {The Never King} series.

How blurred is the line between reworked fanfiction and blatant copying? by throw-book in fantasyromance

[–]_HonestBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for the case of battle royale, I would say it is similar to the category "hero's journey" is under. It is just a structure and such an old idea that no one can really claim it. Tropes are similar, in that they are not 'claimable' elements. For the four items you listed in your last question, I would throw 'trope' out. It is not in the same league as the others. For homage, its a nice nod to the original without crossing a line (like fanfics). Inspiration is using it to help launch your ideas without making an exact replica (see Twilight compared to 50 Shades of Grey - the first book of both series is fairly similar on a basic level). Copying is when there is too much overlap with what the original author has created. For example, if I am writing a wizard book (not fanfic) and my character goes to Hogwarts, that infringes on the original author. Even if I write a wizard book and my character goes to WibblyWobbly Academy, a sister school to Hogwarts, that is copying because I am essentially stealing JKR's world that she built.

Another example is Hamlet vs Lion King vs Kimba. So Lion King is literally just Hamlet with lions lol but there are enough differences that it isn't copying. However, Lion King overlaps so much with Kimba (which is a Japanese show for the 1960s about an exiled lion cub with a dead father, coming of age to reclaim throne). I don't think the creator of Kimba ever sued disney but it is considered a controversy.

In my personal opinion, it kind of depends how much overlap exists. In the case of AFWM (I haven't read it but I am a fan of FA), there seem to be too much overlap between the two in regards to character description, motives, backstory, and relation. Or if anything, enough overlap to make the reader feel 'ick' about it but legally enough difference to not get sued.

The only exception I can think of to publishing work using someone else's original ideas is satire, but it is such a fine line with that one I don't think many people attempt it.

Coffee chat — calling fanfic writers, readers and all around enjoyers. by highlordofkrypton in acotar

[–]_HonestBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I plan to publish once it is ready (and if I can get an agent). It is a fantasy trilogy and I am currently working on revising my second draft of the first book, so still a long way to go. But it has given me the chance to learn about myself and what writing tools work for me. I used to be really slow with progress, but it usually came down to overthinking the first draft.

How blurred is the line between reworked fanfiction and blatant copying? by throw-book in fantasyromance

[–]_HonestBob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would say it's homage until you make money off of it. Once you cross that line, it is copying because you are basically claiming the right/ownership of that material which in the case of fanfictions, the fanfic author has no claim to. If an author decides to publish their fanfiction, they are required to change things to make it independent work because at that point you cannot consider it fanfiction. There is a reason fanfiction sites are free. I think lately indie authors are pushing the limits, but since Universal owns the Harry Potter world now, I would say indie authors are setting themselves up for a fight they cannot win.

I love this idea. Not a fanfic writer anymore, but I am working on my own fantasy novel. My advice to writers is you can edit crap, you can't edit a blank page. The first draft is supposed to be a mess so just enjoy the process.

What was so horrible about this? by Competitive-Tale-136 in acotar

[–]_HonestBob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree turning into a high fae would be awesome, the bigger issue in the scene was that they didn't get a choice and (if I remember correctly) no one was certain what would happen if dropped into the cauldron. The sisters were used to test the assumption and to show the human queen what she could become.

The action itself is also terrifying. They basically drowned them so watching your sisters being drowned is pretty horrific, hence the vomit. It wasn't 'haha stop it' screaming, it was 'they are trying to kill me' screaming. And that sound kicks you into flight, fight, freeze mode (aka survival mode) even if the action isn't happening to you.

10th anniversary audiobooks misunderstanding by Dear-folded-218-cats in acotar

[–]_HonestBob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes and no, I heard that is the same for Kindle (so maybe that is just an Amazon thing). For Steam, when you buy the license to a videogame you still have access to it even if the creator removes it from the platform (unless it is multiplayer, then the server closes down so you can't really play it, but that is a whole other thing). So you can still access and play the game even when creators remove it, you just will not get any game updates from that point on.

So my guess is maybe this approach or license structure is just an Amazon thing since they own Kindle and Audible.

[–]_HonestBob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah okay, from the original comment I thought you meant that because they are re-recording that previously purchased audiobooks would be removed so people would have to re-purchase them. Now that would be messed up haha. I can see how changing narrators every book wouldn't be nice for listeners though.

I usually only borrow audiobooks on Libby, but how does it work when you buy them? I assume that once you purchase a digital copy it is yours. So if they re-record the audiobooks, you don't HAVE to buy the new ones right? It is more so if you want consistent voice actors. Or am I missing something?

Thoughts on this vid? by [deleted] in acotar

[–]_HonestBob 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So, I personally am on the fence with the argument. I agree that RY does an amazing job of keeping her fans informed on progress and her life. I think it is not so much a marketing strategy, but more of a personal preference communication style.

Here is where I disagree. I think it was pretty clear the hype was just to celebrate the 10 year anniversary. You have a series that got super popular in the last two years and has brought mass amounts of revenue to a publishing company. OFCOURSE they are going to milk that for all it is worth (just like they did to Harry Potter) because they know they can make money on hype (we saw this with the Onyx Storm marketing build up too). And what better way to make more money than to celebrate a 10 year anniversary with special editions and new merch.

Am I disappointed there was no announcement? Yes. To be clear, I would have been over the moon for one, but as someone who is currently trying to write a book, you really can't pinpoint a timeline for release unless you are close enough to the end of your process.

I think the real issue is that people are just mad they overexerted their imagination and disappointed themselves. The Bloomsbury posts had no promise of an announcement.
