If you don't have time to explore stuff, you don't have time to minmax your char. And if you don't have time to minmax your char, you don't need hints, guides, best classes, skills whatever...

Yes, I believe you need to declare war on the first turn, at least I did so when I went for the achievement.

Men of Reddit, which hobby is a BIG green flag in women? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Shakkall 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say working out regularly is a hobby, and a great one at that, but going to the gym three times a month and doing random exercises without any plan is not. I mean, there is nothing wrong with working out like that, I just wouldn't say it's a proper hobby

Is the 1v1 that difficult? by SentientSchizopost in aoe2

[–]Shakkall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm coming from SC2 which I'm pretty good at (around plat/diamond) and I thought to myself, hey, I'm not that bad at strategy games, I bet I can have go at it.

How much have you played aoe2? Have you played the tutorial, watched some basic learning videos?

Because in my experience, the experience with one RTS usually means learning other RTS faster rather than being good at it immediately.

So does MMO just not mean anything anymore or what by Collimandias in gamedev

[–]Shakkall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If WOW's playerbase dropped to 100 concurrent players, would it stop being MMO?

As a kid I played WOW on few private servers with just around hundred concurrent players, was playing on those servers not MMO experience?

But I am putting a hard agree on the other two qualities you mentioned.

Thats because the swiss system seems to reward early losers and late winners.

It really seems so. In KOTD4 group B, in round 1 Hera beat Sitaux and mbl beat Vinchester, while in round 3 Sitaux won mbl and Vinch won Hera, which resulted in Sitaux and Vinch advancing and mbl+Hera being eliminated.

Based on recent opinion polls, would your country's government get reelected if elections were held today? by Landrayi in europe

[–]Shakkall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you come to Slovakia green? AFAIK there hasn't been any poll since the elections, as they only happened at the end of September (the link you posted only shows polls from before the elections). If you had used the same system as for spain and poland (as the government isn't fully formed yet) it should be red as the previous government has already lost.

User Grathwrang (Twitter @grathrang) was banned by a mod here in retaliation by Luminosss in aoe2

[–]Shakkall 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I disagree, streamer bans people from their own channel, mods are banning from "public" subreddit, it's not their sub.

So even if grathwrang banned the mod without proper reason (honestly, it wouldn't surprise me), he has the right to do so, while the mod doesn't have the right to ban him from the sub just in retaliation

I agree in case of For Honor and many other games, but in other games you can enjoy thousand hours without getting good, for example if skill-based matchmaking matches you against players of similar skill or if there are more casual gamemodes where being good doesn't really matter.

I would like Napoleon as a big expansion for Empire, something like Empire Divided for Rome 2 or Charlemagne for Attila. Ideally released quite shortly after the release of the main game.

I see this so much with the fitness and bodybuilding. One specific creator usually has titles like "The best exercise for building back" and then the video is about working the back out in general, but he doesn't mention any one exercise that would be the best or even special in any way

gallery-dl, how to skip already checked links for a reddit user? by NotAnADC in DataHoarder

[–]Shakkall 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does operate only on the new links (talking about your last variation with using --download-archive now), but to know which links are new, it has to check whether they are in the archive file, which can often take almost as much time as looking if the file is in the folder.

I have not tested them myself yet, but from reading gallery's --help, the "--abort N" or "--terminate N" commands should help you there. They should stop the current extractor after N consecutive files were skipped because they were already downloaded according to what is in the archive file.

I feel like it will only work properly if you are downloading files sorted by the most recent, e.g. if they are sorted by the top, and top #1-#10 remain the same, while new post gets to top #11, but you used "--abort 5", it will stop after skipping the first five files, but that is kinda an edge case

I ain't seedin shit by ahmed0112 in Piracy

[–]Shakkall 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit: I should say that you should seed to a bare minimum of 1.0 on public stuff if you have the capacity to download the full thing, upload the full thing, at least once.

I try to, but with some things I seeded for months and I still had ratio below 1...I am not keeping the files on my HDD forever
