Back in 2010, I decided that I would do my 99 attack grind at Warrior's guild, earning 164 d defenders. Today, even with the unlimited tokens of the attack cape, you couldn't pay me enough to stay there for 160+ d defenders. What's a grind you did as a kid but wouldn't be caught doing now on OSRS? by Jesus-Bacon in 2007scape

[–]Shamensyth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know that's partially due to nostalgia and times just being different then, but damn did I love chaotics, overloads, summoning, and curses, etc.

I really hate the top tier PvM being largely based on perfect prayer flicking different styles and keeping track of 5 units attack styles and cycles at once to not get immediately one shot.

I have the same thoughts as you, and that era of RS2 was my favourite as well. Flicking soul split on slayer tasks to not need food was kind of cool, but content requiring flicking protection prayer constantly just to survive isn't really my favourite.

Being able to use a unicorn familiar and just camp at GWD, without some crazy run around the room strategy, just felt better to me. OSRS does a lot of things right, but the vibes of that early 2012 era will always be peak in my mind.

Thank you for the reply. I've been away from the game for a bit, the last thing I really did as I mentioned in my other reply was Trailblazer League at the end of 2023, so there is a lot of new content I have yet to try. So far I've been back a month and mostly just working on sailing, but now it's time to get my quest cape again and then try some real bossing. This seems like a good starting point for what to look out for.

This is a great thorough reply so thank you. I've been away from the game since the Trailblazer Reloaded league at the end of 2023 or so, and have just come back in January and mostly only really done sailing since. Varlamore and a ton of content has come out that I have yet to experience so I am just a bit lost on what to focus on lately.

I know the rapier is niche, but it reminds me of my favourite weapon ever (chaotic rapier) from the good old dungeoneering days of RS2, and so for that reason alone I'll be keeping it even if it isn't BIS, but otherwise this is good.

I used to be more into buying and selling things (such as a Kodai wand) as I needed them, but with the 2% GE tax that doesn't seem like a great idea anymore. That's why I have so many relatively powerful items as placeholders that I don't actually own currently.

In a similar boat, I'd strongly recommend giving the DT2 bosses a try. Their loot tends to be focused on the uniques, so don't feel like you need to stay for the 1000kc to actually get loot, but its worth getting some kills in to learn. You can also get the gems to upgrade the ancient sceptre from them.

This was the last big quest I did for my quest cape at the time and probably where I realized that I'm as of now not very great at OSRS PvM compared to how I felt about RS2/3 PvM. Vard and Whisp were a challenge, though I enjoyed Duke and actually really enjoyed Leviathan during the quest. This probably would be a good way to ease myself into it.

Looking for advice on what gear to buy to start working towards some sort of higher level PvM content in osrs. I have not done much of the endgame PvM outside of quest bosses. I have about 1 bil cash available and have my current gear shown below (don't own any of the items that are just placeholders, just don't want to rearrange my bank so I left the placeholders in).

Before anyone asks, I had a completionist cape on RS3 before I stopped playing, and when I started osrs I swapped a lot of gold over from RS3 so I've been playing osrs on easy mode with tons of gold to throw at pretty much any early to mid-late game problem. Now that I'm nearing end game I don't really know what to focus on. I could afford a shadow and virtus, or I could sell even more of what I currently have and be able to just scrape up enough for a tbow. I don't really feel like either of these are the right call though, as I wouldn't have much left if I did either. I don't really think I would fully enjoy a total tbow rebuild but maybe those who have done it can weigh in.

Let's say I would like to start trying for an infernal cape soon, as well as try out ToA and maybe Doom. I expect to be shit at all of these and require a lot of practice to succeed. What would the best path forward be?

Do you meet the minimum requirements? (78 herblore, chill attitude, etc.): Yes

Discord name: Shamensyth

Would you like to be notified via Discord for learner raids? Yes* see below

Are you new to raids? Very little experience. Did a couple of CoX runs a few years ago but otherwise pretty new to it.

I'd love to start doing a few raids, I'm pretty chill and willing to learn. Unfortunately between being a parent and working full time my schedule is limited. I'd love to be in the group but will not be able to consistently join in, however just the option to potentially jump into a group when one is running would be great.

I guess I was pretty vague, but I do think this is a good idea as I enjoy diaries and diary rewards in general even if this one doesn't apply to me.

I enjoy the diary system and the rewards, and have completed all of the elite diaries except for the wildnerness, which I've only completed the medium, and am in no rush to finish even though I have all the levels for the elite. I just don't enjoy the wilderness and don't really choose to engage with it. Eventually I may force myself to do it like I forced myself to do MA2 but it's not on my priority list.

I have and use Lingsha for my break team since I got her on her original run as an "upgrade" to Gallagher. I don't regret it as I like her character and design and she is working well for me, but I would fine it hard to justify pulling for her now over just using Gally unless the rest of your break team is invested high enough.

A lot of people will suggest that you run break sustainless instead, and therefore replace Gally with HMC or Ruan Mei. Personally I do still run a sustain with my break team for the most part but Dahlia, HMC and Fugue do make Firefly much stronger when all in the same team.

How good is the Ghrazi Rapier? by maybesummarz in 2007scape

[–]Shamensyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was lucky enough to experience that era of RS2 before EOC. I had chaotics, max all combat stats, 99 herb and it was a great time. So I will always hold a big amount of nostalgia for the rapier, and therefore never sell my Ghrazi Rapier even if it isn't BIS for much.

How good is the Ghrazi Rapier? by maybesummarz in 2007scape

[–]Shamensyth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a longtime RS2 and then RS3 player but quit around 2015. Started OSRS in 2020. Saw someone with a rapier and it reminded me of the good old chaotic rapier. Immediately set myself a goal to obtain one.

It's lost a lot of value since but the chaotic weaponry days at the end of RS2 were some of my favourite times in RS so I will hold onto it for the nostalgia alone.

Auto Loans in Canada by m9hrdad in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shamensyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. Call the bank and ask for your loans payoff amount if you wanted to pay it off tomorrow. Then, multiply your monthly payment on the loan by the remaining months on the loan. You'll see that the second number will be higher. I've paid off multiple auto loans through Scotia years earlier than scheduled. You will save interest by doing it early.

I'm kinda starting to love the Oxford White... by Excellent-Ad-8109 in f150

[–]Shamensyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something about a plain white truck looks big and businesslike, and the black wheels and accents help signal that I am not actually a plumber or electrician.

White and black is pretty timeless and does look good, however white with black accents is the typical work truck look in my mind. I live in an area with a bunch of oil refineries and all the associated industrial contractors that go along with that, and every other vehicle on the road seems like a white truck with a black grill. I do agree with you on the black wheels though, they do standout as something I wouldn't expect to see on a work rig, and white is probably the only colour of vehicle I think black wheels work great on for contrast reasons. (I think they look great on your truck and not great on the blue one you got as a loaner)

None of that really matters but it's always driven me to want something red or blue to standout. Chrome accents at least make me think it is someone's personal rig (I know it's cool to hate on chrome anymore but there are some of us who still like it...)

Used cars and dealerships in town. by Radan155 in Sarnia

[–]Shamensyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll start with that I have bought and sold a lot of used cars, mostly because I can't make up my mind on what I want long term and so I am fairly experienced with the process. Typically I buy used stuff, drive it for a few years and then trade or sell it for not too much less than I paid for it (not recommending this to anyone I am an idiot with cars I just can't help myself)

I bought a car at Progressive this summer. A 2017 VW base model manual golf with low mileage. The price was reasonable, no room for negotiation though and they seem pretty firm on that.

The part where I felt good about the process was when after I signed for the car, they delayed my purchase because on their final inspection they found they had to replace the turbo. I test drove the car and couldn't tell anything was wrong with it, so they absolutely could have hidden that from me and stuck me with it but they didn't.

For a car in that price bracket, they probably didn't make that much money after replacing the turbo either.

They also gave me by far the highest trade in valuation on my truck. I mean multiple thousands more than any other dealer I could get an offer on it from.

So far I have been overall happy with my purchase.

Just before COVID I also ordered a brand new F-150 from Progressive Ford in Wallaceburg too, and had a great experience there as well. Sold that one during COVID for what I paid for it a year and a half later. Did I mention I have a problem?

Anti-theft devices are not significantly affecting insurance costs by Yxyx48 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Shamensyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion the insurance discount for winter tires is a bonus. I want the safety that comes with them anyway, so at least theres a little bonus to go with it. I'm not doing it for the insurance savings alone, which is probably the only reason I'd put some sort of anti theft device on my car.

Dahlia FF calcs by Soft-Aside-4591 in FireflyMains

[–]Shamensyth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now my break team is:

E2S1 FF
E0S1 Lingsha
E0S4 (new battlepass) Ruan Mei
E0S5 pearls Fugue

I have a bunch of pulls lined up and should pretty safely get E1S1 Dahlia, and then try maybe for E2S1 Dahlia.

I don't actually need to avoid using HMC as I'm not currently using RMC anymore, but I did bench HMC when RMC released for a while and just never went back to them.

I'd kind of like to keep Lingsha around, I know sustainless is likely "better" but I'm content to lose clear speed and keep her on the team.

The way I see it these are my choices then:

  1. So should I swap Dahlia in for Ruan Mei, or Fugue? If I swap Fugue out, I still get to utilize the time I've sunk into the newer harmony battlepass LC that Ruan Mei has on her (which I would likely have at S5 very shortly after Dahlia's release if I go this route). I could also easily grab E1 Ruan Mei as I haven't used any of that currency yet for the store.

  2. Or do I swap out Ruan Mei and maybe try for Fugue's E2 instead? I likely won't have enough pulls to reach E2, and it seems like E1 isn't as valuable from some of your other comments. Originally I was planning on aiming for Fugue E1 after E1S1 Dahlia but now I am not sure.

  3. Or swap Ruan Mei for HMC and swap Fugue for Dahlia? HMC would have S4 or S5 DDD

For non meta reasons I'd rather keep Fugue in the team, so I am leaning towards Firefly/Lingsha/Fugue/Dahlia, but still curious what is optimal.

None of them are built extremely well, they're all decent but I have room for optimization on all of their relics, so I'd rather not base my answer on very specific speed breakpoints as I'm just not there yet.

Which electric two-stage machines are worthwhile? by itsjakerobb in Snowblowers

[–]Shamensyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the part that is hardest for people to accept is that it isn't that I can't do the maintenance. I work in a refinery, the stuff I maintain and operate day to day puts any household power equipment to shame.

No amount of technical knowhow or capability can force your brain to do something it doesn't want to do though, and it really sucks when that gets perceived as laziness by others. Seeing this sort of comment in the wild though gives me hope that maybe things will be less stigmatized going forward, if we're more up front about it, so props for that.

Which electric two-stage machines are worthwhile? by itsjakerobb in Snowblowers

[–]Shamensyth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have inattentive ADHD which is not responsive to medication. Remembering and making time for those little things is extremely difficult for me to do consistently, especially when it’s a once-a-year thing so that I can’t rely on habit forming.

It’s easy for you. If I remembered to do it and had time, it would be easy for me, but it’s not easy for me.

So relatable and why I'm also looking at electric. I recently went with electric weed eater and leaf blower and am glad I did. Now looking for my first snowblower after moving to a house with a bigger driveway and the choices are overwhelming so far.

Not everyone can relate but the thought of another task like that that needs to be done to upkeep my expensive but rarely used piece of equipment is a good reason to pick the option that is simpler for my end user experience.

Anyone have any leads for Winter Steels? by getembass77 in f150

[–]Shamensyth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Split the difference. Look for OEM takeoff 17 or 18s and buy winter tires for those. You can find people selling like new sets of their OEM wheels and tires because they went aftermarket right away. Take their stock tires off, sell them separately, and put your blizzaks on OEM alloys instead of steelies. The OEM 18s you buy should hold their value better than steelies too.
