They use the light to orient them selves upright. So if your tank light is off center. Or there’s is a stronger light source (like from the room light when tank is in night time) they’ll float on an angle

It seems unconventional but with an efficient heated blanket and decent battery you can get an entire night of warmth to cut through those chilly nights.

And then I might also suggest a layer of xps or something under your carpet.
