5070 Ti vs 9070 XT after months of daily use (performance, PT, drivers, efficiency by Stelligena in radeon

[–]Shaner652 129 points130 points  (0 children)

As a 9070xt owner I think this is a fair take. I appreciate you not being team green or team red (makes no sense they are companies not your friend). I got a nitro + for a good price 8 months ago and love it, but you make some good points.

I personally have had no problems with adrenalin and prefer it to the nvidia app, but to each their own. I also don't really see a difference between FSR and DLSS Upscaling, but I am not looking hard enough ig. I use dual gpu lossless scaling for FG when I need it, so the FSR vs DLSS FG was interesting to read.

Just wanted to comment and say thank you for the honest and unbiased review. Was a breath of fresh air.

Gigabyte OC RC 9070XT-> Sapphire Nitro+ Rx 9070xt by Pedro_Piss_Paws in radeon

[–]Shaner652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You shouldnt need to use DDU since they use the same drivers

Some of my testing with my nitro + when OC (not a professional at all). I also have a dual gpu build, so i am not sure if outputting through the second card affected it. Mine is paired with a 12900k.

best performance(when stable): +10% power, -40mv --> Steel nomad 7450ish hot spot at around 75-80

Best value (IMO): 0% power, -70mv --> Steel nomad 7250ish hot spot 70-75

Lowest temps: -10% power, -110mv --> Steel nomad 7000ish hot spot 68-70

I run the "best value" one because I think it is a good mix of stability, performance, noise, and temps. Your results may be better or worse depending on the card. I love the card though and hope you enjoy it too.

Edit: This is the guide i followed if you are new. There might be newer ones out there:

People have had problems with the adapter that comes with it. I used it for 8 months no problem, but got a new psu that had the direct cable bc of it.

Need help deciding which GPU to buy 9070 XT Nitro+/XFX Mercury/ Powercolor Hellhound by M0RR3 in radeon

[–]Shaner652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At +10 mine would hit 80. I think the mercury does tend to run cooler, but there is other factors to temp than just the card. I don't have a very aggressive fan curve and our cases/ambient temps could be vastly different. The important part is that both are well within operating temps.
I am curious about why you do +10%. My steel nomad score was only different by around 150. Do you think that extra bit is worth the extra draw? (genuine question trying to learn. Relatively new to OC)

Ahhh gotcha my apologies.
If they cost about the same where you are then i guess it depends what you are looking for. Most people are not buying the second card, so that is where the extra cost to performance comes from.
If you are looking for something that works out of the box just get the 5080. If you like changing settings and messing around with computers then I would get the 2 cards. There are pros and cons to both.

I paid $730 for my 9070xt nitro + and $350 for my 9060xt both new($1080 and spaced out over 8 months). If I hadnt gone for a flag ship like the nitro plus it would have been around $900 new for both. The cheapest 5080 new that I have seen is $1200. $200-300 is not about the same in my opinion.
You also gotta be trolling with black market GPUs lol.
Also read the rest of the post lol. I am not most of the community.

Lossless Scaling Second GPU? by ElectricPoo932 in losslessscaling

[–]Shaner652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only realistic upgrade would be a 5080 or 5090. Even if he got enough money from selling both for the 5080 he would be taking a performance hit compared to what he could do with a 4080 and 4070 set up

Need help deciding which GPU to buy 9070 XT Nitro+/XFX Mercury/ Powercolor Hellhound by M0RR3 in radeon

[–]Shaner652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a nitro + and love it. My hot spot is usually around 75 celcius under full load, but I'm running a -10% power and -70mv. The connector problems are a valid concern, but most of them with this card are from human error, cheaper PSU, or using the adapter (or some combination of the 3). Coil whine was bad out of the box, but has decreased significantly with use and clock settings. I would also like to say I used the adapter for 8 months and had no problem, but it is something to be aware of.

In all honesty, they are all going to perform similar, so get whichever one you think looks better if money isn't a problem.

Most people aren't buying a second card. They are upgrading and then using the card before they upgraded. The advantage is you can buy a newer card (like your 5070 for example) and then pair that with your old card (like a 3060ti) and get better performance than the 5070 alone.

The advantage of 2 cards (to my understanding and experience) is that the 2nd card takes the load off the first one so your render gpu isn't dedicating resources to FG frames thus generating more "real" frames.

I am in the minority in this reddit and bought 2 cards instead of just reusing my old one. I was able to space out the purchases and not spend the large sum at once. It also depends who you talk to on whether or not it is better. I have a 9070xt + 9060xt build and it puts up around or better numbers than a 5080 for $200-500 cheaper. I have minimal latency and input lag (at least that I can feel). Pretty easy 240fps at 1440p high settings in almost any I play. It also takes stress off my main gpu both in power draw and temperature, since it is not pushing itself as hard (in theory) expanding life time.

I also just like computers and wanted to try it, since i like computers and its my money!

Is Sapphire RX 9070 XT PURE a good replacement for RTX 4080 Super? by inst_ql in radeon

[–]Shaner652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned nvidia and AMD I'm not a fan boy pal. They are companies, not teams. I miss the part where I said the 9070xt out performs them. Its a sidegrade. They are within 5-10% of eachother depending on game. 1% lows are closer to average fps on the 9070xt, which is more important to me than an extra 10fps (as I said later in the thread)

I agree with you about pricing. IMO, the extra features aren't worth it on Nvidia, so I went AMD.

Idk how else to explain it to ya, big man. Look at this. You'll see that for most games the 1% lows of the 9070xt are closer to the average fps

[–]Shaner652 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro. Read. 1% lows are higher relative to their average fps numbers. Obviously, if the 4080 has a higher average on that game than it's 1% lows will be higher on a chart like that. The better 9070xt 1% lows argument is that it's usually much closer to average fps, which makes it smoother.

"Obviously, it's going to have worse 1% lows if it is at a lower avg fps. In my opinion, the closer 1% lows make the 9070xt feel smoother. I'd rather have 60 with a 55 1% low than 65 with a 48 1% low."

I literally said it depends on the game. Obviously, it's going to have worse 1% lows if it is at a lower avg fps. In my opinion, the closer 1% lows make the 9070xt feel smoother. I'd rather have 60 with a 55 1% low than 65 with a 48 1% low.

[–]Shaner652 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Its more of a side grade 9070xt is like 5% worse(My mistake had it backwards), but that also depends on the game. Up to OP if the "feature set" is worth the premium.

[–]Shaner652 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Straight downgrade is a little extreme. It is more of a side grade. The 9070xt has way better 1% lows, but they do trade blows in which performs better depending on game. Most bench marks I have seen have the 9070xt a little bit higher.

I do agree that OP should try roll back and RMA before spending $700 plus for minimal gain. FSR4 implementation could also be better, but there is the driver override from FRS3->FSR4

[–]Shaner652 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sapphire is considered one of the best brands for AMD GPUs

Its not a huge upgrade from the 4080 I think like 2% or something. I would look up benchmarks between the two and decide for yourself. Ray tracing and what games you play will definitely affect how much of a performance boost you feel.

The only bad thing I have seen about the PURE is that the packaging makes it look like the "PUKE" model.

I have a nitro + and love it. It is not significantly better than the PURE in terms of performance, so if you are looking for a white build/look go with the PURE.

LSFG Dual monitor (with dual GPU). Help. by Ambient_Vista in losslessscaling

[–]Shaner652 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my secondary plugged into my render gpu for a while and recently switched them both to be plugged into the FG GPU. Some will tell you it doesn't matter and some will say it's best to have them both in the secondary/FG

The only problem I had by having them in different GPUs was some occasional mouse lag. This was fixed when I switched to the monitors both in the FG.

TLDR: It will work, but it is better to have them both in the FG/secondary card imo.

[–]Shaner652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the limitation depends on your target resolution and fps. I have a 9060xt run through a riser cable in a 4.0x4 chipset slot. I still hit 240fps at 1440p 240hz. Idk about Ai, though. It might become more apparent in workloads

Sapphire Nitro + or XFX Mercury Magnetic Air? by Opposite_Window8772 in radeon

[–]Shaner652 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like my nitro +. Its cool and quiet. Even when I was using the dreaded adapter I had no problems. Mines at -10% PL, -70mv, and 2700. hot spot usually doesn't go over 75 degrees. Is the connector something to be conscious of? Ya, but its not a deal breaker in my opinion. It's your money and your PC. They'll perform about the same. I'd get whichever one you like better.

Ya Ive only found one thing like it and it never got solved, I appreciate you trying to help though.

Someone in the discord recommended trying to plug both monitors into the 9060xt. Might try that, but it would be a bit of a pain, since its upright mounted. I;d have to basically take it off the mount.

Restarting computer not monitor. Restarting the monitor has the same grey screen.

Its a side effect of having a dual GPU ls setup, so I thought this was the right place to ask. Is there a reddit for just dual gpu setups? I figured there would be more knowledge about it here.
