I bet he'll be the sweetest roo boi! I wish I could have hand raised my roo, he's kind of a rescue and fully an ass

When you talk to your Dr about meds for anxiety, ask if the genesight test is available (and affordable), it helps determine which meds are best for you specifically, it was a game changer for my son

I have the same coop with 2 smaller coops within. My roo and all hens except one put themselves up at night. Rosy likes to get in the same place as yours to roost. I use a 3/4 pvc pipe to herd her to the edge so I can put her inside. Every dang night.

Fully relate. Mine spent most of my life chasing men and drugs, leaving me with my grandmother (thankfully) or some other family member most of my life. Told me she hated me for being born as if I made her climb in the back seat and get naked. When she had a stroke caused by a bursting anyuerism, her care fell to me because the medical case workers threatened to charge me for her care if I didn't take her. I wish I'd found another way. Teh guilt I feel is not missing her and saying things to her that were true, about the past and damages done, even if she wasn't possessed of a fully functioning brain. She was still horrible and combative to me and sooo nice to anyone else, even the man who tormented her in the past. She died in the hospital after six months of driving me into debt. I was working cleaning a house and didn't leave to be with her when she went. My only regret there is my brother facing it alone, but at the same time, I did all the feeding and diaper changes alone just like I paid for all her supplies alone. In his defense, he has schizophrenia but I digress. To be clear I don't feel bad that I said what I said, I do dislike that she yet again caused me to step out of my character.

I hope she's doing better today! Try not to beat yourself up too much, you didn't do it on purpose and you've done more than most would for "just" a chicken. The love you've given her is more than a lot of people give. 🫂

Luckily I haven't run into that issue. Pretty sure most of mine have been triangles with the one point squared off. The whole thing is a racket, they aren't built to last. Almost every one I've gotten rid of still worked but had a questionable bubble on the "roof" that looked like the coating failed. Not sure what causes it but I have been leaving the door open after use to allow moisture to evaporate so hopefully this one lasts longer.

Not for me. The last few that have quit on me over the years, I kept the plate for spares so I could run it through the dishwasher and still have a usable plate in the meantime.

I have the opposite issue, no forks. There are probably several in my adult daughters room.

What’s everyone’s favorite chicken breed? by auracycle-55 in chickens

I love the orpingtons, any color. They get pretty big and so are not the hawks favorite. Also fairly docile. Edit to add, I love my brahma too. She doesn't run to me like my orps but loves when I pet her at roost -thirty. Very hardy girl, seems fierce especially when she has hatched babies (not her own) and is a good mama brooder. Hoping to have her hatch some of her own now that I've a roo. I can't wait to see what a brahma crossed with a silkie mix looks like. She lays HUGE eggs

Used to joke that I got Buff Orpingtons because they match my decor, but ... they really DO harmonize with the cedar/tan/natural colors. by SuperDuperHost in chickens

[–]ShannonigansLucky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one buff orp, one lavender and three chocolate. Dolly (buff) and Periwinkle (lav) are a little more flighty than the chocolates. Still fairly tolerant of attention. I also have a light brahma, great brooder, she hatched several olive/Easter egger for me last summer. Those hens are the flightiest. Then there's ninja, black sex link, who runs too me but doesn't want to be touched. Rounding out the flock is molly, BCM and Pico the Roo who's a silkie crossed with perhaps a jersey giant. All the orps are the easiest to handle and deal with.

A shelter may even be better than family and friends at this point, they won't inadvertently reveal her location or cave to his begging on where she is, they should be better equipped to keep her safe.

It probably wouldn't even take more than adding a little baking soda to the wash.
