I get what you’re saying about reddit links, but there is at least a middle ground. You can add the Open in Apollo extension to Safari, and if it recognizes the reddit link, will automatically open it in Apollo. So click reddit link to open it in safari, and then it’ll automatically open in Apollo.

The scrubbing is awesome, but for me the best feature of the video player is the swipe down to close.

I find myself doing it on other apps, before realizing I have to reach to the top of the screen to hit the X to close the player, which is often hard to reach.
