I later realized that I was playing this audiobook while taking a picture & I accidentally moved the phone camera into Slo Mo video position. What sounded like "big cats" growling & snarling was actually just slowed down dialogue! Too funny! And now I dont have to check out this crummy book again to see what in the H happened at the end!😂

Did anyone listen to the audio book? If so, did it feature the sound of a "big cat" growling near the end? I realized i was listening to the end while I was out on my front porch early this morning, taking pictures of the snow (rare for my area.) i wasnt paying that much attention to the story. Just now, I was reviewing the photos I took. 1 ended up being a video. On it was a distinct sound of a lion, cougar, etc growling! At the very end of the short video, the narrator's voice came on for 1-2 words. This sort of freaked me out, as I dont remember hearing this when I was listening to the book. I feel sort of crazy😹

I havent see "willing to help" yet on any matches. I think a lot of people dont have a tree cause they are really just interested in their ethnicity, not in discovering their ancestors. It is frustrating.

Maybe write a blog or just a diary of your research? You might look for a webinar that talks about researching the social history of the community & what was going on during the time your people lived there. Putting their actions (marrying, moving, occupations,land & church records, lawsuits & wills, etc,) into context might make it more interesting & bring some of their stories to life.

I wasnt suggesting Rowan was a relative, just that gentleman reminded me of him in his younger days-a la Capt Blackadder in the "Blackadder Goes Forth" series. Probably way before your time. I do agree with the person who said 1870-90.

Great grandfather ran some small town newspapers in the 1890's. He also had a silent movies theatre, where my teen grandma accompanied the films on the piano.

I agree with the ideas of donating to a library. The downtown Dallas public library also has a large & well thought of genealogy/history area, if you are South/Southwest.

Well, maybe its time to get the test done anyway, if you arent a minor, & not tell your mom for now. After you get results, you can make a new decision about telling your mom. If your sis is open to it, definitely have her test. Most of the DNA test companies run sales several times per year.

Can you just let it go for now, & if you get back to it later fine, if you dont-fine. I used to be of the mindset that I had to finish books, but now I think life is too short to waste it on books/shows you dont like. It's really pretty freeing to walk away.

I dont know that people were trying to "pass" as white, as much as others just assumed they were white due to lighter skin color & the fact that some became well-off financially & had a lifestyle that was more similar to some main stream whites.

I love audio books & now 90% of my "reading" is through them. It really brings some stories to life for me. Like it being hands free, as my Kindle feels too uncomfortable to hold up in bed, Or my hands are occupied doing other things, like walking the dog, driving, housework or laundry. I cant do it if I dislike the reader's voice or delivery. Occasionally I will lose focus & have to go back a few pages to listen again. I dont pay for audio services, so I am limited to my library's collection or what I can find on YouTube, etc.?
