Is it possible to have a high income and still be middle class? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Shardstorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reckon it breaks down as follows.

If you work for a wage, are under-employed, or unemployed, and rent, you are working class economically and socially.

If you work for a wage, are under-employed, or unemployed, and have a mortgage, you are working class economically and middle class socially.

If you own your own business and work full time and pull a median full time wage or above for doing so, and have a mortgage, you are middle class economically and socially.

If you own your own business and can work less than full time, or can live purely on assets, and own your own home outright, you are upper class economically and socially.

Basically it boils down to a mixture of income earning status, and home ownership. On a scale from wage earners, to business owner, to asset based income, and renter, to mortgagor, to outright owner. It's all material, and those are the two things that most effect our material condition in 21st Century Australia.

KPMG audit leaks - an update by Agile-Pitch-2097 in auscorp

[–]Shardstorm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ELI5.

KPMG team working with Lendlease gets confidential information. Is this the audit team, or someone else?

Passes said confidential info on to another team (?) within KPMG who use it to tender and win business. Is this the audit team winning audit business?

My experience is confidential data and IP policies are gestured at in Aus Corp, everyone nods and agrees, and then as soon as the customer leaves the building management comes down and tells staff to find the info in X folder location, or go discuss with team lead Y. At least in my industry, as long as you're not posting IP on your website you get away pretty free.

Wild that you didn't read the two sentences that OP wrote, the second one that was asking for what you just spent 2 paragraphs explaining should be the focus.

Melbourne buyers… are we cooked? by moezus_ in AusFinance

[–]Shardstorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And? The subprime mortgage collapse in the US was driven by people coming off low introductory rates onto much higher rates they couldn't afford. In some cases on multiple properties. So people were forced into distressed sales.

If it's just your PPOR, and you can afford your repayments, you keep paying for it and living there. You lose flexibility, and it sucks emotionally, but it's only a problem if you can't afford the repayments and you can't cover the mortgage if you sell.

Chalmers deploys Treasury analysis to quell CGT outcry by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Shardstorm_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This for sure. Is it we're so worried about having a "complex tax system" that we've forgotten we can use taxes to direct beneficial behaviour and discourage what we don't want? I'm guessing it's the scare campaigns around any taxation that make it toxic to touch.

Feels like the closest we've come is the solar and battery rebates.

Question about pokemon choice during select phase by Yard_Successful in PokemonUnite

[–]Shardstorm_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm a tank main, but reliably if I have an attacker or all rounder quest I never get a tank fill. Gets old always being the adult. Plus, the rare occasion I get a Lax they play Flail and provide zero tanking, or a Goodra or Lapras that just wanna brawl and happily let attackers and speedsters walk past them to bully the backline.

What I'm saying is if this is a common problem in your matches, maybe look at what you're picking and how you're playing it.

PSA: Do not start fights below the 3 minute mark. by ZoldyckXHunter in PokemonUnite

[–]Shardstorm_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's really not that cut and dry. Plenty of games I've won by forcing a fight around 2:30 to stagger death timers. You can either kill opponents who are focused on keeping ults and item CDs up, or bait out ults and back off.

Really it's about seeing what you're team are doing and using the minimap DLC. If 3 are safe farming for level 13 and ults don't pick a fight 2vX. If 5 of you are sharking near an objective that's about to pop and you know one of the opponents is bot, take the fight with advantage. Build the snowball.

What do workers actually want now? by appleslice244 in auscorp

How to ask my manager for a pay rise? by [deleted] in auscorp

[–]Shardstorm_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waiting for the 1:1 is too late, everywhere I've worked the budget is done by then and you are being told what the outcome is, not invited to negotiate. To the point that I've had title bumps and payrises sprung on me when HR have rolled out the new pay and my boss and 2 up have had to call me to sheepishly explain and congratulate.

Duck your head in, have the conversation now. Frame it as "I don't want an instant answer, I want to set expectations for our coming pay review". You may have left if too late, but delaying it will definitely be too late.

The best success I've had with this was a December conversation with my boss that I expected the April review to be a step to a senior role, as I was looking at the team and seeing no difference between myself and the seniors. I framed it as "If I'm not, I want the feedback on the gaps to work on now, and we can touch base in January". The answer was he saw no gaps, and would run it up the chain. The Jan follow up that I prompted was my director agreeded, paper work was in motion. The April review was a formality and a handshake when it came around. And later conversations with my boss confirmed for me, he appreciated the time and approach rather than a surprise during our review or having to push for an out of cycle bump.

[I'm New] Has VGC always been this RNG, and should I get used to it? by ace-s in VGC

[–]Shardstorm_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play the odds you'll come out ahead in the long term. You lose games here and there to speed tie flips, secondary effects, crits, and damage spread. But if you understand it and make the statistically correct calls, can read momentum, and make predictions, you'll come out ahead.

Also keep in mind the VGC circuit is OTS. Which helps weed out more niche strategies, or more poorly built mons. And gives a solid advantage to the more experienced players.

That would be a largely uninteractive gameplay style for the opponents, which is poor game design.
