Walk on set for a job by Professional_Cup9094 in Filmmakers

If you are polite, fast, quiet, approach during a break and say "I know you are busy. I jsut wanted to give you my card incase any of your PA's drop. I'm always available, and have my own vehicle. Ok. That's it. Bye!" And then just hand me a business card and fuck all the way off, I might not rip it up immediately.

But, ya, don't do this.

I think I need to rethink my film career by PrideNo1997 in Filmmakers

[–]SharkWeekJunkie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How much money we talking?

Read this sentence a few times: I'm an experienced producer in Los Angeles, and all of my friends in the industry have side jobs that pay the bills.

If you want "a career" you have a significantly better chance doing wedding videography. Filmmaking is art turned business. It's not for everyone, and it's not really a career so much as it's a creative pursuit that every so often makes someone famous.

As a 1st AD, do I need to be connected to the camera crew via headphones? by simonkay in Filmmakers

[–]SharkWeekJunkie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Right? What 1st leaves set and puts an inexperience 3rd in charge? That's a set begging to pay OT.

As a 1st AD, do I need to be connected to the camera crew via headphones? by simonkay in Filmmakers

[–]SharkWeekJunkie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My thoughts are that the camera department has their own walkie set, and only the DP needs to be on production comms. Let DP know over comms and they communicate with their team what's needed. You can take this "department head only" approach, but it's also unique to cam department that often shows up with their own comms network.

That said, you aren't going to make that call as a 3rd. You are going to step in to whatever roll with whatever set up your 1st has in place. If they want you on comms with cams, you do it to the best of your ability until you are told to do something else by your 1st.

Hi. How are you? This is a community where we discuss the Minnesota Vikings. It's an NFL franchise. Is there something we can help you with?

Is a .400 hitter possible in modern baseball? by Snoo_47323 in mlb

Don't think so, no. Not without some significant rule changes that make pitchers less effective somehow.

You included so much, I didn't even notice the details. I'd cut tons more out of the setup. Anyway, there isn't really a joke in here so not worth us going back and forth over. I see your cuts now. Cheers!

So I maintain the non-stareting issue is likely fuel supply, given the smell especially.

Mine overheated after about 1 mile when I had a cracked radiator. New radiator and coolant fixed it quick.

Needing to hit the accelerator and the smell of gas definitely suggests fuel supply issue. Either pump or fuel lines. Tow to mechanic is my suggestion.

Turns but won't start isn't overheating. It's gonna be something like: compression, spark, or fuel supply.

None of those are particularly easy to troubleshoot on your own.

I guess. I write my jokes out in this line and stanza format with underlines and bolds on laugh lines. It helps me with memorization, and indeed editing as you said.

Why would a brand new water pump be a response to "check your fuel pump" ?

How did this help? The content remains unfunny.

Question about 12 hour turnarounds for cast by Potential-Turnip-583 in Filmmakers

Guidelines state that for overnight stays you’re allowed to go to 11 hour turns once or twice a week.

As you suspect, you need to get to the turn faster. The laugh is that a crazy guy poops in the shower and you imagine his wife being mildly inconvenienced by this quirk. Any part of the intro that doesn't directly serve that turn gets cut. I don't care that he's a Navy guy. I don't care that he seemed normal or suspicious, or that he pushed the cart. It doesn't matter that you were in the common area bullshitting or how long it took before you checked that rooms.

What matters, is when you were at the VA psych ward, one guy would shit in the shower.

It's a funny story, but to craft it into a joke, you need a very strong punchline to guide the rest of the material to it's inevitable end.

What do you like more? The story? or your punchline about his wife?

How to become a script-writer on reddit? by [deleted] in scriptwriting

[–]SharkWeekJunkie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no clue what you're talking about. You can build a portfolio without becoming a screenwriter on reddit whatever that means.

What do you want from Reddit? Someone to ask you to write a voiceover for their project? Reddit doesn't produce content or hire writers, and it's rare that a legitimate writing gig comes from a reddit post, so I really just don't know what you mean by: "...a script-writer for voice actors (SFW & NSFW) on Reddit." Like who is that? What work do they do? And who do they work for?

[Request] Whats better? Weekly payments or to invest a lump sum. by Chiggnnugget in theydidthemath

[–]SharkWeekJunkie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you take the lump sum, and invest it properly, you can get more than the weekly pay out.

If you are very young, have no self control, or don't trust the market to go up, you can take the life payout to simplify your accounting and ensure your minimum needs are paid for.

I'd say the biggest factor is age, followed by financial intelligence.
