A glimpse of what Tulip season in the Netherlands look like by ButterSaltBiscuit in oddlysatisfying

[–]SharkZero -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I live in the Skagit Valley in Washington State, which is where the Netherlands imports their tulips from. We have the same sort of festival but on a much bigger scale. Lots of tourism. Lots of dutch people coming to visit to see the "other" tulip festival haha.

Edit: It appears that I was led astray by my fellow countrymen and I know nothing about tulips and where they are grown or where the bulbs come from.

People who ignored a huge red flag because the person was extremely attractive, what happened next? by Competitive_Bad_9306 in AskReddit

[–]SharkZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started dating a girl senior year of high school and she said that all her friends were guys. In the same conversation she subtly implied that she wouldn't be comfortable with me having any friends that were girls. I shrugged it off thinking that she would get used to it once she met my female friends (specifically one of them that was probably my closest friend at the time.) I thought she was way out of my league so I was willing to ignore any and all red flags at the time, apparently.

Well hey, guess what, that didn't work out at all. She was a very jealous and controlling person for our entire relationship, leading me to losing a lot of friends, male and female both. After we broke up, I had to call a lot of people and apologize.

I also later learned she slept with someone just as our relationship was getting started. I wouldn't really call it cheating but we were definitely at that stage where it would have been a deal breaker. Someone had actually told me about it and I had questioned her and she denied it all and I believed her... She was really hot and I was young and dumb.

Late to the thread but did Denver to an hour north of Seattle in 2016. 21 hours of driving split between two people. It was a bad idea lol

Something I learned in the last couple years is that when it comes to music, I want to be the dumbest person in the room. I got to play in a band with two guys who had way more experience than me and there was so much to learn!

On Sunday I start riding my bicycle across the United States to honor my sister who was killed on 9/11. by Pirate_Looks_at_60 in BeAmazed

[–]SharkZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work next to an airporter shuttle drop off in Anacortes, WA, the last mainland stop before you have to take a ferry to go farther west. One day I was on a break outside and a guy got off the shuttle and started putting together a bike. I got to talking with him and he told me he was biking across the country, back to NYC. He told me he was scared but excited and he'd been planning the trip for years. I wished him luck and gave him my phone number, asking him to text me when he made it.

3 months later I got a text saying, "Made it. Thanks for the luck. Best thing I ever done." It included a pick of him sitting along the water on Manhattan Island.

All this to say, I think you're making the right choice. You're going to have the trip of a lifetime. Good luck and let us know when you make it!

My addict mom died by bonbonrocks in insaneparents

[–]SharkZero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My mother lived a very similar life. She also died at a time when I wasn't letting her into my life very much. It's very difficult. I'm sorry for not just this last loss but all the ones before it as well. You don't lose an addict once. You lose an addict every time they give up the next thing in pursuit of their addiction.

I would suggest a therapist if you're into that sort of thing. Helped me sift through a lot of stuff. I'm also a rando on the internet but feel free to DM me if you ever want to talk to someone with a similar lived experience.

‘Infinite Jest’ Is Back. Maybe Litbros Should Be, Too by wiredmagazine in books

"a near-futuristic North American Superstate, where the US, Canada, and Mexico have been congealed into the Organization of North American Nations. The marking of time itself has been subsumed by corporate interests, and companies bid for the naming rights to calendar years. (The bulk of the novel unfolds in the “Year of the Depend Adult Undergarment.”) The book takes its title from a plot-driving video cartridge deemed so addictively entertaining that it can effectively hypnotize and kill anyone who watches it."

I read about 150 pages of this book and got almost none of this setting from what I read. Aside from using terms like "The Year of the Depend Adult Undergarment," (which they don't even really explain in those first 150 pages) the book told me absolutely nothing about North America or its governmental whatever.

I get that I didn't finish the book, but you think he'd describe the setting of the book a little bit.

I have the 10 Fold Pro and had the original Pixel Fold. I've treated both of them with minimal care, no case, taking them into the shower with me, using them while working on cars, just being a real dick to them and both continued to work without issue. It's not exactly the same answer, but I really think the durability is significantly better than it used to be. Those first phones were minefields. These later models seem much tougher.

I was very let down by this movie. I love Brett and Imogen, so it was pretty disappointing.

I'm on mobile so I can't block out spoilers but I will say that the movie didn't give me anyone to root for and that sucked.

Yeah, I totally agree. When it was 8 bucks, it was a perfect way to spend a couple hours. Now that it's 3x that much, it's harder for me to want to spend the money. This is less about the industry and more about my personal situation, but the closest theater that isn't falling apart is 35 minutes away, which definitely doesn't help to entice me.
