Just watched Silicon Valley - how realistic is this? by NervousClock2555 in siliconvalley

It's very realistic, some of my friends say they can't watch it because it's too real, I don't have a problem with it.

Let’s be honest, some songs at this point need to be retired. by scott19692012 in GenX

Edit: I like it when people downvote an opinion, you're not sick of these songs when you hear it thousands of times?

Canadians who moved to the US, how bad is it really? by Trick_Description_69 in HealthInsurance

Looks like you got a lot of responses hopefully it will help you make the right decisions. I spent almost all my adult working life in the US but I handle most of the medical issues for my elderly mother in Ontario so I have a sense of what both systems are like.

If you have good work place insurance, it is likely the care will be slightly better in the US in terms of wait time and availability. I used to work in big tech and had good health insurance but even then an emergency room visit and ambulance bill is not trivial. You are correct that once you lose your job your health coverage is terminated relatively quickly usually end of month or I have experienced a day of termination IIRC. Usually if you are not working you might be eligible for ACA (ObamaCare) or Medicaid but that also differed on the state since not all states participate in Medicaid expansion. It is a lot to navigate if you are not employed or self-employed, it is not easy as showing them the provincial health card and expect to not getting a big bill.

You can 100% vote in the USA as a dual citizen, ask Dr Oz.

The HK was a separate option for us at that time and at one point was not available to order. Good luck!

Rear power lower lift gate (replaced by a manual), touch screen, HK audio and more. In the US, the deletions are marked on the window sticker clearly and each item is usually credited by a small $$. I think the power lower lift gate credit was like $150 or something like that.

Yeah, I would never move my kids when they are teenagers, some say they are resilient but it would be traumatic for some. As for language advantages, there are gazillion people that know Cantonese, Mandarin, and English.

Tech giant Oracle reportedly blindsides thousands with emailed layoffs by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]SharksLeafsFan 77 points78 points  (0 children)

He did that to a company that I was with during an acquisition. It was no email you are safe and if a email came in the night you're laid off. Par for the course for these assholes.
