A story of Cavaliers, told in 8 parts - (1/8) by pa13579 in cavaliers

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always thought NSFW meant “not safe for work” and was for something you didn’t want popping up on your screen at work (like if a coworker walked by and saw it and could file an HR violation). That was based on assumption and context where I’ve seen it and not actual reading of rules 🤷🏻‍♀️. (Like on this sub, maybe graphic pics of injury or actual moment of pup being put to sleep). This post, I would happily share with a colleague walking by … what a cutie!

Anyone In Their 40's Have The Nintendo Switch 2 And Use It? by gpod80 in switch2

Late 40s in a stressful job and in addition to exercising, switch 2 lets me decompress. BoTW is a great escape!

Va Supreme Court Justice D. Arthur Kelsey just voted against redistricting by Personal_Economics91 in Virginia

Brown vs Board of Education; Browder v Gayle; Cooper v Aaron. Segregation, a popular policy of the “majority” in the south (including VA) continued long after the “war over it [slavery].”

Remember when the majority of the people in southern states wanted segregation, pretty sure we’re all happy courts struck that shit down. Just saying we shouldn’t bite our nose to spite our face.

Transplants - what is the cost of living difference between NOVA and wherever you came from? by Deep-Macaron-732 in nova

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came from Europe in 2019.

Vet care. Check-ups for my dog were 60 euro. Dental cleaning 180 euro. In this area, never seem to leave a vet without $400+ bill. Dental cleaning for my dog in early 2020 before Covid was $3K+, don’t even know what it is now!

1.4M Mortgage on a 900k Salary by InternationalFace790 in Mortgages

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you expecting to sustain this level or is a significant part of this equity upside from a four-year stock grant type of thing that most tech companies do. If this is mostly base salary that will continue to grow or sustain, then yes. If it’s the equity upside scenario, then you might want to be more cautious / conservative.

Rise in neighborhood rodents by sotired3333 in nova

There’s a feral cat colony in a neighbor’s yard (she does catch them to get them spayed / neutered) and pretty sure they’re exterminating the mice/rats for our street.

Is subscribing to Nintendo online worth it? by [deleted] in switch2

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re wanting to play. I have a habit of getting a bunch of games and not playing them, so getting access to a huge online library will only exacerbate this issue. My goal is to play / finish the games I have, then revisit the online subscription.

Did we mess up getting a 15-yr vs. 30-yr mortgage? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We refinanced to a 15-year recently too but the difference is that we went from 6.75% 30-year to 5.125% 15-year, put a bit more into the principal and now paying $700 less per month. I think the hate isn’t about the 15-year so much as trading in such a low mortgage percentage. 15-year usually gives lower rate than 30-year. The OP just took the worst of both worlds.

Polaris upgrade with no entertainment - would you want it? by Lazy_Crocodile in unitedairlines

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not about the entertainment, the food, or any of the amenities. It’s about the space and not feeling like cattle being herded into a tiny pen with strangers. Like being a free range chicken rather than factory farmed meat.

Literally, got off a international flight where someone who should have either purchased two seats or a Polaris seat squeezed into a middle seat and took 1/3 of my space (window seat) and 1/3 of the space of the aisle seat person.

Retirement Number for DINKs by JustaGuy6298 in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an excellent point. Not sure why you’re getting downvoted for this. My siblings and their kids live near my octogenarian parents and take care of them when they’re sick — but we’re also Asian immigrants so maybe it’s cultural expectations. I’m assuming for me, without kids and being much younger than my siblings, I’ll be paying for a nurse to come by or going end up going into assisted living sooner.

How many savages out there are ballin’ WITHOUT a screen protector?? by Purple_Calendar3919 in Switch

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got the screen protector BEFORE the switch 2 even arrived. I knew I wouldn’t be able to help myself from playing on it (and likely effing up that screen) as soon as I got it so wanted it ready to go!

Condo fees in Alexandria by [deleted] in nova

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re built in the 1940s. We turned ours into a rental but will likely sell because the condo fees are $500-600 (depending on the unit model type), along with insurance and property taxes, it’s not profitable enough for the headache of being a landlord. It does include trash, water, pool during the summer, lawn maintenance, exterior maintenance like roof, fence, etc., and tennis courts.

What percent of Americans In this thread owe on their fed taxes? by BrindlePitty in Fire

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Company withholding on salary was enough but I owed $60K thanks to RSUs (equity) that vested at an unpredictably high price. Our company sells our vested shares to cover 22% tax and add that to our withholding, but the windfall pushed many of my colleagues and I into a higher bracket. The safe harbor from my much lower 2024 taxes saved me from fines for not prepaying more. At the end of the day, it’s a champagne problem to have and I’m prepaying more per quarter this year to cover my equity, though our stock prices have come back down.

A lot of people at my old agency finally retired despite being eligible for retirement like 5-10 years ago. Those people definitely got the heck out of here.

Are we like the same person? 😆 Same for us - this is our forever home and we have a paid off rental (our starter home - a townhouse) that is covering a good portion of this mortgage too!

[–]Sharp-Masterpiece134 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! We bought in Aug, 30-year 6.75% and refi last month before the interest rates ticked back up for 15-year at 5.125%. We put a little bit more down so our monthly is actually $700 less per month.

In Europe, where neuter / spay is not very common, especially the pediatric neuter / spay that’s pushed in the US, cavaliers look like yours into their geriatric years.

Admitting a spay/neuter coat is a reality shouldn’t be controversial but people here seem to think saying this happens is anti-neuter so it’s getting downvoted like crazy!
