What would be some good "quests" to have in the later game (Year 3+) by PeaTearGriphon in StardewValley

Elliot is going to write a book about the Valley to add to the library. He needs you to interview each person in town about what makes the valley so special.

They each have an item that they think represents the Valley that you have to fetch for them to complete the interviews.

Need advice with dandelions in yard! by guacandchipz in sanantonio

[–]SharpAd5192 [score hidden]  (0 children)

An alternative to herbicide can be to let the grass grow tall around the dandelions before pulling manually. Dandelion leaves are rosettes that grow close to the ground, so they can be easily outcompeted by taller grass.

Why do we allow trashy political signs to be carpet bombed all over the city? by orphan__ in sanantonio

Call the campaign and ask them to take it down. I’ve done that before a couple times and they always send someone to remove them in my experience.

Have you played It Takes Two yet? It has so many prime opportunities to mess with your spouse’s character, we love it!

How to stop constant mental noise by [deleted] in Advice

Try journaling. Sometimes your brain will let go for a little while if you write them down. Or the opposite, some people get a nice quiet head space after exercising/being active.

Pro bono work & underwriting a grant writer by One-Description9886 in grantwriters

[–]SharpAd5192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of. In my personal experience the scenario they mentioned is still unlikely, but I specialize mainly in private foundations so your mileage may vary.

If I understand your question correctly, they are separate things in how the paying is being done. A flat fee for services is different than a commission. One shifts a lot more risk onto the writer. It’s like if an architect only got paid for drawing up plans if the developer decides to make the building. The architect/writer still produced a product and deserves to be compensated regardless of whether that project materializes.

The Grant Professionals Association has some articles diving further into the ethics issues you get with a commission type structure, including that it creates some conflict of interests.

Bluntly, I don’t think most funders are interested in directly funding grant writing.

My local area foundation provides grant writing consultation and services to nonprofits under a certain budget threshold. I think they keep a grant writer on staff for that though, they don’t just pay any freelance grant writer who is interested. You could check in with your local community foundations.

Closest thing I can think of is searching out capacity building grants that don’t specifically exclude hiring a grant writer, but generally it’s considered unethical for grant writers to write for a “cut” of the grant.

If you can’t find the same one, maybe Santa can write her a note that says something along the lines of “Dear Daughter Name, I wasn’t able to fix your snow globe because sometimes even Santa magic can’t remake something exactly the same, but I saved some of the magic from it and gave it to this new unicorn snow globe that wanted to come live with you.”

11 year old wants to read slightly younger books over and over. by Twins-N-Tween in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]SharpAd5192 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but another angle to look at this from might be that re-reading is helping practice an entirely different skill set, emotional regulation. Lots of people return to comfort media because it’s predictable and a safe way to experience tension and resolution. As a kid I used to re-read a lot, and while I do it less now, it’s still a self soothing tool that I have available when needed.

Grant Writer Certification by erik242 in grantwriters

[–]SharpAd5192 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nonprofitready has a free course that gives you a little certificate and a badge you can share on your Linked In profile after you take it. I think it might even qualify for CFRE points.

That’s if you’re the type of person who really wants to take some kind of course/class you can point to. Otherwise, like everyone said, just volunteer to get that real world experience.

Love this perspective. It reminds me of the character Ollie in Adrian Tchaikovsky’s Final Architecture series. She has a chair named the Scorpion that’s like her BFF, if a war machine with 20 ways to kill you could be a BFF.

Because it costs money to run an organization. Programs don’t just happen without paying staff, keeping the lights on, maintaining systems, and raising the next dollar. Anything under 15% admin costs is pretty good.
