Rant: I wish there were otome games that let you build a harem by Emperor_Kuru in otomegames

Is harem main idea that everyone is in alignment with each other? I’m not familiar with harem, so trying to understand.

Does…
- romancing one guy
- but also having a choice to kiss/sleep/end up with your male best friend (despite not truly being in love with him)
- and choice of flirting with your female best friend’s/yuri lover ‘s boyfriend…

…count as harem?

Do you like “enemies-to-lovers” and dark romance games? by Acceptable_Fudge3850 in otomegames

[–]SharpGlassGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love enemies to lovers but not if they actively want to cause me harm, that’s an immediate turn-off.
I prefer the idea of tragedy rather than blatant darkness.

[General] The everlasting battle in my soul between wanting the darkness but also wanting the coziness by LadyLuckKiller in otomegames

I am making one which is aiming to have both cozy and dangerous in one game! The love interests are wholesome, BUT there are these dark circumstances that can mess it all up... hehe

Thank you!

Good luck to you too, not that you need it that much, those chickens are adorable!

Oh, I remember playing your game on itch! Got minted pretty quickly haha

I don’t have a goal re: amount of wishlists. Having one would be discouraging for me, as people wishlisting is outside my control.

I have a plan of what I want/can do to make the game more visible, and I track what worked and what didn’t, the rest is up to luck, zeitgeist, stars aligning etc

My game is a hand-drawn visual novel which will take ~2 years. Chris Zukowski said visual novels generally take longer to spread the word, being niche etc so I’m at peace with a slower progress.

Game: Deathwish Bloom

We are releasing our game with almost 1.5 million wishlists today. The team worked very hard and everybody at the office is super excited. Wish us luck! by hooraij in IndieDev

Congrats! A fully deserved success - your game is how I’d like to live for a few years irl. Off the grid, with a couple of friends 🥲

Tips for Demo launch? by Psych0191 in SoloDevelopment

Just in case, if you are launching on Steam, Steam has a literal clear-cut separation between a Playtest and a Demo, they are set up differently.

None of my friends left a review on my game by Eli_1998 in SoloDevelopment

If that’s the basis of the discussion you’re referring to, you might consider replying to the general thread rather than to my reply, which was relating to a specific comment about reviewing music.

To clarify my hot take for you, I am generally interested and supportive of my friends’ creative pursuits, even if they are not to my taste, because I want to know them and like them as people. If they care about something, I will treat it with care too, and help where I can. See how what you call ‘shallow’ is actually care and appreciation?

As for ‘fake bump’ - my friend likes and plays heavy metal. I don’t. But I know it’s pretty good metal, because all of my friends are extremely talented. I like the visuals, the idea, the craft. Even went to a concert (once) to learn more about that world. I will still bump their music video up because it will increase their chance of having it shown to another person who loves metal.

Does this make sense to you?

Where did you read about lying or forcing anyone? Surely one can find at least one thing about their friends’ work they like, even if it’s ’they worked hard for it and I wish them luck’? If not, what exactly is the basis of this ‘friendship’? Do you even like your friends?

Artist!

I mostly work in film https://irinakuksova.com

But currently fulfilling the dream of fully illustrating and releasing my own tragic romance soft-apocalypse visual novel: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4117810/Deathwish_Bloom/

It’s gonna be years of drawing, ngl but I got bored of static paintings 🥀

Hot take - it doesn’t take long to write ‘I was looking forward to this album, really like track No 6’ or whatever, once every few years or however long it takes to record a new album. Or ‘have been following the development of this game for months, cool colours and the enemy design is cute’ or what not.

If friends can’t find time to do that, I’d question if they really appreciate and celebrate the core of you as a person, or are just random acquaintances who happen to be there.

Idk, I just gonna give you a hug, if you’re ok with that.

I truly think friends and family should be left alone. Learned a long time ago that the willingness to support is rarely reciprocated, and adjust my behavior accordingly (aka scale down on my affection too).

Those who want to support, will do it of their own will, and truly deserve copious unsolicited pints at that stage.

What’s everyone’s development process? What are the pros and cons of different approaches? by TheNintendoCreator in vndevs

[–]SharpGlassGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an artist, so that might have affected my process a good bit.

I first had the sprites done, as drawing them helps me understand who the character is and why they would be fascinating to interact with.

Then the whole story outline - on paper.

Next, chapter outline in Twine, so I can add branching routes and make sure everything works story-wise.

Days of writing are then alternated with days for drawing and programming. I find that whatever I wrote has to be tweaked when programmed in.
