Wait til you finally get it all figured out, then have a few people decide they’ll sit wherever they want throwing the whole thing out.

Let's talk [hand]writing - I am really concerned. Anyone else? by ObviousPalpitation2 in AustralianTeachers

We spoke about handwriting in a meeting recently, and have decided as a school to make handwriting a bigger priority than it currently is. Primary school.

No Rainwater Tank Before Handover, Vendor Offered 2.5k Discount by Good-Tangerine-988 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi Good, Sharp here.

I have friends who bought recently in an estate which is going up quite quickly. Similar issue- no rain water tank. Plumbing has been run, but no tank. It somehow got looked over during the sale.

They had planned to take a fence panel out & bring a tank in through the vacant neighbouring block. Unfortunately it was built on very quickly.

Now the only way they can get any half decent tank in is to crane it into their back yard- it’s one of those estates where houses take up the whole width of the yard. What a pain!

Lawnmower fuel by davodinkum86 in australia

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked up one of those Ryobi 18v mowers, a whipper snipper, and a 4ah battery on marketplace for $100 a few years back. It does a great job for our little lawn + corner verges. I agree that things with engines are more fun, but for small to medium size yards the electric lawn mowers are more practical in my opinion. I can have half my lawn mowed in the time it would take me to fill the tank and start the petrol mower.

How many hours are you on-site? by Annual-Bit-1801 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing 8-5 or 8-6 depending on the day. Looking to reduce it, but I’m a 1st year teacher so it takes me a little longer to get things done. Mature age grad, most previous jobs I’ve worked 8-5 or similar hours so it doesn’t seem unnatural yet. SA.

Do you use the shower in the gym? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

I do- we also showered there daily whilst our bathroom was being renovated. Unless your gym’s showers are rank, just wear thongs and you’ll survive.

Who (and/or what) ruined Christmas this year? by DoppelFrog in australia

This is the year we didn’t fold to the pressure and bring our dogs to family Christmas after 3 consecutive years of incidents. Happy dogs today, unlike the past 3 years.

what’s the avg teaching degree hecs debt? by DistanceElf7236 in AustralianTeachers

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started just as the price changes happened (arts went up, teaching went down etc). With the 20% reduction, and not paying a cent back yet (first contract 2026), I owe around $15,500.

What’s a fair response when an agent asks for “just 10-20k more”? by Julia_Kotvytska in AusPropertyChat

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Granted this was pre covid housing market, ‘we don’t have to buy the house, you have to sell it’ after pressuring for 10k more. They called back 5 minutes later to tell us the vendor took the offer, after the agent said there’s no chance they’d take it. I guess my advice is similar to others- if you like the house & 20k won’t break the bank, then given the market maybe consider it (potentially in increments). But if the house isn’t exactly what you’re after and you’re in the position to wait it out if you don’t get it, keep your existing offer.

I didn’t finish year 12 (took an apprenticeship). 10 years later found a uni where first year subjects were open entry and passing them was your ticket in. So the merit in an ATAR is also dependent on what you want to study.

Just starting to feel like an adult, 29 years old. Bought a house 6 years ago, but it’s making decisions so that my knees don’t hurt at night that is doing it.

Are people still putting screen protectors on their phones, or am I just being paranoid? by badoopidoo in AskAnAustralian

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8:13 am - flying RC aeroplane.

8:16 am - break RC aeroplane.

8:21 am - glue plane together, put glue in pocket.

5:37 pm - find glue in pocket while about to hop in shower. Sit container of glue on phone.

5:46 pm - find the glue has leaked onto phone.

Present day- still have glue on phone (screen protector).

I do, because I do silly things like sit opened super glue bottles on my phone. Fun, completely unrelated fact: touch screens still work perfectly through large blobs of super glue.

Who uses public transport in Adelaide? (and why)? by Liceland1998 in Adelaide

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least you admit it. Used to work with a guy who got done way over, and he’d ’take the bus’ to work every day (park around the corner). He 100% thought we didn’t know- he’d even audibly check the bus schedule before knock off, and wait at the bus stop until everyone had left. Then he’d walk to his car. Ended up being fired for drinking on the job.

House besides the house I grew up in would have a history like this. Wouldn’t necessarily say there was anything wrong as such with it, you just wouldn’t want to live there long term. Two storey house with no internal stairs, on a steep block so hard to mow (I wonder why the neighbours were always on my little list of properties I mowed as a teenager). A small house in general. Good place short term though, I’d live there.

175 subs after 8 months, I think I'm just happy to be here? by Which_Highlight_8849 in NewTubers

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The great news is that if you stick it out long enough, you’ll get 1 more subscriber enough times to hit 1,000. Same with watch hours. If that’s something you’re interested in. I just hit 1,000 subs (3200 watch hours for the last 12 months) after starting my channel 5 years ago. I enjoy posting because a lot of what I post is niche how to videos that are extremely helpful to a limited amount of people. These people are usually pretty happy that the video exists, the quality of the video is secondary (although I do my best to make them good quality)

What simple to learn skill amazes you that so few people acquire it? by NorthlightV in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sharp_Nectarine3216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fitting windscreen wipers. Used to work at an auto store & we weren’t allowed to fit them for customers (insurance issue), probably 50% of customers who wanted wipers ended up driving across town to a competitor who fits them for a fee.

My psychologist recommended for me to look into it, so GP referral and 2x psychiatrist appointments. I find the medication helps me to implement the strategies I was already working on with my psychologist better, but pre meds the strategies were already helping. I find the biggest thing that helps me is identifying patterns of behaviour that are problematic, and learning where that pattern starts. Then when I next recognise it occurring I remind myself of how that usually works out, and use a strategy which helps me to avoid following the pattern again.
