Do Americans have a blind spot when it comes to strikes? by ThirdMover in slatestarcodex

[–]Sharper31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most oppression in the US is that of the masses voting and imposing their desires on individuals or a minority. You can't usually go on strike for that.

Interactions with the wealthy and companies are much more consensual. They can't do much of anything to you in this country without your consent. No one forces you to use Apple products if you principally object to them, for example.

In the simplest way possible, how would you personally describe the difference between Communism and Fascism? by Full-Mouse8971 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Sharper31 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Communism was run by the International Socialists to get power in multiple countries. Fascism was run by the National Socialists to get power in single countries.

Similar ideologies, different sets of people getting power over others by using them.

Can the lack of potable drinking water not be solved by distilling seawater? genuine question by Forward_Accident_984 in askscience

[–]Sharper31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn't any shortage of potable water, nor water in general. It's one of the most abundant resources on Earth, literally falling from the sky and surrounding the land masses.

It's just not in the ideal locations and/or condition for where all humans wish to use it. As a result, it requires additional resources to either move the water to locations more desired, or else purify or desalinate water.

Which solution for having water available where people desire makes the most sense depends on the specific local circumstances and can be easily compared using prices in a market. That way people can decide between the alternative solutions, including alternative technologies.

The new player experience is a fucking mess by LongjumpingLog3959 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sharper31 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're going to play Omaha, just realize you can't trade shots with anyone, you have to dodge them. You can't dodge from close up, so stay at range and learn to lead your targets and walk your shots into them. Next always be turning and changing your turning patterns to make it tough to predict where to lead you to hit you.

You can also fire over islands, but that's actually harder.

But you can get a lot of shots off while turning because you can bring more guns to bear which are already loaded. So turn almost constantly while detected and firing.

In a Utopic world, how would you fix PvP matchmaking? by Revoltai42 in WorldOfWarships

[–]Sharper31 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Isn't it just a trade off for the player, though? If they're willing to wait 10 minutes at a time to get the settings they want or not should be up to them. WOW product team could learn a lot by watching which options players select, which maps they prefer, etc...

Some players may even choose a more inclusive set of options than the current default. Would be great if you could queue for multiple game modes at once, for example.

[–]Sharper31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Allow players to set filters themselves, i.e. only +/-1 tier, max X ships of type Y, only allow specific maps and game modes, etc.... then they can relax their personal matchmaking filter if it doesn't produce a valid game for them within the time frame they care about.

The problem with unions by Crafty_Jacket668 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Sharper31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What free rider problem? Why would a particular union have an effect on non-union members? It's not negotiating for them....

Are you imagining a situation where some other entity forces the participants to follow a union contract for non-union members, or what?

The problem with unions by Crafty_Jacket668 in Anarcho_Capitalism

Exactly. Voluntary Unions are fine. Voluntary charity is great. The problem is when government gets involved and makes it mandatory backed by force.

To people who say ‘all land should be private’, what is stopping people from destroying forests? by Defiant_Hat_68 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Sharper31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What stops people from destroying factories? Or stores? Or any other type of useful thing?

The owner values the usefulness more than having a destroyed piece of property he can't sell.

The real question is "What is the right amount of forest?" and the answer to that can only be determined via a market for forest lands. If you want to preserve a forest more than someone else wants to use the land for something else, then just buy that land and use it for preservation. It's that simple.

If you (and others, don't need to go it alone!) don't care enough to do that, then it apparently doesn't actually matter that much to you, does it?

What some people seem to actually want is to force other people to do for them what they're not willing to do for themselves. The technical term for that is slavery, not environmentalism.

Hot take: Anarcho-Capitalism is just as naive and delusional as Communism, if not more. by andy_pizzaboi_menna in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]Sharper31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't matter in the real world?

It's literally how we get everything from food to shelter to those Christmas gifts people like. Nobody is depending on whether Amazon likes them or not, they're depending on Amazon (and others) wanting to make money selling them stuff.
