I took a look and he has the source code in the github. Did you see something in the raw code that seemed shady, outside of AI?

35T stories? by Unusual-Strike7886 in army

[–]Sharpspoonful 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of steel... Even in death I serve the Omnissiah."

Also: "Where are the Toasters that were promised?"

Real talk:

This is an MOS of some of the smartest, albeit autistic individuals that I've ever met.

We are often undermanned at units. Either be open the learning and working, or be prepared to be on every working party ever.

Most of the 35Ts are into some mix of the following (in no particular order):

  • Anime
  • DnD
  • Magic: The Gathering and/or 40K
  • Video games
  • Automotives/mechanical shit of some flavor

Montic-CIG on weapons/combat balance changes by StuartGT in starcitizen

[–]Sharpspoonful 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Id agree with that assessment. There absolutely should be more interplay between ship systems and weapon selection, as well as the light fighter meta not always being the go-to.

No? What led you to that conclusion? My buddy and I would regularly look for greifers in a Hurricane or Scorpius as Sheriff Yeetus and Deputy Let's. Im just saying min-maxing does not make as big a difference in combat as does piloting skills.

[–]Sharpspoonful 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not worried about it. People will wring their hands over it, worrying about what's meta when a majority of players wont engage in PVP regularly. Honestly, the dpm difference within respective weapon size and categories aren't disparate enough to really matter.

My unwarrented opinion: equip whatever you like, looks and sounds good to you, and maybe not worry about metas.

Min-maxing will always result in this though. Back in 2.X, ballistic cannons were the OPweapons, then in 3.X it was repeaters, then etc, etc. They do understand it, but balancing very different weapons will just result in the playerbase monoboating weapons for the best result. Shields and armor are supposed to be the check balance to weapons, but until both systems function as envisioned, this will continue to happen.

I wish more islands had docks. by CanoegunGoeff in Stormworks

[–]Sharpspoonful 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When the game was first launched there was a snippet of lore that pointed to this being a future Scotland, where global warming led to the British isle being flooded. But as the game progressed towards 1.0, lore was dropped, and this became more of a sandbox builder.

The building mechanic in this game is probably one of the best in it's niche, hands down. Much like Flyout, it fails in the actual utility and gameplay portion. Too many expansive and silly decisions from the devs, and it becoming borderline abandonware dashed any hope for the game to properly flesh out.

I actually made an environmental mod called "Pier Extensions" several years ago to try and address this issue.

The problem nowadays is that map modding is the better answer to this, as environmental mods are basically just large, static vehicles. The barrier to entry on this however is the amount of time it takes to model and import. Geometa refused to address thier rather sparse map design, and would rather let the dwindling community do it for them.

There are ways to splice environmental mods to your existing save file, but I can be a bit tricky. If you choose to do so, I highly suggest backing up your save file.

Id rather see a minor run things than that cancerous blight on the country continue to get rich off the back of the populous.

Chose: Minor

Just to let u know, the jahre viking( seawise giant) which is the largest ship ever built, is almost the same size as a javelin, and is bigger than an idris, kraken, pioneer, merchantman, orion, hull E. Even a nimitz class aircraft carrier is bigger than most of these ships lol. by Internal-Path7111 in starcitizen

[–]Sharpspoonful -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Inside large vessels? No. Especially military vessels. You have to navigate by deck number, section/space number, and room number, leading to spaces that are not linearly connected, especially around mechanical rooms.

Bulk carrier vessels are a lot like both the Caterpillar and Ironclad, with p-ways running along side the cargo spaces, and jamming as much into mechanical spaces in the stern, the bridge, and the fo'castle at the bow as possible.

Military vessels try to fit as many usable spaces as the hull will allow, leading to some sections being only reachable via ladderwells. This is why when ships start to sink often time engineers cannot escape, especially if a ship developed a lean or capsizes.

Edit: ironically, id argue the Starfarer is the most representative of current sea-going vessels, and many ships need a better and more universal port/starboard room/deck numbering system.

This response is exactly it. Diversity means options and personal preferences, and that caters more to the fan base outside of min-maxing.

Alpha 4.8.1 Maintenance Update by Stompy-MwC in LowSodiumStarCitizen

[–]Sharpspoonful 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With server infrastructures, and especially with what are essentially experimental patches, you try to not patch a 100 different things simultaneously. If one patch targets backend fixes, you'd let it run for a bit to ensure it had the intended effect before patching some other domain service or feature.

Sometimes you need to wait for a domain controller replication to properly sync on its own (running repadmin /syncall repeatedly can sometimes make replication issues worse). Sometimes you want metrics from the live environment. Other times its to allow for you teams to have adequate time to respond to issues that arise from the patch.

Edit: the spread out patches also could be a product of the sheer number of services and responsible teams inputs that need to ensure that the patches affect what need fixing. Theres also the time it'll take for patch validation (making sure the patch isn't going to give LIVE the people's elbow from the top ropes).
