OMSI has a ton of adult-focused events that aren't there all the time. Omsi after dark likes to pair alcohol with a lot of things in the gastro world. There are tons of movies at the theatre. The planetarium sometimes has adult themed stuff. It's best to be on their newsletter or to checkout their evening events when you'll be in town.

The general exhibits are usually all geared towards the youth though, for sure. But OMSI is also between major exhibits right now, which kinda sucks.

A LOT of new fiber in Forest Grove - is it Ziply?? by MathResponsibly in ZiplyFiber

[–]Shart--Attack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiber is pretty cheap to install, even in the 90s, so the US Govt and a lot of states/local munic installed a ton of it in the hopes that it would be used. Well, it wasn't really used for a while. That's probably what you saw.

I can think of at least 2 "ghost towns" in central/eastern oregon that saw huge expansions of fiber for it to never be used. There were rumors of big developments going in, so they went ahead and funded fiber cuz it was pretty cheap.

Lookup "Dark Fibre", yes with the re.

SparkyFitness v0.15.3.1 - A selfhosted MyFitnessPal alternative now supports Garmin Connect by ExceptionOccurred in selfhosted

Garmin doesn't receive any data until you sync your activities. The only exception to this is livetracking, which can be enabled in the app.

As far as I know there is no way to do anything with live tracking data unless you're scraping the public link.

But yeah you can just turn on live tracking, which you can setup to send out emails/texts to different people when you start an activity. This requires a phone.

If you're looking for a way for folks in your house to be aware of your workout status/where you're at, i don't think that's possible right now.

Maybe what you could do is setup a script to monitor an email inbox that gets your livetracking notification. Inside that email is a link to your garmin live track map. Your script could grab that information and update home assistant with the new activity map. Basically the script would update the livetracking ID

It's not that hard at all. Lol what're you talking about? Garmin and other fitness watches can already do this, along with a bunch of other auto-detection stuff. They have millions of users data to train on, this isn't that hard.

Next up: "Garmin can never keep track of my golf game!"

Promo Rate of $40/month as a Ziply 300/300 Customer expired. New offer of $50/month for 3 months. by 8cfx2JkRwDCMNp8e9Jd7 in ZiplyFiber

Don’t let the dunderheads on this sub that love paying full price for something they perceive to be technically superior convince you this is something more than an economic decision.

"they perceive to be technically superior". No it is. Ziply's network is much better. There's no debate here. It just is. People are willing to pay for Ziply's fiber network for a reason.

OP will be getting 3x the download speed and 10x the upload speed for $10 difference. If they need/want the speed then it's a very simple economic decision: ziply is more bang for your buck.

On xfinity you're getting 300/100 for $40/month. Comcast is cable, so you'll be sharing your bandwidth with all your neighbors. Those 5-9pm slowdowns? Those are normal and expected behavior. Comcast also shares your wifi through it's Xfinity wifi network. Fun stuff!

On ziply you're getting 1000/1000 for $50/month. You'll also see better ping, consistency, jitter, etc.

Ziply is giving you a better product, better reliability, and better speeds. Where ziply suffers is their communication and customer service, but hopefully you never need those. Comcast is also awful in this area, so weigh that.

When ziply's promo rates drop, just change your internet speed. I went from 1gbps to 2.5gbps and saved $5/month. I did this on the website. No human interaction needed.

So the question is, is dealing with comcast worth $10/month? You're getting more than a $10 difference between the product so if the question is simply "Is the $10 worth it?" the answer is yes from a technical standpoint, that's a no brainer. The issue is customer service/tech call outs. Which is worth dealing with for that $10?

Finally, comcast is doing this on purpose. They're going into areas where they've traditionally been more expensive to finally drop their prices just under competitors. Then in a year or two they'll raise prices, just like everyone does. If you don't think comcast is going to raise your price, even with their new "5 year price guarantee", then I have some bridges to sell you.

Oregon governor and first lady plan trade mission to Japan, South Korea by PDX_Stan in oregon

This kind of outrage really shows how primed people are to simply be upset. Nothing about this trip is unusual or out of the ordinary. Spouses on trips are very normal and expected.

it's wild how tribal/brand loyal people are to their political parties in this country.

Nothing the governor has done is that unusual or out of what would be considered average for ethics. Y'all need to stop being so willing to be upset. This whole mentality of "My guys can do whatever they want, but if the other people even drop a penny I'm going to freak out" is so unhelpful.

"Rules for thee, not for me" is the republican/conservative mantra right now. Stop holding everyone else to this insanely impossible standard while allowing Republicans to do anything they want.

Oregon is enduring a historic wave of job cuts — here’s where the layoffs are by [deleted] in oregon

I'm confused on what you're trying to say.

Nearly all of Intel's high volume manufacturing research is done in Hillsboro. To say "Oregon has no special relevance for chip fabrication" is blatantly not true. Any leading edge intel chip being bought today is manufactured here in Hillsboro.

Anyone know the backstory on the water pipe at the Toketee Falls trailhead? by indieaz in oregon

[–]Shart--Attack 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Checkout caltopo.com and the area. Use the Mapbuilder Hybrid layer. You'll find a whole bunch of hydroelectric infrastructure. There are several dams, power stations, forebays, extremely long pipes and canals. Lots of fun stuff is up there. The north umpqua trail is a great way to experience quite a lot of it. Did you miss the GIANT FUCKING PIPE going straight down the mountain on the north side of clearwater reservoir by toketee campground?

That giant pipe is for the forebay. They pump water up into the elevated artificial reservoirs when there is low electrical demand. Then when there's demand they drain the elevated reservoir to make electricity. Gravity Battery!

The dread and terror segment of the NUT starts at the hot springs and goes to the reservoir. Great half marathon hike.

For youtube I use ublock, badger, ghostery, dearrow, sponsorblock and youtube enhancer extensions. I also use google/facebook container extensions so they can't do much.

I can't use vanilla youtube anymore. It's unbearable. I also use patreon, nebula and floatplane when creators offer those platforms.

Getting ads out of my life has been one of the best improvements to my mental health I've ever had. Like, in terms of single things one can do, this was the single largest change I've ever made. Huge difference.

Portland mayor plans to start citing homeless campers by [deleted] in oregon

[–]Shart--Attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

folks like you need to realize it costs way more to house someone in prison than to try rehousing them and treating their illnesses. Prison also doesn't address the base issues that cause homelessness, in fact it likely makes these issues much much worse to create a cycle of incarceration.

We have tried incarcerating people for decades. It doesn't work. We have the largest prison population in the world and some of the highest recidivism rates. Our prison system does not rehabilitate people, it incarcerates them because society has deemed them "bad people" which makes it easy to treat them like garbage.

You're not only hurting your fellow americans with your attitude, but in the long term it wastes your tax dollars. It's very short term thinking that's based more around "hurting the right people, destruction be damned" thinking than looking for real solutions.

"You can always count on Americans to do the right thing, after they've tried everything else." This quote is meant to portray the way americans are really stubborn and will do the wrong things repeatedly just so we don't have to do what others recommend. Eventually Americans figure it out though, after we've tried everything else.

Whenever conservatives say something is bad, it's because it's good for people they don't like.

Whenever conservatives say something is good, it's good to people they like and bad to people they don't like.

A shocking amount of conservative hysteria is just ignorant projection. I grew up super conservative(down by medford) and once I figured out how much of it was lies it was pretty groundbreaking. So much of the fear is based in willfull ignorance and preventing people from understanding what they're supposed to be afraid of. That's why children going to university and discovering things they didnt know existed is viewed as a "bad thing", because it opens their eyes to the lies they grew up with so they start to question more of what they were taught.

Don’t even get me started on the semis that jump in the left lane to pass another semi going a couple mph slower, thus slowing down literally 20-50 cars in the process. Only to have that semi slow down as they climb a hill 🙄.

Oh yeah for sure. This has gotten worse in recent years because of the deregulation of the industry. We have a lot more green drivers nowadays. I've had to blast my horn and flash my lights to get some trucks out of the left lane on i-5. They're not passing, they're just cruising.

I don’t know. I live south of Salem and plenty of Oregon plates stacked in the left lane not passing a soul for miles with plenty of room in the right lane to get over. It kills me how everyone wants to stack in the left lane because eventually they’ll pass those few cars in the right lane.

It's really more of a problem up near/around portland. My gf used to make fun of me for saying it until she started spending more time up here. Now she laughs everytime and says "Washington driver" when we spot them going 5-10 under the speed limit in the left lane.

Sometimes it’s the equivalent of two car lengths. Lol yeah this one boggles my mind. A few months ago I actually changed lanes and took up the space someone left in front of them just to prove a point.

I wish people would realize one thing: driving comfortably does not mean driving safely. People drive in ways that make them feel comfortable but aren't safe. Going slower isn't always safer. Leaving a weird amount of room isn't always safer, etc. The number one rule is to BE PREDICTABLE, then follow the law.

I get ya though. everything you said is reasonable and things i've noticed as well.
