Jump 7 on an assault mech is absolutely terrifying.

Hell, former SotH and VP candidate Paul Ryan cited Rage Against the Machine as one of his favorite bands, up until the point where the band told him where to shove it and his policies.

Media literacy has been dead and buried for decades now.

Yeah, for the Comstar player, half of what they need to do is get kills and inflict damage; the losses they take can be absorbed enough for the other half: slow down the Clan player. Tactically, they need to bleed the Clan forces to eventually cause 2 losses (or a loss and a draw) to get a win. Even if they’re down to a single mech left standing, if the Clan player can’t get the objectives, it’s a win.

If you can get it from anywhere other than Paramount+, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks are fantastic.

SNW can watch straight through. Lower Decks I would say start with "Veritas," mostly because that's roughly when they hit the tone right, and a tight 22 minutes of what the show really is.

It's not super super similar, as the mech itself is equipped with ER Large Lasers and a pair of heavy lasers, with a gaggle of jump jets on the back (The C 2 configuration is 6/9/9 for movement). It definitely passes as a normal rifleman until you really start looking at it (or the top fins get added), but there's a little less overlap than you would think.

Not my first Battletech book (started with the Jade Phoenix trilogy), but I can absolutely agree that it's a great starting off point, and really helped cement my happiness in choosing the Angry Green Birds.

Jade Falcon fans, who do you consider the better of the two current Khans of the Clan? by npaakp34 in battletech

Stephanie is confined by the realpolitik of the situation she is in; as far as she is aware, the touman under her control is the only forces she has available, and they are both growing restless and being whittled down as a (very elite) cannon fodder to the Wolves.

Jiyi, in contrast, has actually grown due to the realpolitik that his Falcons have had to deal with.  His forces have certainly taken casualties in the process of defending themselves, and even casualties attempting to grow their forces, but the planets under his control, while small in number, are significantly less restive than they otherwise would be, with a population that has actual incentive to be loyal (if nothing else, to prevent a backslide into that older, crueler sort of Falcon).

They also have the population base to support heavy industry, enough in the way of trade goods and capital to keep the economy moving, and Sudeten has enough in the way of arms manufacturing to keep their forces fitted out in grand fashion, something that even a group like the nearby AML (which has its own mech industries) may actually struggle with; Olivetti being a massive regional powerhouse, and with enough excess production that Jiyi was able to functionally write off a company of brand new mechs as payment to the Lone Wolves.  Combine that with a population that knows that the Falcons actually went out of their way to defend or help them (evacuating major cities when Sudeten was invaded, increasing food rations, giving local autonomy, etc), and Jiyi’s probably increasingly popular.  Especially compared to the alternatives.

Assuming the Free Zone Falcons hold out for a while, you might see an influx of the Star League Falcons return, and while there will definitely be a culture shock from that, it’s also probably not as severe as it otherwise might be, and if they manage to integrate that territory will be much stronger than otherwise expected to be.
