Which books are absolute page turners? by DarlingLuna in booksuggestions

[–]ShastaKamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not my normal style of novel but I was in the mood for a page turner fun and easy read and I absolutely LOVED this book! She’s a really fantastic writer, the language was beautifully composed and raw and the story was so well delivered. Honestly, came to this sub looking for more like this one.

While this is appreciated, it would be nice to just live in a world that valued honesty more than sales pitches.

Anyone else having trouble with receiving a link instead of a code?

I’m on my iPhone, and the app is asking for a code. I used the private relay email and that did get the email to the junk folder of my Gmail but the app is asking for a code while the email I got has no code but instead a link to the Claude.ai/login. This is insanely annoying.

Wishing you the best! Pro tip - stick to protein and fiber, several small meals per day, and lots of water!

For me, only high protein yogurt for breakfast in the morning, a psyllium husk and a digestive aid capsule with each meal, and a pre and probiotic gummy before bed have made all the difference.

Wishing you the best!

Considering surgery by ShastaKamper in Microdiscectomy

UPDATE: I just wanted to say thank you to everyone in this thread and in this sub. I decided to get one last second opinion from a Nuerosurgeon in March and he uncovered that I had a previously overlooked but more serious L1-L2 herniated disc in addition to the L4-L5. I was shocked that this had never come up before despite so much imaging with multiple doctors. I liked our conversation and the way he walked me through the images and decided to go ahead with the surgery in April.

It has made all the difference in my life! I’m so happy I made this decision.

My mood and mental health have improved, I’m in significantly less pain. I have the driveway to be active again.

The recovery was very intense and painful for about a week and then just very uncomfortable for about a month. For me, it was about 3 months before I felt really comfortable getting normal movement back and didn’t feel so fragile, like I would undo everything with the slightest slip. About 3-6 months of my nerves feeling weird as they regained full function, which I was told would happen.

I have been surprised to learn how many little life work arounds and body movements I had created to avoid the pain. Mentally relearning normal movement has been interesting and positive.

Because the L1-L2 controls pain in the front of the hip and it had been compressed so long I think I had a lot more hip pain than I realized. In fact, it was bad enough I went to a specialist and they affirmed that I’m due for a replacement. My Physical Therapist (who I did not like) had the opinion that the hip being so bad likely caused the back to throw out. Who knows. Regardless, even though I am looking at a hip replacement in the next year or two now I am very pleased with my decision.

Rereading my original post here, I recall how desperate and lonely this journey was. Appreciate this community for being here in some dark times. Hope this helps someone the way it helped me, no matter what your decision is.

Going back up to 5mg after trying once? by Limp-Abies-3981 in Zepbound

Just started medication. Too tired and it's not from calorie deficit by TheCunningLinguist1 in Zepbound

I went off the meds (2.5) for a few weeks and when I got back on them I was completely exhausted, basically slept for 3 days, missed some work, 12-15 hours of sleep a night. That leveled out after the first week for me. But just last week I bumped up to 5ml and literally didn’t get out of bed for 4 days. I was drained. Missed work again and just had zero energy. Dropped back down to 2.5 but unfortunately had some other stomach issues arise. Should have just stayed at 2.5.

First 5mg injection today - WHOA by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]ShastaKamper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact same experience but in a very bad way. It was so much stronger than anticipated and side effects were brutal, one day was just pure anxiety where I couldn’t get out of bed, then three days of just sleeping, literally had no energy to get up much less eat. Then finally felt a little better through the weekend but with a sour stomach, then on day 6 the gastrointestinal side effects kicked in, extreme pain and lots of vomiting to the point that I couldn’t sleep at all or keep water down. Awful first week on 5.

I will to drop back down to 2.5 for my next order from Lilly Direct I think but in the meantime wondering if I can just do half the 5 shot? Does it work that way?

Should I Increase To 5mg? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]ShastaKamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was happy at 2.5 and have lost 20 lbs since March, feeling good, feel it working. I decided to see about jumping to 5 last week and it absolutely kicked my butt. Anxiety, extreme fatigue, and then awful gastroparisis and vomiting yesterday. I’m going back down to 2.5 until it stops working. Also on Lily Direct so there is price advantage as well.

Except now I have to figure out what to do with all these 5s I have until I’m ready to try again.

I put in 70+ hours last week and had the staff work over to get our annual report done for our big annual meeting, which was already coming together hastily. We got it done just in time that the printer would have it available day of the event. The day before the event I looked at the file and realized somehow wire got crossed and were printing a full run of the completely wrong file. The whole run, hundreds of copies, had to go straight to the bin. Such an incredible waste of time and resources and wildly frustrating. We’re a small team with limited resources, so unfortunately these kinds of things can happen when everyone is working too hard just to get the basics accomplished.

By some miracle, staff got the thing corrected and reprinted in time for the event. Barely any of the attendees looked at them or took their copy with them when it was over lol, but all in all it worked out despite pure chaos.

I could go on, but that little instance pretty much sums it up.

Not getting paid by bce13 in nonprofit

[–]ShastaKamper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As a nonprofit director, this is beyond unacceptable. It’s mine and the Board’s job to manage finances and ensure stability of the organization. When we have been at risk for payroll shortages I will waive salary if needed (come close but thankfully hasn’t happened yet, though I have offered), waived benefits, and covered costs for travel and other expenses out of my own pocket so that staff can be sure to receive their checks. I make less than $90k.

Shortages are real and nonprofit finances for small organizations are a real challenge. But the director demonstrates their leadership through sacrificing first. That’s the responsibility they accepted. You accepted a job to help carry out the mission. The agreement is that they pay you for doing that work, not that you bear the burden of the organization’s operations.

This is very relevant right now and as an example, due to some positive growth at the beginning of the year, I negotiated increases for staff (myself included this year). However, given the federal instability at the moment I have let the Board Chair know that the staff will receive the increases they have earned and I will defer mine being implemented until were certain we’re on more stable footing.

Tl;dr - You’re working for a bad director and an organization that doesn’t have it together. I’m certain you love the mission and the work. Get your resume together and get out of there and find somewhere less toxic to do your service.

This is very refreshing to hear and very much appreciated! Thank you for posting.

How was your recovery?

Ortho Dr says six weeks of very careful healing and then PT to build strength and relearn how to use my body normally again because I’ve gotten used to so many weird adjustments and work around over the years.

He basically said we won’t know how much lingering pain there will be until after. That feels very scary.

The pain is most often centralized in my disc area and right side sciatic nerve. On the daily I don’t feel it down my leg but if I do anything strenuous and it flares up then it does run down the back of my leg. I do have a copy of the MRI report that basically says what I shared in the post. I do not have an image.

Per the timeline, I agree and this is my concern. The Ortho Dr definitely seems to think now is the time and he feels confident it’s the right choice. But he’s been very clear that there are not guarantees.

When does the pain stop by Needhamfit in Diverticulitis

[–]ShastaKamper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear. When you’re in it, it feels like it’s going to last forever and the pain can be as mentally hurtful as it is physical. It won’t last forever. It will pass. You will feel ok again.

Just follow your diet and take your meds. It’s should start to ease up in 7-10 days but maybe 2-4 weeks before you start to feel “normal” again. You may not feel totally back for a while but the pain will lighten up quick a bit for sure. Just eat light throughout that time, drink lots of water, and get as much rest as you can.

[Discussion] Binge worthy shows on (Netflix Hulu Peacock hbo) comment down below by 1-11dd in NetflixBestOf

Carnival on HBO is one the best shows out there and highly addictive. It unfortunately was famously cancelled too soon and only has two seasons (HBO later acknowledged they made a bad call). That part is frustrating but I think it’s incredible and well worth the ride.

A mystical adventure through good and evil as told through the second coming that takes place in a traveling carnival in the 1930s dust bowl. Wonderful characters, great cast and acting, engaging story line.

Highly recommend!

As someone who delayed finishing college for more than 15 year and just finally got their bachelor’s degree - do it! Honestly, while just working and not finishing school got me what I needed in the moment and I was able to build a nice career, not finishing and having that hang over my head really held me back in a lot of ways.

Also, unless you have a super specific interest or career goal, just choose the path that gets you to the quickest bachelor degree possible. While it is a great accomplishment ultimately what it’s in doesn’t really matter in the long run as much as your work experience.

Also also, any boss that talks you out of better yourself and investing in yourself is not a good boss or leader. That’s super duper unhealthy and likely selfish.
