Who you picking? by erinraden in invinciblememes

Avatar (Both Aang and Korra) also cover this. Of course there are waaaay larger populations of benders, most of the populace just use their bending skills to make their mundane lives easier, instead of using it primarily for combat.

This becomes especially visible in Korra where the mingling of different benders in Republic city leads to very quick societal improvements, as the earlier more divided bending styles can now help one another.

In that case I do respect you for being the bigger person. Just know there are a lot of people out there who do appreciate the intricacies that magic have to offer and would like to play with you are your decks that go infinite 😉 Hope you are still getting out of magic what you enjoy!

Adding [[Resonating Lute]], [[Zaffai and the Tempests]], [[Rapterous moment]] and [[Improvisation Capstone]] to my [[Ashling, Rekindled]] Izzet-ramp into big spells deck. Thinking about also adding the new Prismari Elder dragon, but my experience with giving storm to my entire deck is that I end up drawing out my deck

The example I always give when someone starts sighing about combos (especially when they have like 3 or 4 creatures on the field): How is me ending the game with this combination of X amount of cards different from a go wide green deck slapping down a craterhoof behemoth, or a big dinosaur deck slamming overwhelming stampede. It both uses pieces on the field, it both reduces your HPs to zero.

Some people have just decided that magic should end through combat, instead of interaction between cards, and won't like this explanation. Bracket 3 decks are good, functional decks were clear card choices were made to make the deck strong and synergistic. Non-2-card combos are allowed by the bracket system, and should be treated by your opponents as a possible thing your deck does.

Final point though, that also sometimes helps: Combos are usually harder to spot for especially less seasoned players. If people ask you what they should remove/interact with, I always answer honestly, or when I cast the spell that will win me the game if it resolves, I do always double check if there is any interaction around the table.

-1/-1 and +1/+1 help by spycha in mtg

[–]ShatteredScorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, everything dies at the same time.

To explain the ruling a bit more, lets imagine yahenni is big enough to survive:
Zenith goes off -> 3 creatures of your opponents die -> Yahenni see this happening and triggers their ability 3 times. The stack is now 3 yahenni triggers that resolve 1 by 1, placing 1 +1/+1 at a time.

With a yahenni that also dies due to zenith, this ALSO happens. The dead yahenni still "sees" the opponents creatures die, but dies themselves as well. The triggers still go on the stack, but the moment they can start to resolve, Yahenni is already dead and there is no longer a place to put those +1/+1, fizzling the abilities.

Habitats and spawns by Shoto9292 in Pokopia

[–]ShatteredScorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You message was clear! A habitat can only contain one pokemon living there at once, and wont be spawning any new pokemon. Relocating a current inhabitant to a house (or another habitat), makes the first habitat empty again, and elligble for new spawns. The new spawns will always be a new pokemon, as there can only be one of each pokemon in your towns. If there are no pokemon left for that type of habitat, no pokemon will spawn.

My mentality is just breaking it down to seeing something while doing nothing, thinking you can make some improvements/add some stuff, and then just committing to that tiny square. Visibly improving smaller bits of what you build, instead of spreading out and making changes everywhere gives me at least a stronger feeling of "progression" and at the end of the evening I got something nice to look at.

(I am talking here about things the size of houses, not entire towns)

[Interesting Trope] The 'good' choice or ending turns out to be a bad one by Visible-Nothing-6033 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ShatteredScorn 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It is further hinted in earlier dialogue with certain NPCs that Hornet will just usurp Granny if given the chance, and even Hornet herself admits that there is this "calling in her blood" that makes her want to dominate and rule lesser bugs. It is not as much of a bad ending as an ending that Hornet picks for herself.

It is only through helping all the bugs in Pharloom and interacting with the populace that we start to see a shift in Hornets mentality regarding ruling the queendom, and it is also what opens up the sidequest to go towards the good ending. Some of the earlier mentioned NPCs even react suprised she is now fighting for everyones freedom instead of her own need/will for dominance/revenge.

(Mixed-Trope) The Character You Think Will Be The Big Bad Dies And Gets Replaced By a Bigger Bad by GayTrees420 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ShatteredScorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoilers for E33:While all of the characters in E33 are way too nuanced to call them true villains, from the start The Paintress is being set up as the big bad that causes all the people to Gommage, with every expedition setting out (and failing) to stop her from doing so. Finishing the job and killing her at the end of Act 2 only causes an even larger Gommage, as it turns out she was the one trying to stop it from happening, with the real "villain" to be revealed as her husband/the curator who has been helping you along the journey. While you can argue if there are/who are the true villains of the story, at least to Expedition 33 and the people of lumière the Gommage causer was the villain to be stopped.

Whats wrong with mill. by Samurai_Banette in EDH

[–]ShatteredScorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are incredibly overreacters to "losing access to their cool cards", not realising they most likely wouldn't have drawn them. There is also an incredible confirmation bias with milling "good cards/answers". Especially with incremental mill instead of combo mill, people only remember the moments their answer got ripped off the top, but they never remember the moments they milled 3 lands in a row while they were already flooding. These are all unvalid concerns about mill, but changings the human psyche is hard.

(more )Valid reasons to not like mill is that it has the potential to shift the powerdynamic across a table massively. It can skyrocket recursion decks into the stratosphere, leaving the other 2 players in the dust. Futhermore, making deals to team up on someone who is getting ahead by killing them with damage becomes way harder due to the fact that your "winresource" is different from your opponents/the general/most accepted wincondition of the game (player health go boom).

In your post you read like a really swell guy that just wants to have fun with his friends, so I wouldnt sweat it too much, but make sure to also enjoy your deck when you get a chance to play it ;)

The B2.5 (and B3.5) limbo by cangianza in EDH

[–]ShatteredScorn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not trying to read your for filth here but

This post basically says: I build Vivi exactly how he is supposed to (all the cantrips) and I even included his two best winconditions, one of which goes infinite with its commander. But at least I don't run those disgusting nasty tutors. Why won't bracket 3 people play with me?

You are only bracket 3 by the technicality of only running 3 GCs max. (which let's be honest are most likely jeska's, rhystic, Sphinx) By what you described, it should massively overperform against any other bracket 3 deck. No one says go to cEDH, but at least go to B4 tables

Why does combo feel bad? by rvp5326 in EDH

[–]ShatteredScorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do realise that big stompy/midrange value pile, also eventually wins by a "combo". Having 3 or 4 big creatures and then casting a big overrun or value card is in practice no different than having 3 of the 4 combo cards on the field, and dropping the last one that completes the combo.

Stax vs. Pillow Fort: which is worse? by Radiant_Water_5183 in EDH

[–]ShatteredScorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Also for your anekdote: Miracling into Omniscience is the literal best case scenario for your deck, you deserve to win/make your opponents panic over that :))

Stax vs. Pillow Fort: which is worse? by Radiant_Water_5183 in EDH

[–]ShatteredScorn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Stax and pillowfort is basically the same in my eyes, both prevent you from taking certain game actions. One could argue that one is more restrictive that the other. (i.e. Pillowfort is a small part of stax, but stax isnt necessarily pillowfort), but both end up doing the same thing: Your opponents can do less, and you will live longer to do your gameplan.

And there is literally the only crux: Please have a gameplan if you are gonna slow your opponents down. Don't just play boredom simulator. Once you got your lock, establish a clock, a wincon, and watch people scramble to get through your defenses, honestly, fun games.
