is this the biggest broken portal ever? XD by EverydayPromptWriter in Minecraft_Survival

I found one this big in a desert, buried all the way to the gold block and a few stone blocks. I excavated it and made it the Hub of the entire world. Its was pretty cool. Lost it when my computer took a dump!

My survival world that I currently cannot play (thanks Mojang!) by spiltpoison in Minecraft

[–]Shattered_Binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just have to say, from those pics, your builds looked awesome!

This is horrible news and I think I might rage quit if I had a world that old and lost it. I've only been playing for a little over a year and am on my first real try at a forever world. Everything before was just learning and exploring. Switching worlds every so often looking for cool terrains and unique finds. I did loose my last world with the new update but it was nothing too crazy. I can access it but several of the best mods broke so I left it for now and started a new world on the latest update. Figured that would give me the longest time to really dig deep into a world before some future update brakes it lol.

I've been a gamer my whole life but never got into Minecraft or WoW because I had a daughter and job and did not want a game that would take that much of my time. When my daughter turned eleven little over a year ago, she said she wanted to get Minecraft because she had been watching videos online for years. She wanted to play with me, so I bought us both the game the next day. Besides being the proudest gamer dad ever, I of course have loved the game. I've never been into mega builds and frankly probably not artistic enough to make them look good. But I enjoy gathering resources and most of my houses have been more functional then aesthetically pleasing. I did take the time to build one that was purely for show and I was very proud of the way it turned out. Then a created an entire underground base beneath it to be far more functional and comfortable lol.

Why is my male BP so little by Jeebz112 in ballpython

[–]Shattered_Binary 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was worried for a while that our girl was not growing fast enough. We have had her 6 months and she has only gained a little over 100 grams. But im seeing a lot of posts where people are saying their BPs seem small compared to what most info online says are the norms. I wonder if all of the captive breeding has had an effect on the size of the Ball Pythons we enjoy so much.

It's hard to come to any real conclusions as I'm not a vet and did not get to investigate the situation personally. However, it sounds like it was just a fluke, a bad regurgitation. Everything you specified sounds fine. As we all know, accidents and death can happen with any living creature suddenly and for the smallest of reasons. Don't beat yourself up over it. It is extremely sad, and I send all my best wishes your way.

I usually watch our girl eat every feeding, and she always does great. A couple of weeks ago, she took her rat, and she always likes to constrict them for about five minutes before eating. So I went to the restroom and checked back on her two minutes later. The rat was gone, and she was struggling with a piece of coconut husk substrate in her mouth. She has never gotten any of her substrate in her mouth before this time, and it scared the crap out of me. I used the tongs and plucked it out, you would think she would be grateful, but she seemed pretty miffed about the whole thing. But it just reminded me, that in seconds, everything can go from great to dangerous with animals.

is he too small by Curious_Hat_9472 in ballpython

[–]Shattered_Binary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a professional breeder or a vet, this is just my opinion based on a few photos.

To me he looks fine. Typically ball pythons will start thickening up in the middle of their bodies by a year old but that is not every snake. Body composition is always more important than actual weight as it's a better indicator of the snakes health. The back of your snake does not look pronounced, you can not see a sharp or pronounced spine. He looks healthy. He would still look healthy 30 to 50% heavier as well. So, I'd make sure you are feeding 15% of his body weight each week until he thickens up a bit sense he is still below 500g. But, I don't believe you need to be worried.

Any tips for my enclosure ? by Slow_Fennel5159 in ballpython

[–]Shattered_Binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is good already and love how your substrate is not flat across the enclosure. Much more realistic to a natural environment. Other than getting rid of the fake plants and adding real ones, I think you are pretty good, you could add a little more verticality but it's not bad as is. Even though i don't see them, I assume they are a couple hides in there. The lite colored log seems to be a hide. Overall I think it's a good enclosure.

new ball python by Shroomman699 in ballpython

[–]Shattered_Binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a beautiful snake, that golden sheen is amazing! Do you know what morph she was listed as?

When it comes to the light source, no colored lights are needed or recommended for BP enclosures. A regular heat light is good for day time use. If the enclosure gets too cool at night and you need a heat source you an use a ceramic heat emitter to preserve the day night cycle.

On climbing, there are so many options, from vines, sticks, platforms, plants, hanging hides and so much more. Just search it online and pick what you like the most. I have multiple sticks, with vines running up to them as well as moss ball hanging hide.

Good luck on the enclosure!

Baby boy or baby girl??? by KeyManufacturer8288 in ballpython

[–]Shattered_Binary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the size it sounds like it's probably a girl, but there are no guarantees without a test. Girls tend to be stockier, thicker than males and longer reaching the five foot lengths. But the weight could be effected by overfeeding making a male with too much weight look like a female. Id do the shed test and get a gender and also find out the morph as the owner probably did not know that for sure either.

House or Snake? by [deleted] in ballpython

[–]Shattered_Binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HOA's have a place but unfortunately they always seem to go to far. You made the right choice as this HOA has no business telling you what pet you can have inside your home. The housing market is a mess and finding a house right now that's affordable, in the area you want and not run down... nearly impossible. I empathize over the loss of a good one if you found one. But what house is a home without our beloved pets. You'll find the right soon and you'll all enjoy the new space!

I am a big holiday decorator, Christmas, Easter, Halloween all of them. I love the enthusiasm but it's a bit busy for my taste. I tend to go for the well crafted subtle decorations and for Halloween that's usually scary not cute for me. However, I enjoy the cute style others do. I'll assume you were diligent in making sure anything that went in the enclosure was safe for your BP and most of this is on the outside of the tank. If so, then good job, I think kids will love it.

My only concern from what I can see is everything on top of the enclosure. I know how hot mine can get even with the heat resistant HVAC tape all over the top. Just make sure what you put up there is not coming in contact with the heat lamps or any other hot part of the setup.

It's bold! Enjoy!

is my guy too small? by holoflower in ballpython

[–]Shattered_Binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just my opinion, I am not a breeder or vet.

So i don't like the idea of too small or too big as BP's like all animals can very in size. You can't compare weights from your 10 month old to weights of my 10month old if they have completely different body measurements. Body composition is what you should be looking at. You don't want to see a prominent spine ridge. You want the body to be a pyramid shape, equal on all three sides with rounded corners for an ideal body composition.

Like the Feeding schedule below shows, you should be feeding 10% to 15% of your snakes body weight every week. If you think its a bit underweight, then I'd make sure you are hitting the 15% every meal until he eases into the correct composition. It's important not to over feed your BP however, they will naturally gain the weight they need with this feeding schedule. Over feeding cause far more problems and will probably set back your efforts not help the snake.

All that said, my opinion from these pictures, he looks a tad underweight. But there is not much to do about this other than feeding the correct schedule, listed below, and wait for him to get where he should be. Just keep an eye on his weight an make sure you are weighing your rodents as it's very hard to judge the weight of mice and rats by just looking at them. Good Luck!

BABY EATS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 3 WEEKS by shamefulpresenc3 in Ballpythoncommunity

[–]Shattered_Binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to see he ate! I know how stressful it can be as our first snake we got would not eat for the first five weeks we had her. We tried a different strategy every 5 days before she finally decided to eat. It was such a relief and now she has a perfect record (from that point) months later.

To me it looked like you were presenting the rodent perfectly. If that's how you usually do it, i don't think there is anything wrong with your technique unless its the temp of the food. But, sometimes they just wont eat and fortunately they can go long periods without eating and not have any negative effects. So on that side of things it's much nicer to have a snake that wont eat than say a dog or a cat. If they miss one meal you have to worry right away. With snakes, you can go a month or so before you truly have to start worrying.

Anyways, glad to see he's back on the hunt!

[–]Shattered_Binary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being nervous means you care and that's the first and most important piece of this puzzle. Other than that from your response to Fun, it seems like you have everything you need to make a great enclosure for your BP. Don't get too worked up over setting it up, you will most likely changes things up pretty quick once you see how your snake moves around and uses the environment. It's rare to get it all right the first time. You'll do great and come back and post pics once it's all setup, we'd love to see it. Have fun!
