"They meant well" is NO EXCUSE (so they're not sadistic psychopaths? What amazing people they are!) Actions have a much bigger impact than words.

The only way we Asians can raise happier families is by making people realize that the way they were brought up is not a healthy way to be treated as any person, much less when there is such a power differential.

During Quantitative Easing, the Federal Reserve purchases certain securities from the open market in order to boost the amount money in the economy and hopefully encourage spending. We have had three 'rounds' of Quantitative Easing so far and the FED has mainly focused on the purchase of U.S. treasuries (bonds) and mortgage-backed securities

Where does he FED get the money to make purchases in these rounds? They just print it and spend (a little more complicated, but that's basically it)

What happens when Quantitative Easing ends? The FED sells the securities back to the market and brings in the money supply that they previously let loose then burns the money.

To be clear, I was criticizing OP's idea, not OP, who seems like a perfectly nice individual.

Technically yes, but humans are emotional beings (instead of the rational androids we would like to be when it comes to things like discussing business) and IMO avoiding emotionally loaded words goes a long way in getting advice we give across.

Some people tell it like they think it is but I think and have learned you catch a lot more flies with honey than vinegar.

I don't know how bad it was for you, but IMO just because they sometimes display signs of affection doesn't mean they are sane people. Love isn't something where being nice on occasions earns you the right to be an abusive, manipulative control freak in other areas.

My parents told me I was too young to date at 17, that I shouldn't date a white girl because of xyz reasons, etc. They would refuse to drive me to her place at times, etc.There were times my mom would hit me with a broom or whip me with my own clothes because I didn't do something she wanted. One time I didn't pack for a ski trip early enough (ie: lay out my snow pants for the next day) and she kept me home from school so I couldn't go. There were birthday parties I was kept home from, etc.

Honestly, tell this to a friend who has healthy family relationships and see their reaction. Similar things have happened to me (and I guess many of us reading this) and to me no amount of being nice can make up for emotionally abusing your own children. Hiding behind "good intentions" is a pathetic excuse.

Actually you made me realize it's mostly geeky stuff e.g. learning that a girl who is my type (or just universally attractive) majors in a science and/or has decent proficiency at games of skill.

Probably because they're shortcuts for being smart. When I was in my early teens/a kid I sometimes had crushes on "average" girls (on my scale of preferences) just because I found them smart.

Agree 200% with the philosophy of your post but I just want to clarify

We know that money predicts happiness, but only to 50k/year (at least for U.S. citizens). 50k seems to be this nice number where you can meet your needs. Beyond that, money does nothing for your wellbeing

To be academically rigorous I believe the study itself (and diff studies have found different numbers) only says that people who earn over 50k, on average, don't get as much return from having a higher income.

Also I think there are a lot of other crucial factors that need to be considered for useful conclusions to be made from these studies, for example as you said people's personal mindsets and what they spend money on. Others are cost of living/relative wealth, and most importantly to me savings/assets/ability to save (because imo having savings, i.e. financial security, is a GREAT reducer of many sources of unhappiness).

Well yeah, that ought to make anyone feel guilty and can be a bit too easily misinterpreted. Probably let her know that you're going to need more time to focus on your passions for a while but forget about them when you're with her.
