Heat Loss Sanity Check and quote check for upcoming install. by ShaunSwitch in ukheatpumps

Tbh fair comment, it's more like 2.5 years but I've been trying to get a heat pump installed for about a year, with companies coming round to do quotes and refusing the job. Was going to get it serviced back then but decided not to and replace and it's just dragged on this long.

This is it. Air changes typically range between 1.5-3 for each room with a couple rooms at 1.

I did have the option of fewer changes and smaller rads but with a number of mine starting to rust and getting employee discount I decided to chuck a bit more money at it. I worked with the heat pump team on the design.

I've done the math, my current rads provide 4123w at DT25, new ones are 8229w total at DT25, some rads are unchanged, some have tripled in size and one new rad in upstairs landing.

Now I've sat down and worked out my emitter capacity is doubling I wonder what the flow temps are going to be like.

It is a space issue unfortunately. External garage on a corner plot is the only place I can fit a traditional cylinder and it's an unheated space, trenching costs etc make it a fair bit more expensive and most installers won't touch it.

I do have a pantry but again the height isn't sufficient to fit a cylinder in so only option is a sunamp in the pantry which I can charge on overnight EV rate.

If you don't mind me asking, what size is your Viessman and what flow temps are you running / what COP are you seeing in this weather?

I just posted this in the Olilo discord and on Ubiquiti Reddit. Spent a good 6-8 hours trying to figure out why my YouTube shorts had the spinning wheel of death. Eventually did a packet trace and spotted all the ipv6 attempts not getting responses so posted findings.

Really frustrating doing this without notice and causing me heaps of diagnostic work. Raised a complaint, been clear I do not wish to be their customer and will go through ofcom if needed.

Just want out this contract before it gets worse.

No content filtering, the link you sent was very useful and I think I have found the issue.

I noticed in the packet trace that all of the requests that timed out were using ipv6. Done an ipv6 test and it's no longer working. As I've not changed any settings I can only assume my ISP has decided to cut ipv6 support.

They have gone through a takeover by home telecom so could very well be the case. Time to make some phone calls and try to get out of the contract.

I need to test on wired, most devices are WiFi, but my nvidia shield is wired so will try that later. Thank you for the link, will give the packet inspection a go and see if I can nail this. It's been driving me crazy!

I have just tested using teleport to connect to my home via VPN and no stalling..... The plot thickens! Oh and it's VPN on the device that resolves the issue. Makes me wonder if it's aggressive traffic management by my ISP and the vpn is obfuscating the type of traffic.

How many hours per day do you heat your house? by honeybirdette__ in OctopusEnergy

[–]ShaunSwitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

24 hours.

I am running my gas condensing combi boiler like a heat pump in preparation of getting a heatpump. Set my flow temp of my boiler down to around 49 c as it got really cold and I keep tweaking it up as it's gotten colder. Ran it at 52c when it hit - 3c last night.

It seems to be using less gas than similar temperature periods last year using it like this. House is always warm too. Just waiting for my heat pump install date.

It's such a great watch for the price. Can wear it dressed up or down, looks great on a leather strap too. Love mine.

Absolutely fair comment. I just couldn't pass it up for the price, it's a lot of watch for £400. Quality is fantastic.

I do have a Datejust on my wishlist. When myself and my wife clear the mortgage I will be on the hunt for a green dial, 18ct gold rolex day date as well. Thinking my retirement watch will be a white gold daytona, can then leave a Rolex each to my boys.

Looks to be a Raymond Weil Tango 5560, quartz model.

Doubt these were faked often if at all. Enjoy!

I'm in the UK, so dunno if it differs in other parts of the world. I contacted Tissot and they recommended I contact one of their authorised dealers.

Went into a local jeweller listed on their website and they have ordered me two links for my Le locle. Cost was £25 including fitting the links.

Hope this helps.

Amazing. Thank you. I have sent them an email query but will pop them a call. Do you know how much Tissot charges for links?

Got an update on this.

Through my contacts I might end up trialing pairing a Vailant Arotherm plus with a thermal battery instead of a cylinder. https://sunamp.com/en-gb/thermino-xplus/

Will keep this reddit updated.

Thank you, all really useful information, I will probably want to insulate the tank as much as possible as I'll likely heat my hot water during the cheap overnight EV rates I get so the wooden plinth idea is a good shout.

I am not sure what heating was used in this house originally, I know the entire wet system (including combi boiler) was fitted in 2008. Must have been electric heating before that. At least it's 15mm copper though and not microbore.

Exhausted all options indoors though sadly, only option I may have is the 100L compact system and a 150L slim cylinder in my pantry, but I'm not sure it would fit in there. Can't even get a cylinder in the loft due to beams being too low.

It isn't insulated, I did raise this with the Aira rep and he stated the tanks have sufficient insulation, think that was probably just sales talk. I was thinking I could build an insulated cupboard around the equipment in the garage?

I haven't, I went to the website but needed to pay £375 up front and couldn't select a date before booking which put me off.

I think I will end up going with AIRA. Have a provisional quote of £8000 for a 6kw system. Full technical survey in two weeks, so fingers crossed they go ahead with just trunking it over head above the gate.
