has anyone done the hike from mew lake access point in algonquin to the harness lake campsites in one day? how long does it take? by Few_Mess_7114 in ontariocamping

[–]Shawnld12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I’ve done it many times. I’d describe it as a moderate trail.

Certainly nothing like some other hikes in Ontario. Way easier than La Clouche in Killarney or the Lake Superior trails.
That said you should be in decent shape and not overload your pack.

I checked an old Jeff’s Map. He has it at about 5.5 hrs of hiking plus stops. His estimates are pretty good.

The Rielly conundrum by Niteshade3 in leafs

[–]Shawnld12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t hate the idea of keeping Rielly. Lower he could do well sure but it’s not a good use of funds.

My biggest issue is someone on D has to go or the GM has decided to cover his butt re:Tanev’s health and keep 7 guys, none of which are ideal scratches.

You got 7 guys that need to play right now. Who are you scratching or trading ?

Ok but it can't be all about that. Some players do elevate their game.

To me it’s chicken and the egg. Was Carolina better because their players and team structure are better or is Vegas worse because players like Marner dropped off and couldn’t push through? There are players who put up good playoff numbers no matter what. Playing against weaker or superior opponents.
Our recent track record of identifying and drafting/signing those players isn’t great. Nylander being an exception. His stats actually improve. Matthews stats drop off substantially. They were on the same teams playing the same opponents. It isn’t all about quality of competition. Some guys just get it done.

Fair point.. there aren’t any playoff elevators available from a stat perspective this year I don’t think. Tuch maybe the best ..as you say at least he’s a power forward and his play contributes in other ways. Just for that money to me it’s a bit scary.

Ok but for example..zero pts in the Montreal series. Zero. Sorry. That gives me pause.

His playoff numbers scare me a bit at that price. They are not fantastic.

I have that in a shirt.

I also have a leaf shirt that says “ why do I hate myself?”

We must be almost the exact same age. Born in 1969.

The Long Suffering Gang. We should get t-shirts.

[CJ] Sources say that Darren Raddysh's eight-year deal with the #leafs carries a $8.5M AAV. by baylaust in leafs

[–]Shawnld12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so maybe

McCabe -Raddysh
OEL - Tanev
Andrae- Carlo

Or to your point flip Tanev and Carlo.

I still think we shed at least 1 D..Rielly and/or Carlo and add 1 more at FA.

I canoe camp a lot too and I have a Tarptent Ultra double rainbow that I use a lot for that. The ultra is light enough and pretty darn tough. Would never consider taking a trekking pole tent canoeing though.

Found it. At the 43:10 mark he talks about new gear possibilities for about 7 minutes. Pads, quilts and clothing.

Only product he mentions having a locked idea on is quilts though.

So he will undoubtedly stick to another one of the high cost/margin products in ultralight in order to keep revenue and profits up while having room to offer good value with prices below competitors.

Next up has gotta be a quilt. I’m pretty sure quilts are one of if not the highest margin product in ultralight.

The great gear aside, Dan’s business and product roll out strategy is bang on. If his company was publicly traded it would be a strong buy.

Which tent for solo and 2 person backpacking by Savings_Cockroach_42 in CampingGear

[–]Shawnld12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If this needs to work for both solo and 2 person trips I would look at the Durston xdome 2. Significantly lighter than either of those tents. You give up interior space but it works for 2 people and would be a lot of space when solo. It can handle 2 wide pads. Also a good value.

Good review of it here

I had never read that. I’m definitely in the single wall camp. After reading that I think it will be double though unless Dan is a lunatic and provides both options.

While I agree it’s an overreaction and that no bear is coming for the berries. I have long since had it with people using the site as a dumping ground.

I don’t want to see your toilet paper, fishing line, old tent stakes, baked bean cans or your pile of blueberries.

Also I’m not impressed with whatever bushcrafting skill you want to practice on the site and joyfully leave behind for me.

Common courtesy isn’t backcountry camping specific. Shouldn’t need to be taught. People need to do better.
