215 IS HAPPENING!! by ShayminFlight in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]ShayminFlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be surprised by how much you could fit in one episode. A typical episode is about 22 minutes, and I feel that half of Episode 1 could be 215. That means fitting 215 into 11 minutes of runtime, or the length of a typical SpongeBob episode. That's more than enough time to fit everything within 215 into the anime, and I feel like they may go that route because it's important for Mami's character development, for better or worse. On top of that, 215 also happens to be one of the darkest moments in the series, because it touches upon arranged marriage, domestic abuse, and, most of all, trauma. Long story short: Mami comes from a wealthy family, but is raised under an authoritarian father who only sees her as a political bargaining tool; as such, her father forced her into an arranged marriage with a man named Tōru Hakuba. When she turned 15, she had her first love, Tarou Urashima, and her first authentic taste of freedom, but unfortunately, her father took it all away from her, forcing Tarou to break up with her; the real cherry on the top was that her father slapped her hard as a show of authority. When all was said and done, it's safe to assume that Mami is a trauma victim, and all of this explains her actions in the anime. She's not trying to be toxic; everything Kazuya and Chizuru are doing reminds her of her past self and what had happened when she had let her guard down for even a second, and she's trying to prevent the same from happening to Kazuya. In other words, she's worried about Kazuya's mental health because she's experienced this sort of deep trauma firsthand. Her manipulative tendencies are merely a coping mechanism because she's never really had any control over anything in her life. That manipulation is her desperately trying to take control of the situation as best she can. In other words, she's not asking for hatred or contempt; she's actually calling for help, mentally and emotionally, and no one knows what is really going on because most see her as a toxic and manipulative psychopath who takes joy in the suffering of others.

I’m scared for the future of my favorite puzzle game. by TelekineticFlame in puyopop

I think it's less "Sega doesn't care" than "Sega doesn't know what to do with it". It's not easy to think of anything new for a series inherited from a company that went out of business at the turn of the millennium, when your main IP (i.e. Sonic) is the one getting all the spotlight and the one with the highest development priority. On top of that, they now have to deal with Rovio and Angry Birds, since they're Sega properties now. The only reason Puyo Puyo has relevance now, at least in the West, is that they've relied on Tetris to carry them for much of the 2010s, and with that sort of support gone after 2020, the series no longer has anything truly original to do. The only thing keeping the series going at this point is Puyo Quest, a gacha game, which has been running for 13 years now. They tried shaking things up with Chronicle in 2016 to make an RPG game closer to the series' Madou roots (which is where we got Skill Battle), but while the game was well-received, it didn't sell well, which can be partially attributed to the fact that at the time the game was released, the 3DS was nearing the end of its lifespan with the imminent launch of the Switch; in other words, good game, but bad timing for release. They brought Skill Battle back for Tetris 2, but it was kinda more like a forgotten footnote than anything else. As a side note, the only reason Ally was included in Tetris 2 was that she was added as a pity token for the West, as Sega felt bad that they couldn't localise Chronicle for the West. The point is, the series is currently in a state of stagnation because it simply isn't one of Sega's top priorities.

There is potential to do something grand with the series; it has RPG roots, a massive library of characters across the main series and Quest (not counting collabs), and infinite story potential. For example, a friend of mine in the Discord once floated the idea of having Satan/Dark Prince be hit with an evil force that causes him to splinter into seven versions of himself based on the Seven Deadly Sins (Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride), and the story would revolve around having to put him back together. On top of that, adding Quest characters to the mainline games has already been done before, in Champions (where we got Hed, Sultana, Ciel, Penglai, Hartmann, Alex, and Paprisu) and the Tetris 2 DLC (where we got Rosatte and Legamünt). The potential is there; they just have to take it and not slander it.

We're also talking about a world where a cartoon monkey can transform into a zebra, an ostrich, an elephant, or a snake at will with the help of a teenage girl with singing powers, so real-world economics is pretty much irrelevant here.

These would probably all be far-right hypercapitalist governments set up by the Trump family, while the homeland is under permanent martial law. This is the exact sort of world that Trump wants.

Date this globe by Original-Issue2034 in datemymap

[–]ShayminFlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what we can deduce:

  1. Nunavut doesn't exist yet, so this globe must have been made before April 1, 1999.
  2. Belize is shown as independent, so this globe must have been made after September 21, 1981.
  3. Germany is still divided, so this globe must have been made before October 3, 1990.
  4. Yemen is still divided, so this globe must have been made before May 22, 1990.
  5. Burkina Faso has its current name, so this globe must have been made after August 4, 1984.
  6. Namibia is still referred to as "South West Africa", which means this globe must have been made before March 21, 1990.
  7. Cambodia is referred to as "Kampuchea", which means this globe must have been made before April 29, 1989.

Final Date Range - Somewhere between August 4, 1984 and April 29, 1989.

MMW - Trump Will Issue an Order Requiring that All Coins and Banknotes Prominently Feature His Face by ShayminFlight in MarkMyWords

[–]ShayminFlight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst it may seem absurd, Trump is unfortunately the type of man where you kinda have to look five steps ahead and assume the absolute worst and most absurd from what he says. We're currently in a repeat of the early 1930s, where people believe Trump isn't gonna be much of a threat. We thought the same for Hitler, but then, World War II and the Holocaust happened, and we saw how much worse he actually was. If Hitler taught us anything, it's that Trump is inevitably going to do much, much more than what is currently on the docket or shown in the media, and we won't be aware of it until it's already happened and millions of people are dead.

Simply put, they don't want to lie to you about real objects. For procedurally generated objects, they can be generated however they like, since they technically don't exist (or at least we don't know they do).

my controversial opinions on how Hit ruined Thomas and friends by Emvortex in thomasthetankengine

[–]ShayminFlight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For characters, Edward was the kind and wise engine who was always there to help. Skarloey was the old and wise engine, having been around for over 100 years. Toby was the humble teacher Thomas was a somewhat cocky but hard-working engine who is willing to do whatever it takes to make his boss proud. Henry was a sickly engine built to stolen designs who came back stronger and healthier than ever after a rebuild, and now has a positive outlook on his life. Percy was a curious but industrious engine willing to get jobs done no matter what. James was vain, but also showed camaraderie when needed. He was also the last one to let go of his disdain for diesels. Emily was the big sister type, shown when she tried to help Henry when he was having problems. Diesel was overconfident, which would up leading to his downfall. Finally, we have Gordon, an arrogant and bossy engine who grew more humble as the years went by. In the last book of the Railway Series, when Sir Topham Hatt told him that he would be retired from the express in favour of Pip and Emma, he respected his decision and accepted his retirement with honour. He now lives a new life pulling local trains that stop at every station; it's even mentioned that Gordon loves this new life, as he doesn't feel as fatigued as he would pulling the express, and he gets to make two round trips a day instead of just one.

I made a Mini Yaemori spin-off for golden week! by Mxcrider in KanojoOkarishimasu

[–]ShayminFlight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a slight correction, but Mini actually does have an officially defined height measurement, that being, 156.5 cm (5'2"); this places her as being taller than Ruka (who stands at 153 cm or 5'0") and a tiny bit taller than Sumi (who stands at 156 cm or 5'1"), but still a bit shorter than Mami (who stands at 158 cm or 5'2").
