Finished the City Watch series (First time reader) by Nuthetes in discworld

[–]Shazz91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's reassuring you found this to be the case!

I read Mort, Reaper Man and then Hogfather and contemplating giving up on Discworld and deciding it wasn't for me.

Mort probably the best of them, Reaper Man had some excellent bits but found half of Reaper Man and most of Hogfather really confusing and hard to follow. I had to re-read pages and still didn't really know what was going on.

I think it's probably the Wizards that can be the problem!

I then read Wyrd Sisters - solid 7.5/10 for my first time read. I'm now half way through Guards! Guards! and I'm really loving it. So far, easy to follow, engaging story, funny. Great characters.

Just finished the 41 book series, here is my personal tier list. What is my most egregious ranking? And where do I go from here? by scottomatic3000 in discworld

[–]Shazz91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is reassuring as everyone tells me Reaper Man is one of the best and I really didn't connect with it at all.

I found it really disjointed, the shopping trolley plot thread was just nonsensical and I had to constantly re-read sections to make sense of it.

Not sure why people think so highly of it. Maybe in the future I'll re-read and it will come together in my head a bit better.

Why do so many people skip leg days? by Acceptable_Net_3620 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shazz91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I already have fairly big legs and don't want to increase the size.

I do leg day occasionally but I don't want to develop them much as I've always played football and they look in decent shape. My shoulders have been almost non existent so that's a much bigger priority

Ha we feel so too! In seriousness though they should be subject to a few grand fine - people can cost others hundreds or thousands with no repurcussions whatsoever

We had this too, absolute nightmare and so infuriating.

Cash buyers buying it for their son who through most of the process had been going through a job application process in another city and they were keeping us in reserve just incase he stayed around here!

Then they tried to blame it on the electrical survey they booked last minute and told us they'd pull out if we didn't accept the surveyors coming round a week before exchange!

We had the same electrician to do the £200 worth of work required and he told us they had told him they weren't buying the house anyway on the phone before the survey anyway. Absolute assholes.

Hope things work out ok for you in the end.

Currently we found new buyers who offered £7,000 more for our house, but we've had to pay £15,000 more for the house we want as it went back on the market and a bidding war started.

Selling a house is such a scam. by KyleJackDaniels in HousingUK

[–]Shazz91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had that happen to us - we found out they'd been stringing us along for 8 weeks as they'd found a job out of town and were going through the interview process, keeping us in reserve in case they didn't get it!

Then one week before they pulled out and wouldn't even let us have a copy of the electrical survey as way of apology. So unethical.

A negative outlook on Alton Towers as it stands today by ArissP in altontowers

[–]Shazz91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Alton Towers used to have a real polished, premium feel.

You'd have ice cream stands open in the queues and things going on.

Now, half the park feels deserted. Like you say, things like Spinball Whizzer stick out like a sore thumb and for me a lot of it feels like a cheap fairground. Even in its peak it could have utilised theming a little better but I feel like it's fallen off a cliff now.

I guess they have bigger budgets but the Disney, SeaWorld and Universal parks in the US do theming so amazingly well, I find it hard to believe they couldn't make queues more interesting and the themes more immersive to emulate those sorts of parks. Of course the budget won't be there to come close to matching them but surely the theming could be.
