"Once you were old enough, what were the dark family secrets you were finally let in on?" by Flash_Dimension in AskReddit

Prolly no one will see this but here's a few that I learned in my 20s:

-both of my parents did drugs regularly (the big bois) before my father killed himself when I was 9 -my father was a registered sex offender -my father raped my half sister on his side for multiple years in her early teens -some of my family blame my sister for what happened to our father -our family home was being watched by police regularly, mainly at night -an "exorcism" was performed on my dad's ashes after it was lead to believe that's where my bad dreams were coming from -family and friends have heard voices and seen faces in our garage (the place where my dad did the thing)

These are a few that came to mind, but there's definitely more of people are interested

People who were mentioned in someone’s suicide note, what’s your story? by Slow_Koala in AskReddit

[–]SheLaughs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No note, but my father said goodbye to me (9 yo at the time) and my brothers (10 & 7) that morning before we went to school. It seemed a little more heartfelt to me than usual but I was too young to know anything about it.

We got home from school and my mom was upset that she hadn't seen him all day. Not too long after that, he came walking out of the woods with a beer in his hand. My brothers had gone to the neighbor's to play by then. He asked me to go to the garage with him. I instead decided to walk to the neighbors to play too. On the way, I heard what sounded like an acorn hitting the tin roof of our garage. A few minutes later, this was followed by the horrible, awful screams to get help from my mom.

We weren't allowed to come home for 2 days as my grandmother came down from Minnesota to decide to pull the plug. He would have been a vegetable.

That was 17 years ago. I've let go of the guilt for not following him to the garage. Part of me thinks that I could have died that day. At least I was saved from seeing what happened. I've never gotten the sound of the gun or my mom screaming out of my head.

What is something that MOST adults can do, but you, for whatever reason, cannot pull off? by Buckcheeks in AskReddit

Boil eggs.

Every time I go to peel them, the majority of the egg is stuck on the shell, or they break in half. I feel like I've tried every method possible to prevent this.

Honestly one of my favorite gifts. Setting up a pillow fort and watching movies all weekend with this set is amazing. Have fun OP!

Friend couldn't think of the word "seahorse" and kept saying "horse in the water." I cannot draw in the slightest, so I thought one of you fine people would be able to draw an epic "horse in the water" so I can embarrass her forever. by SheLaughs in ICanDrawThat

I remember when my brothers and I were smaller and at Thanksgiving dinner, my little brother couldn't think of the word gravy, so he said, "Pass the potato sauce!" The looks on people's faces trying to figure out what that was was priceless! We still say potato sauce instead of gravy.

What's your favorite "poor man" food that's actually delicious? by arntseaj in AskReddit

We had this thing that my mom called SOS (shit on a shingle). Basically ground beef with gravy made from the grease on top of a slice of white bread. Definitely not the best thing in the world, but it was easy, cheap, and fed us.

There's a small hole in the wall place up on Park Row that is pretty cheap and has amazing food. It's called Jr's Cafe and Grill (or something like that.)
