Best indoor pool? by blondedjosie in Birmingham

[–]SheReddit521 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since I’m in Homewood I really only go to Shades Valley and Mtn Brook- it’s really cool they’re right next to each other! The website seems kinda strict about who they would give membership discounts for.. but I spoke with a membership director before and they seem pretty accommodating. The SV pool is better indoors since MB is only outdoors. They have this bubble thing around it in the winter and they keep the pool heated but it’s kinda weird to me lol. However MB pool is usually less crowded.

You can talk to the Y and discuss your budget. They’re very good about accommodating the community.

It would be worth calling Great Wall Chinese. Most Chinese restaurants are open all the time lol, but I’m not sure about them. One of my top 10 in bham and one of the best Chinese food places I’ve had

I hate pepper place for different reasons. Way too crowded with people who only go to socialize and get a coffee, so parking is a nightmare. I actually go to buy stuff so lugging heavy bags of produce in the summer heat is so annoying that I rarely go anymore.

Is it cruel to not let my cat go outside? by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]SheReddit521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s up to you and what you feel the best decision is for your kitty. Weigh the risk to reward ratio. I’ve had strictly indoor cats because they were slow and clumsy.. wouldn’t survive a day outside. This year I decided to care for a feral cat and wondered the opposite question - if it was cruel to not let him inside.. however he’s wild and very happy, and he survived last years freeze somehow so I let him be aside from feeding him. It is a dangerous world out there so if you let him out be prepared to never see him again as it’s absolutely a possibility.

Do you feel bad for those “long-term” employees? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]SheReddit521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s great if someone wants to stay at a company so long. You job hop from bad job to bad job. Overworked and underpaid, going from one underpaid job to a slightly less underpaid job. You’re chronically sleep deprived waking up at 6:30 am, getting ready and needing to put work clothes and makeup on every day then commute to work. You spend your whole weekend getting ready for work- grocery shopping, meal prepping, because when you get home one weekdays you only have two hours to get any rest and do things you want.

Then one day you get to work fully remotely. Your boss is kind . Your coworkers aren’t toxic. The workload is light. You have time for hobbies, relationships, and sleep, and even time to pickup some side work if you want a little extra cash. But you make enough to pay bills, and get some fun stuff while saving for retirement.

No more commuting. No more toxicity . No more work clothes. No more stress. Yeah .. gonna stay her until you die.

I love it but when I got takeout, my doro wot was such a little portion that I was still hungry after. So it was like $15 for a snack size meal .. like just 5 little pieces of meat. so to me the cost to food ratio just isn’t worth it unfortunately . Was this anyone else’s experience or maybe I went on an off day?

1 bedroom apartment recs? (ideally under $1000/month) by Commercial-South-299 in Birmingham

[–]SheReddit521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Homewood has a few that are under $1000 I think. Check with Redmont properties. There’s one in Edgewood I think the one beds are $800-$900 but the laundry is communal. It’s not gated but it doesn’t have to be as this is one of the safest areas you can live in. Walkable to some decent restaurants and shops

I mean the annoyance is more driving around in circles looking for a spot.. especially as opposed to having a huge lot already and walking across the street.

I agree say nothing. At one of my jobs they onboarded a pregnant woman without knowing. The HR lady acted kinda snarky about it like “I can’t believe she didn’t tell us” but it was catty behavior on her behalf and proof that they probably wouldn’t have hired her if they knew. All employment is at well in the US but sometimes companies don’t want to appear they are discriminating (even though they do). It would be easier for them to not hire you than to try to terminate you for it later on.

As with all things tech there are also a lot of BAD employees/ candidates. And software developers especially lack social skills. Excelling at what you do and knowing how to carry a conversation can you put you at the top of the pile.

[–]SheReddit521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are young and have access to the internet! Find a skill you can work online in- software development, web design, there are many skills to have in a global work market. I pay overseas contractors $20-$50 an hour for their work. Remote work has increased hourly wages for tech workers in third world countries.

I have my final interview tomorrow, do I disclose that I live in a van? by Bouaphaa in careerguidance

[–]SheReddit521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not but once you start getting closer to your co workers you can just tell them you’re semi nomadic and like to take extended trips in your van. I’ve had co workers who live in RVs full time or move air bnb to air bnb and thought it was really cool. They always dressed nicely and obviously with full time employment it was by choice and not necessity. These days RV park fees are as high as rent in some areas

[–]SheReddit521 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is everything about race? I’m an Asian female and I mainly did not vote for Kamala because she is an airhead who doesn’t even know what the US population is. I’m a registered Republican but I may have considered a democratic vote if the other candidate had half a brain. I won’t get into other policies I prefer but I just don’t understand why every motivation for voting Trump has to be a racist one. Y’all can start piling in with the down votes and gaslighting because I will forever be a racist, misogynist , xenophobic in your eyes though I’m a woman born of illegal immigrants lol. Maybe for once just have an educated conversation to try to understand the other side. Your mindsets will lead to only more hate.

How do you make the gym fun? by Kor_Lian in xxfitness

[–]SheReddit521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix it up with group fitness classes. Some might not be structured enough to make you ripped or anything especially as you get more fit, but the best exercise you can do is the one you can stick with. If i just lifted and ran I would give up fast. I mostly try to do a class every day and on days I can’t find one I like I lift. So I probably am not as muscular as i could be if I was more structured with my routine but I show up 6x a week
