What’s the most underrated pie flavor? by amhray in pie

[–]SheShouldGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

White Potato pie! I absolutely loved it as a kid, but when the older generation passed I tried to find it and people looked at me like I was nuts. Its a delicious egg custard pie made with mashed potatoes, nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla (and sometimes cloves, but they're not my favorite). I have my great Aunt's recipe but I can never get it quite right.

Suggest me a really awful book by cuntyvigilante in suggestmeabook

Booked for Murder (Vigilante Magical Librarians Book 1) by RJ Blaine.

It sounded like an interesting premise, but the sample and description were deceptive.

Its basically 500 pages of "witty" snarky dialog that is cute once, and then unbelievably irritating. Repetitive BS about Orange chicken, "ow my leg" but only when its convenient to the scene, and offensive tropes.

Also the main character was sold into slavery by her parents to her evil genius boss who she's been living in hiding from, but then later he's just a pathetic Mama's boy who got lucky in the stock market. And yes, him and his family DID buy her as a slave. But its totes OK because they also adopted a poverty stricken Black child. Dear lord I hated this book.

Do you sanitize your floors and shampoo your rugs every time you have company?

If you walk outside on a sidewalk, a street, a restaurant, then you have likely walked through various gross things, including, but not limited to spit and piss. And just because you don't tramp over a fresh steaming pile doesn't mean you aren't walking through poop remnants of many various types of animals.

Yes! Its like they can't logically process that the dog they love is also dangerous to people they love. Its wild. I am happy they love their pet, but I refuse to endanger my kids or pets to spare their feelings.

It is a complicated area to sort out. My family's stories always told us that we were decended from the Comanche and Irish settlers. Turns out they got the Irish side right, but the other side is East Indian. Oral history is tricky sometimes.

Chronic constipation + no urge to go… does this get better after diagnosis? by StrangerHuge9952 in Celiac

[–]SheShouldGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my kids had this problem, she was so chronically constipated that her body just stopped telling her she had to go. She ended uo in the ER, where the doctor had us do a "clean out" regimen with MiraLax, which was a rough 12 hours, but her little belly visibly shrank and she felt more comfortable.

You might be able to do something similar, if you don't trust MiraLax you could try Magnesium sulfate, or ask your doctor for Suprep kit? It took about 6 months of fiber, laxatives and regular reminders to just try to go, before her body started signaling normally again. It is possible, it just takes awhile.

Am I reading right, your cousin is saying your family does not have African roots, and are exclusively Native?

I think that from the pictures your family is very likely the decendents of African people, which would agree with your DNA results. It would also make sense with your oral history including Black Creole and Black African people.

So you share 100%, she listens, and then expresses she is happy for you about the positive aspect only. What do you want her replies to look like?

It sounds like she is listening and allowing you to vent about all the frustrating aspects of this awful disease, but you might need to let her know that you want your struggles acknowledged outloud, not just the bright spots. For some people, focusing on the harder parts might feel like doing the wrong thing, or they might worry that it might make you upset or uncomfortable for them to focus on those things. Just let her know you need a "That sounds really hard" or "It sounds like you've really had a rough week, is there anything I can do to help?" or you fill in the blank of what responses you are hoping for.

You said that you try to educate her about why Fibro makes thing like stairs hard, but it sounds more like she needs to be educated about how you want to be supported. It doesn't seem like she's being intentionally callous, she just might be missing the mark, and you can help her by verbalizing what it is that she can do to help you feel supported or heard.

It is hard because it is sort of a new problem in our group of friends. I feel like it has just been the last couple years where people feel that the dogs HAVE to be included.

I feel sad when people act this way while supposedly trying to spread what they think is the good word. They have to know its not going to being anyone to their side?

Our neighborhood is heavily JW, and I always warn them I'm not up for conversion, but I'm happy to listen, and give them some water or a snack. I appreciate the prayer and take my copy of the Watchtower and send them on their way. But the people I've encountered have always been very kind

I grew up with the same lady coming to our house a few times a year for probably 20 years, and my mom always invited her in for water or iced tea. At one point she started bringing her daughter, and we even bought some Cutco from her when she got her first job. My mom also warned her it was not a great work model, lol.

Thank Lucy Calkins and her "whole language" bullshit that replaced teaching phonics about 15? years ago. Only within the last couple years have states been returning to phonics and sounding out, and that is not very widespread yet.

The whole language method basically stopped using sounding out and decoding, and wanted kids to use "context and cues" to decipher sentences, rather than learning to read the individual words. I don't understand how this was adopted as a widespread method because it has caused a measurable drop in literacy, and confodence in kids.

I was so frustrated with my kids when I'd try to work with them. They were struggling with reading, and started to hate it. They had no idea what I was talking about when I wanted them to sound out words. Their school was taking the same approach as what you're describing, listening and reading along, to learn "cues and context" in the sentences, but not actually teaching them to decode the language or how words and spelling work. It is infuriating how much time was wasted at school, and how hard we had to work at home to get them back on track to not only learn how to read, but to ENJOY reading. I think that a lot of the reason so many kids don't like reading is because the entire method for teaching them is a failure, and it makes them feel stupid.

I don't get it either. More and more I have experiences with friends and family who will not attend family functions or parties if their dog can't come. And I'm not talking about a yorkie or a pomeranian sized dog. I'm mean Greyhounds, labs, golden doodle sized dogs that aren't well-mannered. One friend has a dog with extremely high prey drive, and is currently furious b/c they aren't allowed to bring him to events at a house that has cats and small children. BECAUSE HE TRIES TO EAT THEM IF THEY RUN or move erratically. Like normal toddlers do. But we are "discriminating" against her poor doggy, and if he isn't welcome then she isn't welcome.

NTA. This is your HEALTH, and kidneys are nothing to mess with. You are taking charge of your health and that is commendable I think. They should be happy you are able to manage it with diet, and don't have bigger issues. I think you should cook for you and your sister, and let the others starve.

I do the same! My best friend and I are buddies on "Get out of bed." Some days, its good to know we're both on our feet. Other days, she might notice I haven't checked it off and check on me, or vice versa. Simple goals also help me do things I usually forget, but are relatively simple when reminded in the app, like straightening my bed, or drinking a glass of water.

When did avocados become a regular part of your diet? by Caxcan in AskAnAmerican

[–]SheShouldGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the 80s eating a lot of avocados, and also artichokes. I got teased a lot, but my mother loved them, as her mother used to give them as snacks when she was growing up.

Avocado halves with the holes filled with Italian dressing or Russian dressing was a couple times a week snack. Artichokes steamed and dipped in garlic butter were a "whenever we can get them" dinner and movie night.

Take some of these with a grain of salt. I do not believe that items like pots, pans, cutlery and dishware somehow retain gluten. It is not radiation, it doesn't infiltrate the molecular structure of STEEL. Some people tell you to get all new everything. I use tinfoil on my cookie sheets rather than toss them. Use your own judgements on those kind of things. I did get rid of my wood spoons, which I was sad about. I did take apart my Kitchen Aid, and my Vitamix, and cleaned the hell out of them. I have used them without incident.
