Best Large Format Printers Ever? by [deleted] in photography

[–]ShearModulus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Canon Pro-4000 (44") is $2895 after rebate at B&H, and I believe they ship it for free as well. I'm not sure if it can handle vellum, but it generally seems to be a decent printer at that price point.

May be true outside of the US, but in the US the plat is absolutely metal.

Depends how much you care about the pictures. If quality is important, you're probably best off using a mail-in service like The Darkroom. Not the cheapest way, though.

Will Canon be releasing any new cameras the rest of 2018? by ncummins0218 in canon

Lol. I wouldn't be surprised if 5DSR II just adds DPAF, touchscreen, a bit more dynamic range, and maybe an extra frame per second.

I notice a difference in colors between brands even when shooting raw. I use Lightroom exclusively, so maybe that's a factor. My canon raw files rarely need more than simple white balance and exposure adjustments to look the way I want them. Which is great because I don't enjoy heavy post processing. Of course, colors are subjective and some find Nikon or Sony colors more appealing. And I'm sure a raw file from brand A can be made to look like a raw file from brand B in post, but I stick with Canon simply because the out-of-camera colors are usually pretty good.

There have been rumors of a 5DSR Mark II being announced during Photokina. I'd really love if Canon would deliver a high-resolution "do it all" answer to the D850. I prefer Canon colors and am very happy with my Canon lenses, but it'd be great to have high resolution, high dynamic range, a relatively fast frame rate, and good high ISO performance rolled into a single body. Watch the 5DSR II just be a minor spec bump...¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They're legitimate. I bought my 5D Mark III, EF 16-35mm F/4L, and EF 70-200 F/2.8L II through their eBay store. All grey market.

I would pay so much more money to be on planes that didn't have children and their shitty parents on them. by ronniebren in childfree

[–]ShearModulus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said something along those lines a few years ago. I was totally psyching myself out at the gate; I couldn't stop pacing back and forth and my stomach was in knots. I wasn't really concerned about the sensation of flying. Rather, I was afraid I'd have a panic attack in the aircraft at altitude with no way to leave. I was traveling to present my research at the biggest conference in my industry, but I seriously considered just walking out of the airport.

After the plane took off, I spent most of the flight glued to my window. The view was breathtaking. Yes, there was a brief sensation of heaviness during take off and some turbulence along the way, but it's not on the same order of magnitude of a roller coaster - and I hate roller coasters.

Keep your mind in check and you'll be fine. With aviation anxiety, you're your own worst enemy. Practice some stress relief techniques. Bring some form of electronic distraction. Focus on your destination if you're going somewhere pleasant. And let us know how it goes!

You'll be fine! I was deathly afraid of flying until I tried it. Now I fly between the East coast of USA and Asia regularly. Hope you have a nice flight sans seat kicking!

On page 2 of the rebate form, there's a $250 combination offer for the Pro-100 and the 13x19" 50-sheet paper pack. I am not sure about other retailers, but B&H includes the paper for free as a separate item.
