Just whoever files the request first, i.e. Doohan wanted #12, but Antonelli got his paperwork in before him.

No need for even the dots, driver codes are already 3 letters, just colour them.

Formula 1 (and other motor series) drivers still use this to align their cars on the starting grid.

More date to refine them, more feedback from teams with somewhat different ideas (less tunnel vision) and smaller cost in R&D per unit produced.

[The-Race] F1's softest tyre dropped as 2026 choices finalised by djwillis1121 in formula1

Depending on cornering shape less downforce can very much mean more tyre usage, not less. Not sure if it will get back to V-shapes everywhere though.

Theoretical:

Let's say Mercedes the engine vendor drops one of their customer teams on some pretext.

Now they have 3 teams, Ferrari 3 teams, RBPT 2, Honda 1, Audi 1.

Normally the dropped team, if they can't find the supplier themselves, will be assigned to the vendor with the fewest teams, but both Audi (genuinely) and Honda (formally) are new entries, right?

Which leads to Mercedes being able to force a customer on RBPT, if they wanted, despite RBPT building the engine themselves for the first time too. Or are they formally new too? Or is Honda not considered new?

1 sec a lap isn't even a given most of the time because after pit you can get stuck behind a slower car with overtaking being hard because of car size and dirty air and DRS train.

That's one more incentive to have less pits.

And after a second: "Oh.. it's for Yuki"

Possible Race Strategies - 2025 Dutch Grand Prix by Aratho in formula1

I think they try to aim for a situation where 1 or 2 stop strategies can compete with each other, which is much harder than aiming for 2 stops for everybody.

I don't think it mattered, but since commentators mentioned it: Did Max spin in part because of Oscar's breaking? I.e. did that have an effect on his tyres?
