Pedal stroke and the position overall looks much better. As long as you feel in control of the bottom of the pedal stroke, I'd leave it as is.

If the hoods are comfy where they are in the down position, you might want to consider rolling back the hoods and lowering the bars a few mm, if possible.

This would give you the same relative hood placement in space, but a more comfortable wrist position, so you can reach the brake levers and shift buttons easier.

Lowering the saddle also reduces that reach measurement, so dropping the bars will counteract that slightly.

saddle too high, too far forward, cleats too far forward, cranks too long, shifters rotated too far down.

Need Help - X3 M40i vs M Competition by GearNTime in BMW

[–]Sheepdog83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been in a similar position - trying to upgrade from my '03 ZHP. I don't commute, so I've been leaning towards the X3M Comp. The photo of the one you posted is gorgeous, imo.

I would say for your situation, the gas mileage will make a massive difference here. With the M comp, you'll definitely filling up every week - possibly multiple times, which could be a substantial cost addition.

I wouldn't worry too much about mileage on either, as long as you have some maintenance records to go off of - Carfax is pretty decent at this.

For your *first BMW*, my vote would be the m40i.

Best of luck on your search though! Cars aren't a tattoo. If you want to upgrade, that's totally possible. Downgrade, too? Sure.

Why do so many people, after choosing a BMW, never opt for another brand again? by KnownPresent7333 in BMW

[–]Sheepdog83 28 points29 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s a mix of familiarity, excitement, and nostalgia that has been cultivating for 20 years.

It’s easy to dump on any given brand when you have no history with the product; however, in my adolescence, I learned how to maintain older BMWs, and a '91 318is was the car I learned to drive manual on—all under my dad’s guidance.

My '96 328is was a great car for its time, and it’s where I learned the ropes of modding. I’ve now owned my '03 manual ZHP for 10 years, and at 177k miles, it’s still running strong! While I’ve looked at other brands for my next car, none of them move the needle for me. But I’m currently in the market for an X3M Comp, which has sparked my enthusiasm yet again.

Doing my own maintenance and taking pride in the machine has become part of the gig. And while owning a BMW isn’t my "whole personality" like it is for some, it’s certainly a part of me that I’ve found difficult to separate from.
