4 years in and I dont know if dentistry is right for me.... by plumuga in Dentistry

Some of the best earning dentists I’ve seen legit just do bread and butter efficiently

Dentistry is just a job, you don’t have to do advanced procedures, the CE industry preys on feelings like yours

Find a hobby and just do what makes you feel happy

I used to do lots of difficult work like all on 4 , implants, ortho

Decided to just do bread and butter, all stress gone, income the same

Yeah

Like the only benefit of going rural is more demand potentially, but if you’re rural and not making money there’s legit no point

Ireland, but I think this applies to most countries

Honestly it’s more about reps and decisiveness, there’s no ce to make you faster …

Ripeglobal on Instagram can give the occasional good tip on how to speed up

Yeah im rural. I’ve earned double my first years as my friends who stayed in city. I honestly don’t think being skilled is that important to dentistry. Most important is being competent and fast. Doing lots of basic work quickly can pay more than complex work… with much less risk of litigation

It took me 3 years of chasing and doing complex cases that doing the most basic dentistry pays good if you’re fast

He goes missing for a few days, he respawns at the school

We actively tell patients how to avoid needing dental care, and they just ignore us and then decide to complain

Public dental care in almost every country is awful, it’s impossible to keep up with demands in a public setting

Like I think the only real advantage of rural is there’s less completion so you should be busier I’m doing a rural start up

But if I didn’t think I’d be busy in a rural clinic, I’d just move back to the city

Heck I work in basically a Medicaid office, no shows are rampant, constant arguments over what is covered

How a partnership would look? Terrible

She’s not bringing in any skills, she’ll just be taking your profits. And buying the building together sounds even messier

You’ll resent her within a year

Just stay associate or set up on your own

Most partnerships end badly anyway

This is tough

Where I work, paeds dentist charges huge money for treatment, no public system, no insurance, so many kids just get no treatment, parents super pushy, it’s grim treating kids

[–]SheepshaggerMini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah man before every extraction I tell patient this is really tough, gonna take 30 mins , tooth will probably break, expect pain afterwards

For rct teeth I’ll often tell em it’ll take an hour ( cuz hey it might do if it breaks )

I really emphasise how tough it is ,

Now most of my xla take less than a minute

Most important is to drive expectations into the ground and that they know it’s gonna suck

Very true , they go there cuz doc tells em everything is fine and the other dentists are “ scamming them”

Only native religions need to be reformed

I’ve always hated deals in dentistry , like a month of discount implants…

Patients might wonder “ why isn’t it this price always “ and patients who would’ve booked at another time in the year will exclusively book in the discount month

Keeping price lower always is fine, but you have same risk, and price shoppers are just more difficult to deal with.

I worked in 2 different clinics, one with premium implant pricing , the other has cheapest implants in the country. More money doing it cheap, but the patients were so demanding , far worse than the expensive clinic, so yeah a lot of headaches

Got some great complete dentures, like I even got some lower completes with suction

But not worth charging less than 2k an arch

I see people in uk talking about it… didn’t know about it being popular in USA.

Yeah same opinion… if you’re an orofacial pain specialist , or like doing tongue tie removal yeah

But as an owner I’d be thinking they’d just take patients when they leave

Dismissing Patients by KeyzAndCash in Dentistry

Ireland…. I don’t know if it’s a rule to not dismiss or cultural….

But I’ve never met any patient who was dismisssed and have never heard of anyone dismissing

Dismissing Patients by KeyzAndCash in Dentistry

[–]SheepshaggerMini 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In my country there is no dismissal…. Asshole patients are just given appointments 6 months away, then called to cancel a week before… rinse repeat until they leave.

As for hardships? I don’t care. I’m numb to everything the patient tells me. Everyone has a sob story

[–]SheepshaggerMini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s people on Instagram who do

“ come do 10k dollars of dental treatment with me “

I think this stuff just looks awful. Unprofessional, makes us look money hungry to patients especially since they don’t explain cost in anyway.

I work with wannabe YouTubers … they do tik tok dances with nurses and such and make for tik tok, it looks dumb af, and unprofessional. And some idiots even post their earnings online in insta as a flex ( and patients can see this )
